Sprinter Usain Bolt, who triumphed in the men's 200m at 2015 IAAF World Championships, received a gift on Friday from the Chinese cameramen who accidentally crashed into the runner following Thursday's race in Beijing.
Bolt was knocked over by the cameraman on an electric scooter when he was celebrating completing the World Championship sprint double on Thursday evening.
“I was following Bolt and staring at the camera lens' viewfinder. So I didn’t notice there was a track there for another camera. The self-balancing scooter lost balance and turned over after its left wheel rolled on the track. The first thing I saw first was that the scooter hit Bolt,” recalled Song Tao, the cameraman.
Song sent a red bracelet, a good-luck charm, to Bolt and placed it on the champion’s wrist by way of apology after the award ceremony on Friday night.
The world champion said at a news briefing afterwards that he was not hurt in the bizarre accident, even making a joke out of it.
“He said sorry as much as he could. But I checked to make sure if he was okay because I think he got the worst of it because he was off-balance falling backwards. I'm not sure if he hit his head but I'm just happy that he's okay. I'm fine so it's all fun,” he said.
“The rumor I'm trying to start right now is that Justin Gatlin paid him off, so that's what I'm going with. But I'm all right so it's all good."
Song returned to work at the championships on Friday, saying he was also uninjured.
“My first thought was that, no matter what, please do not let Bolt be injured due to this. I was worried and did not feel relieved until the news briefing was over, when he said he was alright,”Song said.
Some Internet users joked that the cameraman was the only man capable of taking down Bolt, who has won all but one world and Olympic individual sprint titles since 2008.

For all those who criticize the camera man for his actions - take a lesson from Bolt. Recognize the situation for what it is, accept the apology, show genuine concern for person's well-being and move on. That is how to be a man of character. The big man has a big heart everyone can learn from.

j jc Who "criticized" the cameraman for his "actions"?? Lmaoo.. It was an accident lol.. I haven't seen a single person "criticize" him. Most people have either been talking about how graceful and understanding Bolt was, or they've been laughing at the situation in good fun. No one, however, has been "critical" of the cameraman. I feel like you just wanted to sound self righteous and portray yourself as some form of moral authority lol. Everyone is already showing that they have compassion, character, and a big heart in regards to this situation. Literally everyone is already doing exactly that. So there was no need for you to make it seem like we're all a bunch of asshole's who enjoy criticizing him just so you can portray yourself as some righteous person. If you wanna make yourself feel self righteous and morally above everyone else then go donate to charity or something. But don't try to take a situation where people have been mostly positive and deceptively twist it into something negative just to make yourself seem morally superior.

I remember when I first saw Bolt, he appeared to be a loud, arrogant, self absorbed, show off. I really didn’t like him. But slowly, I realized that he was being true to himself and that he is actually made of the right stuff. A super competitive athlete but one who is also very very in touch with who he is. What I had been socialized to view as arrogance was just him being who he is comfortable being. The way he defended Gatlin in an interview, the way he celebrates other athletes when they do well is a testament to his character.
