Milky Way bars were introduced by Frank Mars in the US in 1924. Nearly a decade later, Forrest Mars opened a factory in Slough, England and produced the Mars bar, a reformulation of the Milky Way using the more readily available Cadbury's chocolate rather than the American Hershey's chocolate. An American version of the Mars bar was produced later including toasted almonds in the nougat. There is also a UK/Worldwide version of Milky Way which is essentially the same as a US Three Musketeers.

Now, on the topic of washing a kilt. This is the way my Grandmother Brown hand washed a kilt. She would do it in the wash basin in the laundry room, but it was only used to wash cloths in. ;) This. woman grew up in a day when there was no other way to do it. She would lay out the kilt on the laundry table, smooth the pleats, then place a single stitch about 3 to 4 inches up from the bottom edge and not on or over the pleat fold to hold the pleat in place, exactly. All the way through, in white thread, leaving the tails on the knot on the outside so you can see them. She would wash it in warm water, etc. Basically everything Rocky said here including the towel trick to get the water out. Then she would lay it back out on the laundry table and just pass her hand over the pleats quickly, and they fell right back into place and stayed there. She said, "It illuminates, lessens, the chances that an accident could mess it up and it held it's shape better through the entire washing, rinsing, drying and pressing process. Especially the pressing." When she was done she would pull the tail of the thread and snip below the knot one side of the stitch. I think she might have even placed them in storage with the stitches still in the kilt, AND she kept them "long term" layered flat in a cedar chest with the day plaids! Never on a hanger, she said. I was 5 years old. What else was I supposed to do while she was baby sitting me? She didn't trust me in the rest of the house alone, so I got to be her shadow. Just say'in ps: Not sure what is more messed up. The fact that she didn't trust me, or that I remembered this shit.

With a great Kilt after you wash it depending on the time of the year would it be okay to just hanging out on a clothesline like you would do with a blanket
@jhohlkennedy

I do that. Usually, I simply pay a local dry cleaner to dry clean the belted plaid (just a stretch of wool 4 yards by 58 inches). Sometimes, I wash it in the bathtub with baby shampoo. Then I have hung it on the line but I try to use a few lines to distribute the weight. I then switch it around frequently so no one area has a permanent crease-line.

What is the light blue jacket in the background? Is there any significance to the number of tassels on the sporran? Thanks! Great videos. I appreciate you listing the times for the various questions in the description too.

They said in another video that sporrans usedto be more like a coin pouch that you'd pull a string to close it, so you'd have the ends (tassled like the end of ghillie brogue laces) hanging down. When that stopped they put three tassles instead to mimic the traditional appearance. Otherwise it's just decoration if I remember correctly.

Hi chaps. Wondering about belt choice for casual kilting. I’m not that keen on vast buckles so what leather belts will fit the bill?
@Lockpickingblacksmith
@Lockpickingblacksmith 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you got an answer yet. When it comes to USA Kilts kiits, they have two sets of belt loops, one for a kilt belt, the other for a standard 1-1.5 belt. I used a standard belt for a few years and it was fine. Aside from that, go on Amazon and look at buckles for 2 1/4 kilt belts, find the smallest least noticeable buckle. That being said, the buckles USA Kilts sells (to me), don't have that 70's 'I'm wearing a giant medallion and a giant belt buckle to overcompensate' kind of look.

If I got a kilt one size smaller in the waist so that the buckles were fit in the middle hole would that be wrong
@USAKiltsOfficial
@USAKiltsOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
Depends on who you get your kilt from. Ours are custom made to the customer's measurements, so "size' doesn't really equate. We do sometimes have folks ask for a tighter waist than their actual measurement - usually because they are on a weight loss program, but you have to be careful.

Could you wear a brooch as a kilt pin
@USAKiltsOfficial
@USAKiltsOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
Most brooches are too large for that, but there's plenty of precedent for alternative kilt pins. Anything about the right size can theoretically be used - lots of guys use military or service badges, or collar dogs, or a personal memento of some sort.

They do make them but I don't know anyone who ever actually ate one. Haggis supper is great though, or a pizza crunch that is a perfect example of Scottish excess and it's amazing.

So you guys know Doesn't the provisions of Title 10, U.S. Code prohibit the wearing of military uniform items with civilian clothing such as kilts? No, that question contains two popular misconceptions. First, the provisions of Title 10, Sections 771, only prohibit the wearing of the uniform or a distinctive part of the uniform, of the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps, or of a uniform any part of which is similar to a distinctive part of such uniforms, by any person who is not a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps. Although it prohibits the wearing of the uniform or articles of uniform by civilians, it says nothing about the wearing of civilian clothing with the uniform. That misconception arose during the 1960's and 1970's when that law was used to prohibit the wearing of uniform items by civilians who often combined wearing articles of uniform with civilian clothes. Second, a kilt, when worn as a prescribed part of a uniform, is not "civilian clothing." After all, an "article of uniform" is nothing more than an article of clothing of particular pattern, color or appearance which is prescribed to be worn as part of the official or distinctive clothes or outfit of a particular group, such as police, firefighters or members of a military organization, to identify them as members of that group or organization. Kilts, of a specified tartan, have been worn as part of the uniform by members of the Armed Forces of Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and other nations for hundreds of years. Kilts have also been regularly worn as part of U.S. military uniforms since the earliest days of the Republic. When prescribed as part of the uniform of a military organization, a kilt is no more an article of "civilian clothing" than a white dress shirt, tuxedo shirt, neck tie, pair of trousers or similar item which, when so prescribed and worn, become part of the uniform.

Rocky wears UNDERWEAR with his kilt? As I like to reply to either the inevitable comment or question I get every time I wear one of my kilts: "It's only a skirt if you wear underwear!" (I read that somewhere years back, so I can't take the credit). The term "Going Commando" actually originated as a reference to how the kilt was sported by Scottish military. (Google it for a little interesting Scottish history!)
@Lockpickingblacksmith
@Lockpickingblacksmith 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, not wearing underwear (going commando/regimental) is from Scots infantry not wearing them to moon the English and piss them off (as seen in Braveheart). So, if you're Scottish *and* in the military, then you might want to give 'going regimental' more thought. Otherwise do whichever is more comfortable for you.
