To be fair I’m a huge usc fan and had the bruins beating us by 3 TDs. I do believe Notre Dame will drop at least 5-6 TDs on us. Fight on

@@forwork2601 I just like pointing it out when people pick SC to lose. I expected it to be close and wouldn't have been surprised if Riley pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory yet again. ND will be tougher but their schedule isn't impressive.

Do you see 👀👀 how ben . the powder blue bears 🐻 beat writer 📝 ✍🏼 said the school 🏫 just needs to get a QB. for $1 million dollars..💵 a decent QB. cost more than $1 million. I repeat . 🔁 let me say this a little bit deeper 👀👀 a good QB.. Cost way more than $1 million I digress carry on Oops 😬 I drop the mic. 🎙️ WeAreSC Fight On 🏈🗡️✌🏼💪🏼😤

Both of you are excellent journalists. I'm a trojan and I appreciate your great writing and pointed interviewing you do with the program Ryan. Riley is salvageable but he needs to educate himself more broadly about the task of a field general and take to heart his deficiencies.

With his account of last week's USC-UCLA football game, Kartje at last outdid himself (and even outdid the oft-befuddled, God-help-you-if-he's-called-as-an-eye-witness-against-you Bill Plaschke) - writing perhaps his Poorest Game Story Ever. Contrary to Kartje's claims, Jayden Maiava was hardly "flailing" all night - a puzzling assertion also put forth by Plaschke, who apparently left his glasses at home Saturday night. It's as though Kartje never Saw the game, but instead tried to reconstruct it using a box score and stat sheets. Maiava - who was runnin' and gunnin', avoiding sacks, extending plays, throwing on the move across his body, throwing darts, throwing for first downs, long & short, all in uncanny Caleb Williamsesque fashion, looking much improved from his first start last week - had TWO Sure TD passes go right through receivers' hands, another one wiped out by uncalled pass interference, and a fourth-down conversion attempt slip through sure-handed Ja'Kobi Lane's fingers. These were the so-called "squandered" (the latest over-used buzzword plaguing sportswriting - and usually MISused, at that) trips to the red zone. These were what Plaschke described as "misdirected" passes. (One wonders where, if Not right into a receiver's hands, Plaschke proposes a pass Should be directed.) A reporter doing his job well wouldn't simply state that three trips to the red zone ended with field goals, but would observe, crucially, WHY this was so. Failing to even Notice the missed would-be TDs doesn't speak well for either Times reporter's powers of discernment; while to notice but not Make Mention - well, this is negligence of a different and deeper sort. Charitably, we'll assume the Times reporters simply Didn't See what happened before their eyes. Plaschke at least perceived, and wrote about, the wider implications and dimensions of SC's thrilling comeback win, wherein its burgeoning Star Qaurterback had the Trojans offense humming, in no small part due to his electric and Clutch playmaking. Kartje somehow saw only the numbers, and a QB whose "risk-taking" ways made him apprehensive, and whose Several on-the-money strikes to butterfingered receivers in the end zone amounted to "uninspired play" (Maiava's many escapes, improvisations, third-down conversions, etc., notwithstanding). Kartje walked away from a Rivalry Classic, capped by a stunning, unforgettable, late SC Comeback, with a ho-hum shrug, tinged with a kind of scoffing disenchantment - then inflicted this purblind malaise on the reader. P.S. If some one could please tell Plaschke - and whoever's supposed to be editing this paper - that the simple past tense of Stink is Stank. On this score, almost every current Times sportswriter - with the notable exception of the terrific Ms. Nguyen - has Stunk. (As a reinforcing mnemonic, this Holiday Season, all should feel free to sing along to "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch.")

We can only wonder. Only those on the inside truly know. His first two seasons we were 3rd out of 132 in pts per game. If he were given a truth serum, he probably would have admitted MM was no where near as talented as Williams, Murray, Mayfield, Hurts, (I’m missing someone too). The guy knows QBs and had to see before us regular fans that MM wasn’t good enough to go in the top 6 rounds. I also think he knew Maiava wasn’t 100% ready. LR didn’t forget how to coach. But I think to be ranked in the top 10, you need a legit top 10 QB nationally. Sadly, I don’t think Maiva or MM are that. I still support LR and I’m in the minority.
@JasonJanczak-k6v2 ай бұрын
Plus he’s human. He might look back later in his career and wished he’d made a different decision. Maybe at one point he thought MM was “the guy.” He wouldn’t be the first coach to have regrets. He will learn from this. Hopefully Longstreet works oh and the Lyons comes later. We were SO CLOSE this year.
