If you're in the car I would advise to lock the doors and stay there. A car is much more robust than you are. An attacker may cause some damage to the car, but you don't have to fear for your personal integrity.

most of the modern car doors are automatically unlocked when the car gear is shifted to "P". Bad guy can then open the car door from outside. This is the feature I don't like in modern day cars.
