Thanks for sharing this video! You've done a marvelous job; a lot of the KZbin's I've seen on this topic are not shot close enough for me to see what actually needs to be done, and therefore are virtually useless.

This is a proper DeJaVu right there... I literally figured the same setup and purchased the parts ~5min ago and was hoping my idea will work because I only saw it done with batteries that have a dedicated 9V DC outlet and now I see proof and you even apparently bought the same step-up cable I did! Hell yeah! Thanks for the vid!

I knew there had to be a way to do this. Gonna be mounting a battery pack on the smallrig G85 cage that I ordered based on your review. Thanks for saving me a bunch of time! EDIT - Finally used this solution just the other day, shooting a short film. Didn't have to switch batteries all day. Super liberating, thanks once again.

Thanks for the information! Just for your reference, when comparing batteries you need to compare Watt/Hours (W/H) not just milli Amp/Hours (mA/H). With this information, you will find the original battery it is rated at 8.7W/H. The power bank is a little more complicated, but usually the mA/H given for the power banks is for a single cell Voltage, so about 3.7V. This means that the 10,000 mA/H battery bank is 37W/H, so around 4.25 times bigger than the original battery. After all the conversion losses, I think you should be looking at around 3.5 - 4 times the original running time.

As an electrical engineer I do not recommend this method here is why! Your battery says it outputs 7.2v and obviously has also a certain allowable ripple of voltage that is designed for the camera. On the other hand you are feeding you camera with 9 volts with absolutely no way to know if the voltage ripple might or not damage your camera and I am not even counting the fact that 9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.
@JohnnyMotel99
@JohnnyMotel99 4 жыл бұрын
@@andrereis3896 '9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.' are you sure about this? Surely camera will just pull whatever current it needs? I'd be a lot more wary of over-voltage. My house wiring can handle up to 13amps, but if I plug in a 1kw fire, it's not pulling all 13amps.
@andrereis3896
@andrereis3896 4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyMotel99 V = R * I, in a câmera the R is mostly constant so yes more voltage is more current. In your home you are constantly changing the R but your V stays the same

There are kits on Amazon that up-convert the voltage from 5V to 7.5V. For my EOS-M I use one of those. People complain that they do not work but there is a trick to understand. The USB Battery Absolutely MUST put out 3 or more amps. This is the most confusing part so go to a local electronics store and ask if you are not sure. You need 3 AMPS out of a single USB A port. Sometimes they quote 4.8 amps but that is for two ports. The other way around is order the kits with 2 USB cable ends. Then a battery that says 4.8 amps.

I would say get an angled USB cable so it doesn't stick out back so much. One thing I worry about these hack was that if you accidentally swing your hand and unplugged the wires that will cut off the battery, and worry how stable the battery works like tells you when it will die before it just shuts off.
