Nah this video alone gave me the most confidence to purchase a Panasonic Lumix S5II out of all of the other videos I've been watching from the KZbinrs that went out to Tokyo and tested the camera. You truly spoke to me and many other Canon owners in this same predicament. I too am one that prefer native lenses and was thinking about getting a 15-35mm f/2.8 from Sigma (i I think Panasonic only has an f/4) but i may not have to now and instead will purchase the adapter. I always knew the EF mount was versatile but I didn't understand how until this video. You most definitely got a new subscriber out of me and thank you!

Interesting insight. I got into the Lumix S line with the S1, and went native. The 24-105 lens, and the 1.8 primes are just incredible, and offer very good image quality with very little fuss. I also have EF lenses that I adapted (70-300 IS II and 35 mm f/2 IS being my favourites). I ditched Canon after the original 7D and had gone MFT, enjoying the small setup. And now I'm back to the big and amazing Lumix Full Frame cameras. They are truly amazing devices :)

Yes they have always been amazing. The only issue was always the AF which now is out of the way. I think Lumix will take over video from Canon & Sony.

I somehow never owned a camera with Amazing AF AF, so I would just use single point AF and fine tune it by hand for movement, and then I have vintage glass which needs manual focus anyhow, so it wasn't really a 'game changer' for me in that sense, but I can imagine it being critical for many people :)

I’m late to this video but great content. I had been battling with the Canon R5 Overheating and Sony just hadn’t felt like the move for me. So when Jan 23 hit, I was really hoping this new Panasonic Cam was going to be what I was hoping for. I bought one in the first early weeks and surprisingly in made it to me in 4 days so I shot with it 😳. Fast track to today, I bought 3 S5ii with 1 MC-21 Adapter for Events but kept my Canon EOS R in the meantime (I guess for the same reason you were talking about 😂) I did buy the LUMIX L 24-105 & the 70-300 and you can take my word those lenses are Dope hands down.

Yeah, I got my S5ii in about a month ago. Love it so far. Especially the stabilization. I'm using my Tamron 15-30 Image stabilized f2.8 EF lens and it works perfectly. The lens IS with the cameras IS is super smooth. No corner wobbles either even at 15mm. I also use the Sigma 18-35 EF and it also works great. Some of those Lumix lenses do look very appealing especially because they are known to have no focus breathing at all but the price of older EF glass makes them too attractive for me.

@@FulaanCreative I feel you on the EF Glass, Ive acquired a few from shooting Photography with the EOS R. All work well the 16-35 f2.8 L, the 70-200 f2.8 L & the 85 f1.8 with the MC-21. I shoot multiple cam sets so I’m loving being able to keep my Canon Glass (especially with the APSC Mode it’s like getting 2 for 1). Focus is good and the Stabilization is second to none so far. It’s a good time to be in the game 😂🍾

The thing I love the most about Panasonic is their colours. Canon and Sony all have different log profiles which all look different but Panasonic only has V-log which looks awesome and it is the same for the EVA 1 and higher end Varicams. The dynamic range is awesome, same or more latitude than C70 and more than R5c.

Fotodiox already makes an EF to L mount adaptor with a built in variable ND filter (Vizelex ND Throttle Fusion Smart AF Lens Adapter). It works great on my S5, but I'm not sure how well it will work with the auto-focus on an S5II. I guess I'll find out as soon as the S5IIx is available.

Great information @FulaanCreative I own a Canon R5 and R6 II and I shoot through HDMI to a Ninja V with both. I noticed that Canon has done some cripple hammer stuff to the HDMI. I was shooting with the R6 Mark II without the display plus + Monitor mode on and messed me up by cutting off in the middle of a recording for no reason.

upgrading gear is a whole feature film lol.... i have a 7D Mrk II and still after almost 7 years with the camera is a nice hybrid and a big issue in regard of upgrade.... the s5 II X looks like perfect upgrade with the face detection helps a lot in solo projects and also can be rigged and became a monster. Using mirrorless with adapters is great, but not exclusive to L-mount. I also have a lot of EF lenses (and Nikon F lenses). At first I was very tempted by the new Panasonic, but native L-mount lenses are limited. So instead of jumping on the hype, I’ll let the effect of this new and affordable S5II do its work in Sony, Canon and Nikon. I can afford to wait. I can pick up any body or combination of bodies in the future once prices drop and the dust has settled.

Matching colour was my biggest concern and you mention grading Vlog to Clog in resolve but I couldn't find it. Thanks! For the color matching you need to do a color space transform from vlog to c-log. After getting the S5II and trying to match it to Canon I would say it doesn't fully do the job using the color space transform and you still have to do some small corrections to get it to match. It's most definitely doable but will be an extra step in your workflow. The MC-21 Adapter has worked perfectly for me on all my EF and EF-s Lenses. Thanks for the sub. Take care.

It is worth mentioning that the Lumix lenses have almost no focus breathing which is huge for video, something that is a downside with the EF lenses. As well as them f1.8 primes from Lumix are all balanced to! Sooo easy with a gimbal, proper video setup on native lenses 👍🏻

The Panasonic 24-105 f/4 is a rather underrated lens, that can often be picked up second hand at around US $800 or less. It is big and heavy, but versatile, and the optical stabilization of the lens works marvelously with the IBIS of the S5 series of bodies. It isn't a "true" parfocal lens, but it is electronically assisted parfocal, so it does maintain the same focus point when zooming in and out. It has minimal focus breathing (good not only for video when racking focus, but also for things like product photography if you want to do focus bracketing). It also has 1:2 macro capability. Not sexy, but certainly versatile. Alternatively, a lot of people like the affordable 20-60mm lens if you want something smaller and lighter.

That's actually exactly the setup that I'm going for😄I figured since I'm new to the system, I'd get a 24-105 and then fill in any gaps as I discover them. The 20-60 was really tempting to me for it's price, but I like having the constant aperture, and there are times when the 88mm equivalent on my current setup leaves me wanting a little more reach. I must admit I'm not looking forward to the weight though. I've always avoided using camera straps, but I think those days are behind me😅

Great video. I'm considering moving from Sony to the S5ii or S5iix. I started out on Panasonic. And along with Canon, I also like the skin tones coming out of Panasonic cameras. I almost always have to tweak skin tones in post with Sony. Only if I shoot in Cine4 or Cine2 profiles for Sony can I get decent skin tones. But, then I lose the dynamic range of Sony SLog3 profile. I have the Sony FX30, which is a great camera. I would like to keep it as a second camera. But, that S5ii is looking so tasty with the better skin tones. I might hold out for the S5iix, which releases in May. But, who knows what will happen between now and May. Canon might come out with another camera! That being said, I am also looking at the C70 for its cinema camera features. Tough choices these days.

I give a lot of credit to Sony because even though like you I don't like the Sony colors too much but it was because they came out with such competitive cameras that Canon was forced to start giving us better cameras and Panasonic was pressed to finally get Phase detect AF.

Still, I think the S5ii will lead to an increase in Panasonic's market share over time. Which will probably lead to Canon and Sony coming out with more powerful cameras at the S5ii price point. A huge benefit for you and I. :)

I'm about to pull the trigger on a S5II or S5IIx for video and photos, I rely on quick autofocus for my work and have heard some of the adapters don't support continuous autofocus or it's slower. Do you have any advice? How about the VILTROX EF-L Pro, I heard it supports continuous, but is reported as being slow on the S5? (Assuming the S5II would address this)

I'm thinking about getting the S5ii, but not sure if it is worth wait to see how the market reacts to this camera, probably the other brands are already thinking about new interesting cameras with better prices. Only thing I'm sure of is that if Panasonic announces a brand new GH6 mark II or GH6s or something like that with the new PDAF plus dual ISO, streaking issue solved and maintaining all the features it already has (please don't take stabilization out as in the GH5s), then there won't be any more competitors in the market, Panasonic would erase the other brands out of earth.

Highly doubt other companies will have better prices. They might come with some great stuff, but almost all Sony and Canon cameras depend on the tier system holding. If Sony came with something better than the S5ii at 1850 for example, it’d destroy the value of the A73 and A74. It’s easy to forget an A73 STILL costs closer to the S5ii than the A74 does. It’s wild the value Panasonic has brought. It’ll be untouchable for a while imo.

I'm a bit confused. So the mc21 is about $100 and r6II is not that much more than the new panasonic cam. And you were excited about reaching Canon colors with the Panasonic cam, so why not just stick to the r6II? Even with ef lenses if the difference isn't that much from rf lenses? Besides isn't the r6II a far superior photography camera? I'm genuinely interested in your thought process since I'm thinking of going for the r6II over panasonic. Yes i would say the R6 mark II is a better photography camera. The S5II is by far the better video camera though. The only exception is that the S5II has a crop in 4k whereas the r6II doesn't. Other than that the S5II is better. More monitoring features like waveforms, open gate recording, much better IBIS that doesn't have the extreme wobble with wide lenses, and a list of a bunch of other stuff. Don't get me wrong though the R6 II awesome but it depends on your individual needs.

@@jordanmiranda8038 better dynamic range, better stabilization, the best log profile for color grading, better features for monitoring video, 6k recording, unlimited recording, focus breathing compensation corrected lenses, a set of 1.8 prime lenses that have the same size and weight for easy gimbal replacement, etc. etc. Plus a larger selection of lenses, including more affordable Sigma lenses. Canon has better AF by a bit, better rolling shutter, better burst rates, and that's about it.

I'm a Panasonic user so hopefully I can help a bit. One thing that the R6 II DOES have is 4K at 60fps using the FULL frame sensor. Unfortunately the 4K 60fps uses an aps-c crop on the S5 / S5 II (as well as the Panasonic S1 and S1H, and the sony a7 IV). The S5 II has waveforms and a vectorscope, as well as the other things that @nickcarneyphotography mentioned. I don't know if the R6 II has anamorphic modes, but the S5 II does, so if you are tempted to shoot with anamorphics, the S5 II has you covered. Also, the S5 II is probably still less likely to overheat.

@Fulaan Creative that was kinda my take on it. Like you say in your videos it's here... except that one thing. There are a few other small things but really.... the value looks incredible. The R6ii is the only thing that comes close. A couple of advantages for the R6ii spec-wise I saw were more focal points, double the max iso, 10fps faster, and a faster electronic shutter speed. I'm just a dishwasher in this kitchen of cameras and just barely understand the ingredients let alone how they complement each other.

Biggest downside of EF lenses is their size and weight, they are many many more times heavier than modern lenses for whats actually inferior image quality half the time, but for the price? Unbeatable, the 24-105mm F4 Canon is sometimes found for 200 - 300 euros, many of the 24-70mm for the EF mount are sometimes as low as 100 euros, ridicules! Unbeatable prices, the Canon primes however are what made the EF mount so famous, the primes are great and many of them even from the 80s have autofocus!! The F1.2 is probably the most reasonable priced with autofocus F1.2 prime you can get out there, you be paying upwards of 2000 euros for a 50mm F1.2 with AF nowadays

You do know that the Sony A1 is capable of shooting 30 fps, but will only shoot 15 fps with third party lenses? Why do you think that is? I remember when "everybody" was screaming about Apple giving an exclusive to AT&T for their early iPhones. For all the professional features, Lumix packs in their cameras especially for video, I'd rather stick to Lumix than either Canon or Sony. For me it's worth more than the AF every KZbinr complains about with Lumix.

There have been a lot of videos to prove that focusing is no problem only in 4K. If you use 1080, you will not be able to focus well. At present, there are very few real users, all of which are advertising hype. People who use it have reported problems such as inability to focus, freeze, anti-shake and fights. If you buy a Panasonic S5II, you need to pray that they update the firmware every day.

That sounds a bit harsh. I would hope it's not like your saying if so it would mean all those reviewers are being deceptive which is unlikely. I saw plenty of videos where the AF was hunting every now and then but apparently that's already been addressed in the firmware. Well I'm sure we will get more feedback once many more people get their hands on it.

@@FulaanCreative The Asian side has been on sale in January, and many people have gotten the machine. After getting the machine, I found that there is no problem with 4K focusing. But it still doesn't work at 1080p. There is a delay in taking photos. The electronic anti-shake cannot be turned on, otherwise the picture will twitch. You can find some Japanese videos or Chinese videos by yourself. Those who have already purchased can only pray that the new firmware will come soon. very passive. I can assure you that all the videos about S5II from the beginning of January to now are almost advertisements, because no one said the disadvantages! As real users arrive, the questions will grow. If you haven't bought it yet, I suggest you wait.

Possibly but not necessarily. The 4 year old EOS R Is $1800 now. I bought mine a few years ago for $1500 or so. Panasonic is pretty good with firmware updates and adding new features to their cameras so it might hold it's value better than expected.

Has anyone tested this Tamron 15-30mm lens on a Lumix body? Does the AF work? Obviously with sigma mc 21 adapter. The only time I tested a third party EF mount lens on my S1 it didn’t even work. It was a Yongnuo 35mm f/2 It wouldn’t detect the lens. That would be amazing if we could use third party EF mount lenses that have AF that works.

@@lamasteve6905 Facts!!! Canon is going down hill 🤦🏾‍♂️. Fulaan was right, you can expect Canon to downgrade and remove features from their cameras with firmware updates. The only older camera Canon has recently updated was the 90d with 24fps. It should have come with it from the beginning. Customers did the fool and Canon got their minds right. Canon could have done several AF updates for their older cinema cameras but refused to. Putting my 💰 towards the Panasonic S5 II. It’s too good to pass up and it’s ripe for firmware upgrades. There's still no PDAF in 100/120 FPS in S5 II and no one is talking about that...R6 mark II is still the best ...panasonic came after almost 3 to 4 years late with PDAF...and still the same contrast based focus system in higher frame rates...why panny why???

@@FulaanCreative I believe I saw a video that said that the camera does not lose PDAF in those modes. Just loses subject detection mode. Also depending on if you have an external monitor connected you lose the AF boxes in those modes. Lumix is aware and most likely working on an update for that.
