This meet was one of those signs that Jordyn's reign was soon to end. Only beating Gabby fractionally after a fall. Which is a full point off her score. And of course the american cup earlier when Gabby beat both Aly and Jordyn without formally being part of the competition.
@chrissyjoy0810 жыл бұрын
I agree...Jordyn really wasn't scoring higher than Gabby, it was just that at times Gabby didn't hit. When Gabby hits (which was, of course the question) she was the higher scorer, so that really shouldn't have been a surprise to have Gabby over Jordyn if Gabby was doing well, which she'd been improving on controlling her nerves. Aly over Jordyn shouldn't have been a huge surprise, either. They both have the Amanar vault, neither of their bars aren't great (though Jordyn is perhaps better there), their beam routines are both very good (I don't recall their D-scores and typical E scores), and Aly had the much higher D-score on floor. So Jordyn missing out on AA wasn't a huge shock to me. Still devastating for Jordyn and I felt bad for her, but I wasn't really shocked.
@sox475510 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree with you more! We should totally watch gymnastics together. I was slower on the uptake with Aly i guess because NBC had hyped Jordyn so much. After qualification day at Olympics i thought it through and saw that it was always going to be very close between these two cause essentially they are the same gymnast with similar strengths and weaknesses. Aly had been steadily increasing in the shadows whereas Jordyn was in the same state as last worlds
@SheaNDamon182910 жыл бұрын
Also, if they had scored Jordyn's beam appropriately, Gabby would have been the national champion. They were giving Jordyn connection bonuses that shouldn't have been awarded. Unfortunately, it hurt Jordyn more than it helped her. I'm sure she would have changed her routine before the Olympics if those connection hadn't been awarded all along.

I believe the "plan" they were referring to was his plan for 2008, to maximize her start value on the uneven bars, fine tune her floor and vault and uneven bars dismounts according to her injuries and strengths at that time. The plan for 2012 seems to have just been "start training again at the last minute on the same plan, not accounting for any of the changes since."

I will never understand how Valeri Liukin is considered such a good coach. 1. In 2007 Nastia was nowhere near ready to be vaulting. And to be having her do a triple twist dismount in beam. 2. Rebecca Bross had no business doing a double Arabian off the beam. And in 2011 she should not have been doing vault like she was. 3. Keeping that bean dismount for Bross while Nastia was competing for the same spot...sketchy.

Also Katelyn Ohashi. He always seemed super cold and mean to his gymnasts compared to the other coaches (Chow and Aly/Alicia's Coach). I think the only reason Nastia did somewhat well was because she was his daughter so maybe he wasn't as emotionally abusive to her as his other gymnasts.

I agree, he is completely awful coach all round. He always seems cold, distant and not encouraging with his gymnasts. Bross was clearly not ready on the level of everyone else and she shouldn’t been there, let alone do such a difficult dismount which she obviously can’t land. @@veronikas.8831 Even if she wants to do it, as her coach, he definitely could have pressed to her that she wasn't ready. 34:38 And Tim said it about Jordan's beam start value. This was wear Jordan was doomed for failure at the Olympics. Her new beam routine was based on connections that she could never execute and the domestic meets were giving her credit for some of them when they shouldn't have. Because then she went to the Olympics, wasn't getting credit for these connections, and went into Olympic qualifying and suddenly she gets a much lower start value than she was uses to. Yes, that wasn't her only fault in qualifying. She had a subpar vault and an out of bounds on floor. But beam really cost her in London.

Hey now... I have ridden some of my BEST scoring dressage tests after memorizing the (correct!) Test just moments before hopping on& trotting to warm up, or being super late to show jumping because they changed the schedule- waving my arm around to catch the officials attention like, "YESSS! IM NUMBER 364!!! I DIDNT SCRATCH IM HERE!!!! LET ME DO ONE CIRCLE/JUMP ONE JUMP/WATCH JUST 1 RIDER JUMP THE COURSE & ILL BE GOOD TO GOOOOO!" *please, horse show gods, let this be more than just wishful thinking* & it almost makes u have to focus so much more on WHAT you actually have to DO- rather than having it soooo OVER memorized & practiced that you're not thinking about it anymore- doing THAT almost allows you more room to develop so many more nerves & to overthink things... I see some of these girls perform the same routines competition after competition, year after year, and they mess up "silly things/some of the easiest parts of their routines/moves they've performed a million times!" whereas sometimes if it's a NEWER routine that they're just learning, they almost seem to have better focus on the moves & have less room mentally for nerves... Maybe it's totally different sports- but I bet there's some similarities in there mentally when it comes to OVER practicing some things! (Not to say learning a routine like this a week & a half before performing it is the BEST idea either? But, I think there's definitely some validation in changing things up& not over preparing!)

I had never had the wind knocked out of me before that- but damn. I laid there on my back, arms pinwheeling around, trying to sit up& gasping for air, probably looking like a total idiot- I had NO CLUE what was happening!?! Having the wind knocked out of you is so friggin SCARY! My horse actually ended up being totally fine, and once I got my breath back, someone helped me back on & I still rode & actually had a clear xc round & won my division at the show- but I didn't find out until I finally went to the Dr almost a week later because it was still hurting to breathe- that I had also broken 2 ribs. (And I kept RIDING, but, hey, it got me out of PE in school for a month, YESSS!!!) but now in my late 20s, I've had a number of concussions- mostly pretty minor- I've been kicked& shattered my shoulder, kneed by my old horse in the face& broke my orbital socket, jaw& 4 teeth (it's been almost 5 years & I'm STILL dealing with my cracked teeth needing to be pulled& getting implants put in soon! Ack!) But man- I REALLY, REAAAALLLLLY feel for these girls when they land badly & you can tell they hurt their ankles or knees!! I've severely sprained 1 ankle twice the other 3x, once I sprained both at the same time- and when I was 19 I fell when schooling my youngest horse on cross country & I broke my nose (for about the 4th time lol) and completely snapped/severed my PCL in my left knee- which is a pretty unusual, difficult injury to even incur- but I swear I still remember & feel it going POP every time I hear them talk about one of these poor girls having a knee injury, or feel my cartilage & scar tissue ripping, tearing & crackling in my own ankles any time any of these girls look like they so much as ROLL theirs! Aly hated bars. She just wanted to get through it. It wasn’t easy for her. I love her too!
@saragrant9749 Жыл бұрын
Not everyone is extremely strong on bars, just like not everyone is a beam queen. Aly actually had the best set I ever saw her have during Rio qualifying… not AA finals obviously but that didn’t end up mattering. Her form wasn’t good but it was just enough.
@SheaNDamon182910 жыл бұрын
@rjt93 Did you see Bross' uneven bars performance at Olympic Trials? No way in hell she was going to make the team after that. Her beam was no where near good enough either. Even if she had hit uneven bars at trials, Marta would never pick a one-event gymnast for a five-person team over an all-arounder. Raisman was a lock for the team.

She unfortunately refused to switch to something she could consistently stick. She admitted later that it was her choice to keep it. I still feel that, even without the knee injury she wouldn’t have made the team. Too many others were more consistent, more reliable by then.
