Superheavyweights Alexander Miroshnicheko and Vladislav Yakovlev were some of the best on the scene in 1986. Miroshnicheko became the 1988 Olympic Bronze medalist while Yakovlev was the Bronze medalist at the 1986 World Amateur Championships. I saw Yakovlev outbox some member of an American team in late 1986 in Richmond, Virginia and while dull, he was very effective with his left jab.

Watching the Watson/Miroshnicheko fight (heavyweight) and it really seems like Watson had never been hit that hard, and got scared. He got tagged with a lead hook that stopped him dead in his tracks before the first, dramatic knockdown. After that he was afraid of the punch and over committing to feints, which let the Soviet fighter land it again. That is a hell of a lead hook, I must say.

19:05 Damn he wanted to counter him with a lead hand overhand over the top of the incoming cross of the opponent, he blocked the jab by covering up, and then when he expected that rear hand following he dropped the over hand with the lead, that's a great way to counter efficiently.

Яковлев. Готовый атлет. Член сборной СССР. Что он здесь показал. Ровным счётом ничего. Нет ударов боковых, ни одного не сделал. При таком весе нет удара. Апперкот ни разу.. А удар печень голова, печень тоже нет и не была. Он там в США, просто обязан был размазать его... А у него, типичный. Раз и раз два. Больше ничего. Плюс дыхалки хватила...
