Well you can't really compare Charlie to Rachel. I still don't get why lots of people don't like these two together. I mean, yes, maybe this would've be better if this happened before, but there was chemistry. Joey had a huge crush on her that went developing more than sexual attraction and he really looked into her and guilty because of Ross. Maybe Rachel's crush on him was no that great and seemed false. But the fact that they did try it's because somehow there was something between them. And, yes, she's meant with Ross and all, but the also look cute together. In think the fact that they didn't work out is because the writers notice that if he started to settle down at some point the essence of the character would've died. It's not a good relationship, Ross is controlling and Rachel didn't care about his career while he looked down on any of hers ("just a waitress", "Jurassic Parka"), but people were used to storylines of "the one" and "underdog nerd's dream of getting with cheerleader comes true" in the 90s, so that's what we got. Despite the backlash, Joey and Rachel seem more natural, their passions of acting and fashion overlapping and personalities clashing way less, they both seem to value how they look and display raw emotions a lot. It just feels smoother and easier for them to communicate. The only stop could be Joey's player lifestyle, but he seems to have it canned for Rachel and has fallen for real her. Even if they don't work out, he values his friendships more than anything, so I bet he'd remain supportive of her, unlike Ross who throws hissy fits every time he can't have her even when they're not dating.

the thing i love about this relationship is its kinda similar to monica and chandler in the way that he is a very immature kinda childish joking around character and you dont really see much of a romantic emotional response from him, i mean we do see joey have a couple serious relationships and crushes but they never last more than a couple episodes. what i like about this is he is really in love with rachel and we get to see him in this new light where he is in a lot of pain over his crush which develops to love, and not only tat but he is brave enough to admit he is in love with her to himself and to rachel, something i would never have seen coming when you look back on the growth of his character. not only that but i feel his pain as he agonises over what to do about his feelings and he cares so much about all of his friendships that he would risk being with the person he loves just to keep everyone else happy. i will say i didnt like the idea of rachel and joey on paper but seeing them together i really do melt at watching their little plot, dont get me wrong i love ross and rachel but i really took to joey and rachel, and i would have loved to see their relationship last a little longer especially since we go ache over joey's feelings for a number of episodes.

Joey and Rachel's relationship was WAAAY healthier than Ross and Rachel's. They brought out the best out of each other. Joey was the best man Rachel ever dated, he cared for her more than anyone else. He loved her when she was pregnant!!! Too bad the writers decided to end this relationship right away. I also read somewhere that the creators wanted this Joey-Rachel arc to show us that sometimes we fall in love with our best friends even though it is wrong. I am not quite sure if that was what they exactly said, but that's pretty much the thought. Lol! Ross-Rachel's relationship was a lot more popular because of its ups and downs, even though it is very toxic, that's why they were end game. But hey, it is for TV. And they only gave what fans wanted to see on TV. I just feel bad for Joey, you know. He was the sweetest character and he deserved soooo much better. That's why I wished it was Phoebe and Joey who had feelings for each other, and not Rachel.
