New subscriber here! I seriously considered going into the AF after college as I wanted to fly and I love going fast. It didn't happen for me, but in my family (including my aunt's/uncles and my cousins) we have every branch of the military represented. My 93yo grandfather, who is like a father to me as he helped raise me, is an Army Air Corps veteran. He's just finished cancer treatment (for the 2nd time) and still looks 15 years younger than he is (good genes on that side of the family lol). My uncle served 30 years in the Coast Guard doing some interesting work up and down the West Coast. I think he would have stayed longer if he hadn't needed to come back on shore to raise three boys as a single dad. I'll save the rest of my family story, except to say that I am incredibly proud of my family and I am beyond grateful to all those who have served. I hope everyone has a very happy, safe and healthy Christmas and for those celebrating the Festival of Lights, Happy Hanukkah!

I had the pleasure to work on the F- 16 in Korea, I retired back in 1995 as a crew chief. It makes me proud to hear you talk with respect about Crew dogs like you do. I once had a flt in a T-38 while stationed at RAFB ,Tx . One thing I remembered I was one of the few that didn’t get a g-suit that day (during Christmas break) I was totally exhausted for two days. Your a (humble) fighter pilot who takes the time to help people who one day may follow your boots. Thank you Sir for sharing!!!

Patch up! Colorado here. I went to Utah for work and didn't realize there was an airbase there till I was in the portopotty and heard an f-35 or two burn through the air mid stream 😊, then as I was leaving i ended up on the end of the strip and had a big bird swoosh over the tractor trailer I was driving. Totally awesome! My father was copilot for the OH-58D i always wanted to get into flying. My favorite is the A-10. While we live in Kentucky we would hear jets sonic boom every now and again. Thank you doing what y'all do, you and your whole team.

I am a progressive and I will always, always support the members of our military. I have too many GLBT friends in the military (and the police for that matter) that deserve American's support, and I stand with them. The police may need reform, but they do a super hard job cleaning up for American gov (state and fed) policy and most are decent folks doing the best they can. Back in the 80s I was an Aeroscout on OH-6a. I carried hard candy and gum in the spaces that fit them in the survival vest. Some guys called me the "Candyman" but they were always begging something off me. I flew with Nam vets and they always had baby bottles of water, remember this was before Camelbacks and the waterbottles we see everywhere. I carried 2 of them myself. They didn't hold more than 10-12 ounces but they tucked anywhere.

@@projectgoatse Actually, he is. While you are correct that fighter pilots also put in a helluva lot of work, the fact is that you have to win a number of lotteries just to get there. Top 10% of humans physically. Top 10% of humans mentally. Do well in school.* Do well in school. (Part 2)* Do well on the ASVAB.* Actually getting a slot in jet training. *granted, you have SOME control over how well you do in school, but there are a number of other factors that can play havoc on your scholastic performance. Home life, school funding, good teachers, and so on. Did this man work hard to get where he got? Undoubtedly. Absolutely. He worked his ass off to get there. But he ALSO got lucky, because his circumstances lined up in such a way as to not hinder him overmuch.

To solve the issue of the “lost water bottle cap” I suggest you use a Gatorade bottle with a sports cap. When used you just twist the top to open position. The cap does not come off the bottle but fluid is allowed to flow. Problem solved. Also if you chose to you can freeze the fluid so there is less chance of “hot” drink, pressure changes within the bottle, blow ups within your helmet bag, and similarly related issues. These bottles hold 750 ml and the mouth is large enough to facilitate filling with ice allowing “ meltdown” during the mission. I fill with water and add a electrolyte supplement or “flavor enhancer” for some variety. Also I put cable ties around the neck and attached a “snap bolt/clip” to secure it & prevent the bottle from places I don’t want it to go. I fly with CAP and find this has served me well on air or ground missions. I think this could be useful in your environment. I have photos of my setup but don’t know how to attach to this message. If you provide a portal to send to you I’d be happy to send for your evaluation. Fly,Fight,Win. POPS.

yes, i'm thinking the same, it prevents big spill too in case of sudden turbulence.. but the downside is, the water flow is a bit low, so you need more time to drink, but no time wasted to screw unscrew the caps.. so i think it's better..

I don't know if this sounds dumb, but do you ever marvel at flying an F-35? I mean like, when i was a kid i read about the F-22, about how futuristic it was and was always at awe and felt that it would take a long time before I would see it in service. And now we have the F-35. Like, I can't belive I'm seeing it flying. It's just so incredible. I'm 30 years I'll be telling my kids stories about it, just like my father and grandfather told me about the F-4 and such.

You can connect the cap to the bottle with electrical tape and cheap paracord, that way you get a cap that is connected to the bottle amd still keep the cheap and replaceable aspect of it

Gotta get yourself a pop top for that water bottle. You cab get a reusable one online and wash it as you switch bottles. A lot of backpackers are using those bottles for their light weight and stick on a reusable top for ease. Thanks for the fun insight!

Hmmm, in a car, on a bicycle etc we use "sports" bottles of water - the cap always stays on, so you can drink while focusing on the road and always keeping one hand on controls. Also good for picking, giving to kids etc. Various brands use variations of such caps, some even have sort of a valve in them to prevent spilling, but they can be annoying sometimes, so one needs to find what's the best for you specifically. I'm sure there are similar designs in US too.

i think to be a fighter pilot, it's more to physical prowess, they need to be really fit to handle that gforce.. no short of breath, no high blood pressure, no glasses, no teeth problem.. while for the technical of flying, it can be learned, but of course, it's not for the lazy person at school, as they need to learn many things from the aircraft systems like radar, navigation, weapon system, etc..

On the farm, the room in some farm equipment cabs isn't that spacious and hard to find that dropped cap so I found a drink bottle that had a pull up to open lid and it has worked great for years. Wash, rinse, repeat. When I sorted mail at the post office by hand years ago at 2 am, Butterfingers were great for energy, but would not be good in your cockpit (Crumbs). New butterfingers suck. enjoyed your video

Did you ever think of hot glueing a string just long enough to the bottle so you can unscrew it not being condescending just trying to help maybe even some strong fishing line so it’s light you get a ton of it if you lose the bottle you can just cut another length of it

I bet the 3% dehydration to G-tolerance is a good lesson for people planning on boat trips: Drinking alcohol (a diuretic) the night before a boat cruise will reduce your tolerance to the movement of the boat.

Hey Hasard! I have a question regarding the HOTAS in the aircraft. I fly DCS so I know a little bit about the F-16 HOTAS. I really like how streamlined everything is in the cockpit. I've noticed the F-35 has a much more complex HOTAS. How does it differ from the F-16's and do you prefer it? I'm sure you get used to it after flying for any amount of time, but I really like the F-16's design a lot.

Hey brother just a suggestion but why not bring one with nozzle and cover. Eliminates most of the risk in having a cap
