this competition is a perfect example of why the american gymnasts need to compete more in international world cups. there were so many falls and numerous injuries, and i think the main reason why is a lack of competing throughout the year. also, does anyone know why they stopped holding the american cup in february since 2020? that was a good competition to get the american gymnasts back on the international stage early in the year.
@aliciamcdonald71058 ай бұрын
I do agree that American gymnasts overall should attend more international eventa but I don't see anyone who is hoping to make the AMERICAN WOMEN's TEAM for a Wchampionship or Olympic (World cups are held so gymnasts can qualify themselves a spot) would ever take that risk of possibly injuring themselves. Besides which, no World Cup could ever prepare you for the nerves that you will get in a competition such as this that is geared to helping you make THIS team.
@BenThompson8 ай бұрын
Couldn’t agree more ! I think the new selection committee + Chellsie are still finding their footing, I guarantee they’re taking the same notes as us but more in depth I miss American cup sm I bet they’re gonna prioritize full difficulty during a season for consistency, and once again start sending our A team to more international competitions in the years to come after this quad 🙌🏼 (and hopefully bring ac back)
@hansel86598 ай бұрын
USAG doesn’t want to send gymnasts to international competition besides the major ones (pan ams, worlds, olympics) because they don’t profit much from it. At the end of the day, it’s those gymnast who attracts the public viewers and private sponsorships that gets to be on the international stage. USAG wants to be as selective as they can when it comes to producing major stars. It is obvious, just look at these gymnasts social media followings-the ones with over 1 mill are the stars.

Jade’s leotard is so so pretty and looks very nice on her. Love her floor routine. She is now displaying some real body movements to her music. I sure hope she makes it to the Olympics in Paris. College gymnastics has certainly helped her loosen up. Very good Jade. I’m rooting for you. We really need some of these senior elites who are really great at uneven bars and beam. Of course Simone qualifies for beam. Skye, Wong are also pretty good but I worry because this will be the Olympics which is the highest competition to compete in. Shilese is really pretty and elegant and also is great on beam but someone needs to inform her coach that that hanging halfway on the beam has been banned. The commentator always points that out so she will get a penalty for performing a banned skill and she needs eight skills and when she does that banned skill, she’ll lose more 10ths because they will treat it as an undone skill. Also for Shilese, that cowboy leg dismount from uneven bars will cost her at a minimum 3 10ths. I am glad she changed her floor routine because she as well as other gymnasts put their faces on the floor and beam. That’s banned and will cost at a minimum 3 10ths, if not 5. It’s banned! Come on now, they walk on the dirty floor barefooted and the coaches, photographers, etc walk around with dirty shoes so why put your face on something knowing that filthy shoes and dirty feet have been there. I don’t think the coaches are aware of those bans but they need to. Keep your face off of the floor and beam and keep your legs together on your dismount from bars or you will lose quite a few 10ths. Doesn’t matter, whoever the commentator is, always says it but they aren’t listening. Otherwise, Shilese’s bar routine is really great but she has to put those legs together or do a different dismount. I hope she does well at Trials. I haven’t figured out yet who should be chosen to compete at the Olympics. Jocelyn is certainly not ready. She’s good but she really needs more training. Her numbers are quite low and she’s inexperienced. Right now Simone and Jade. I love Suni who I know is in remission but you can tell after every apparatus she is suffering from flank pain. Kidneys are nothing to play with and her parents should be ashamed of themselves and all her coach sees is a medal, not a child who is not well. I am 67 and there is no way I would allow any of my children or grandchildren to participate in a sport with kidney disease. She’s going to end up on dialysis or needing a kidney transplant. I have a sister with kidney disease and she said that pain is no joke. So I hope for that reason that she isn’t chosen to go to the Olympics. She can end up causing the team to lose, so no. Sorry for the long comment.

Assuming no imjuries and Sunisa doesnt get injured, the Team is set. You build around Biles and Jones. Carey easily is the #3 on Vault and Floor. Sunisa would do bars for sure. The 5th gymnast should be a beam specialist who can also cover Sunis bars if something happens. Carey is already a good enough All-Arounder that she too could be put in on bars or beam as a worst case scenario. Vault: Jones, Carey, Biles Bars: Biles, Lee, Jones Beam: Biles, Jones, Blakely Floor: Carey, Jones, Biles.
@jesb39737 ай бұрын
I wouldn't take Blakely. Her scoring potential is through the roof, but she's fallen too many times in the high pressure situations. I'd rather take someone who has a potential .4 lower but hits consistently. Even at this meet without a fall she placed 6th on beam. Suni won beam. If the team was picked right after this meet I'd take Jordan instead. As we saw in Tokyo she can be popped in anywhere and put up a good score. Each event already has 2 finals potentials, and a solid podium potential, why not take a 3rd all around gymnast for security?

usually an injury would spread like wildfire on the gym floor and social media, and it could be a rotator cuff since she made the exact same mistake in warmups, but i think it's more to do with timing and not being at the right angle /position at the right time since she still requires heavy spotting/bumping in practice. we still haven't seen gabby do a full bar routine on her own during this comeback and when you're not getting that extra bump on every skill you don't know your own timing/position/body when you're doing your skills.

Something is wrong with those bars! That many falls is not a coincidence.

It's reminding me of the Sydney 2000 scandal, but obviously this isn't as bad. I mean we saw falls from Kayla, Skye, Gabby, even Jade! Quite ironic how Joscelyn actually hit a great bar routine despite being "known" for falls

Anyone else less interested in watching coverage now that Tim is gone? I know he can be annoying, but his commentary felt like home to me.

Trinity is a beautiful athlete. Hope she shakes her poor beam performance. And that she does it better in the next comp.

So glad to see her back! Hopefully she builds her confidence up. Literally like my favorite gymnast!

Can anyone tell me when do we find out the team for Paris?
@rosee70118 ай бұрын
June 30th is when the Olympic team trials wrap up, so that's the earliest they could announce the team, but it probably wont be finalized until "team camp" right before they leave for Paris.

It really makes you question the motives of someone who just quits after 1 event because they didn't do well. gabby had nothing to lose by continuing with the competition.. just giving up doesn't help her cause at all..

My guess? She was expecting falls on beam/floor as well and knew she wouldn’t have been able to get an average of 13.633 on the remaining three events to get 51.000+ so she decided to withdraw. In this case I don’t even expect her to appear on nationals.

My guess is she wanted to qualify for the AA. But she can't because there is no way she could have got to 51. And they said she can't patition for the AA. So... If she will go to nationals Or even Olympic trials she can't compete AA. And there is no way they are taking her to the Olympics without bars... 🤷
@leykimayri8 ай бұрын
@@aboutnol I replied, she could have gotten to 51.000+. She needed an average of 13.633 points. A well prepared athlete with a 5.0 vault, a 6.0 D score beam and 6.0 floor could have easily gotten a 51.000+. With a 9 execution on vault and 8 execution of floor and beam she would have had a total of 52.100 total If she’s invited to the Olympic trials she will be able to compete AA. It’s the nationals that she can’t. However, no way they will invite to trials an inconsistent gymnast with multiple falls and who’s already also withdrawn instead of any other, ready, gymnast. It’s over for her, she can try next year for Worlds 2025

@@leykimayri ohhhh I thought she couldn't got do the AA at the Olympics trials. So she had a chance more than I knew.. But now.. I don't know.. Because she left the competition 😒
