USA Tour in a Cessna - The Finale.

See the USA... in a Cessna! In this, the 4th and final episode, you'll see a diversion from Louisiana to Omaha, NE, and the return legs through Denver Centennial and Albuquerque, NM.
In August of 2014, I embarked on a 6,000-mile, 20-States-in-39-days tour of the Midwest & Southeast in a Cessna Skylane. There were visits with old friends, return trips to cities & airports I used to live in and fly out of decades ago, and 5 NASCAR races on successive weekends. This is the finale - Part 4 - of the series. I recorded approaches & landings at each airport with a GoPro camera and edited each video entirely on an iPad, primarily as an archive for myself, but am posting them on KZbin for those interested in any of these destinations, or cross-country flying in general...enjoy! Fun series, and loved the witty commentary. Still chuckling over the "Bride over the River Kwai" and "Yeah, refuel and keep going to Denver..." comments. I've only accumulated a few hours in a C172 (too tall to squeeze my knees under the yoke of a C152) and don't yet have a PPL. Life and finances keep getting in the way. I love General Aviation and have no aspirations of becoming an airliner driver or anything like that. Videos like yours are an inspiration for me to keep my spirits up and not only eventually get licensed, but to have the means and time to regularly keep flying long after.

Great video! A few to many landings in 1 video though for my taste... Thing I noticed the most; is that you put both hands on the yoke during the flare, I see that 182 has electric trim I have always run the trim during the round out to aid in the flare, I never take my hand off the throttle in the round out. If I get wind shear or downdrafts I am ready to bring the power in! Another thing I noticed is you don't identify then verify flaps. I fly a lot of different airplane some retractable some not, the day I forget to verify I have flaps my luck would be it'd be gear. Especially in some of the older Bonanzas. If you are instructing many commercial applicants to become professional pilots that's a big thing when they get checkout at some ops. Why'd you open the cowl flaps on short final into ABQ?

JustWingIt Aviation Yeah, you want to flare those airplanes with heavy engines out front with both hands for better control - Google: *Cessna 182 bent firewall* As Rod Machado says, "how long does it take to move your right hand back to the throttle if you need to go around; 1/2-second?" If you need to "identify" the flaps, then go for it... Flaps are _always_ to the right of the pedestal or throttle control, gear control is _always_ to the left of the pedestal (_that's_ in the type certification; FAR 23.777f/g). You open the cowl flaps to cool the turbo-charger... after landing, during taxi, there's not nearly as much air circulating through the engine compartment as there is when the airplane is flying:)

19 different airports; about 55-hours on the Hobbs... My true airspeed was between 133-140-kts. (depending on altitude). I calculated that by chopping power/airspeed by 10%, I would save 17% in fuel consumption. With no real hurry to get anywhere fast, that's pretty much what I did the whole trip (except for weather).

Frederick Walker The VASI or PAPI lights to the left of the runway; they tell you whether you are above / below / or on the glidepath (generally 3° descent) to take you to the runway....

Michael Husken Yes; its a cannula. The standard issue Cessna oxygen mask (with microphone embedded) is not very comfortable and sounds like Apollo 11 over the radio.
