About they calling him Kei, that's because Kei is actually his name, while Tsukishima is his surname (and it would be very weird for his family to call him by his family name as they're all Tsukishimas). Well, actually most of the characters "names" as we know are actually their surnames. Hinata's name is Shoyo. Kageyama's is Tobio. Tanaka's is Ryuunosuke (that's why his sis' call him "Ryuu"), etc.

Also. Addressing someone by their Family name is a formal way to call someone. You can only call them by their first name if you are someone who is really close to them like family or best friend.

@@デンジュモク-c4i Daichi is likely called by his first name because he is captain and his style is to be more.. approachable, i guess? but the girl in his level call him Sawamura Same with Asahi, I think he's ok with being called that by the second years, but Kageyama still calls out to him as Azumane-san. Lev is a first year, often called by other first years or senpai. And I think this maybe a Tokyo thing? Less formal? Kenma is the same. But others not, so preference again Aran is called Aran by the twins maybe just cause they know him since they were young and they thought the foreign-sounding name was cool and he's cool with it Miya twins, there's two of them, will get super confusing if referring to them both as Miya, so they almost get an auto Atsumu/Osamu instead lol Wakatoshi is called that only by the other third years and Shirabu iirc and that's the setter so they work closely together Idk the name thing changing person by person is really just down to preference, but is mostly determined by seniority and closeness

just some notes to help you remember things: -aoba johsai = seijoh, its just like a nickname -red guy is USHIjima WAKAtoshi = ushiwaka shortened (hence why I capitalized those letters in full name), how he is most commonly referred to -ushiwaka is from shiratorizawa, the far and away favorite for this tourney -this tourney is to get into nationals, which is the only way they can face bokuto or nekoma, as neither of those teams is in this prefecture -manager is (kiyoko) shimizu you are doing quite well remembering the teams and characters considering it is your first watch-through. part of me is just watching your series as an excuse to watch the show for the 3rd time, though i do genuinely love watching someone actually get as invested into the show as you (as opposed to just reacting to clips out of context and missing the beautiful story telling this show routinely pulls off)

@@muhammadaizat6007 I know one not from Japan Women National Volleyball team, but from Brazilian setter Bruno Rezende. Coach Donny once put a clip on his reaction video, of his set which looks like minus tempo to me. You can easily find his highlight plays on KZbin here. It's also common technique in Japanese men Volleyball, if you see higashiyama vs rakunan match, cmiiw but I think there is one point that the set is so quick it's minus tempo.
@mence5992
@mence5992 3 жыл бұрын
no one can perform a real minus tempo. If you watch close no one leaves the floor before the toss leaves the setter hands. what you are referring are very fast quicks.
@mence5992
@mence5992 3 жыл бұрын
And i want to go deep in the explanation. Lets start with the video "the most spectacular duo in volleyball", Bruno and lucas are in my opinion the best for a comparison. you can watch (i suggest in 0.25 speed) that Lucas leaves the floor a 0.23(while the toss was already made) and lands on the floor a little before 0.24. So you have nearly 1 second between leaving the floor and landing again. a lump consist in going up, staying at the top for a moment and going down. pretend that you goes up for 0.4 seconds, stay at the top for 0.2 and goes down for 0.4 seconds(but probably it's more like 0.45 0.1 0.45 or even less) you have a sweet spot of 0.2 seconds in which you have to toss the ball from the palm of your hands to the palm of the spiker(that's litterally what hinata and kageyama do). So pretend you can set always to a spiker that never misses the time for the approach and can adjust the spike in 0.1 seconds, you still have to make your ball travel in 0.2 seconds from your hands to his hand. Pretend that the setter is not further ahead or behind the spiker and that he perfectly matches his jump making the set a perfect straight line parallel to the floor. how much distance do you need to perform the set? Everything under 1 meter is impossible, both because you would jump in the same approaching area of the spiker and both because your arms are too long. but just pretend that 2 meters are enough we need a ball that can travel at 10m/s (2meters/0.2 seconds) which are 36 km/h = 22.5 mph. A speed impossible to reach for a toss( spikes can go even 3+ times faster). So even pretending nothing goes wrong, both your spiker and your setter are like robots who never makes mistake in a 0.2 play(so fucking unbelievable) and even pretending you can literally stay that much in air(for me 0.2 seconds at the top of a jump is impossible) and that both your chemistry and training are perfect to match always the same height you still should have the fastest hands in the history of the sport to perform that set.

That interaction between Oikawa and Kyotani (Mad Dog) is pretty much one of my favorite Oikawa moments in the show. It shows that even though Oikawa is shown as this easygoing, trash talking person that's seemingly unthreatening to people not familiar with him, he's intimidating enough that he was able to trigger Mad Dog's animalistic instincts with just one moment. That alongside the fact that Oikawa's an overall great player that has a tendency to overwork himself to injury. He's a fascinating character to study haha

And only one representative from each prefecture (except for Tokyo) can go to nationals. As for the Tokyo prefecture because of how it is larger (and how nationals will be held there) 3 teams from the Tokyo prefecture will be able to go nationals. So Fukurodani (Bokuto’s team) and Nekoma (Kenma’s team) have good chance at going to nationals

29:45 Actually, Tsukki’s first name is Kei, which is why his family members call him Kei. In Japanese culture, normally you call someone by their family name (or last name) if you don’t know them too much or if you aren’t really close, which is why Tsukki’s team members call him by his family name.

People in Karasuno are pretty willynilly about family name vs given name policy. Asahi (Azumane) and Daichi (Sawamura) are that (given name) to most players in the team while people like Tanaka, Hinata, Kageyama are just that (family name). Everybody calls Suga, "Suga" (instead of Sugawara), so last names versus first names in sports teams tends to be used all over the place. No matter which culture or country.
@to.ri.3
@to.ri.3 3 жыл бұрын
@@alanlaw1050 I think we see the willy-nilliness in Karasuno a lot because we see them the most, so we notice they use a lot of different ways to address people. Some characters are really close to some others (like Yamaguchi to Tsukki or the third years to each other), a character basically calls everyone by their first names (which is Noya, who calls Asahi Asahi-san and Daichi Daichi-san (adding -san as a means of respect), calls Tanaka Ryuu, Ennoshita Chikara, and Shoyo Shoyo), and some characters are probably really dear to others and that's why they have nicknames everyone uses, like Noya and Suga. Meanwhile, some characters like Tsukki and Kageyama simply use the polite way (last name, or last name + san) because they're the introvert, "distanced" types. Giving nicknames actually happens in other teams too, like in Seijo Oikawa calls Iwaizumi Iwa-chan and Kyotani Kyoken, and in Nekoma Kuroo calls Kenma Kenma, and Kenma calls Kuroo Kuro.

If I recall correctly to, I think it was discussed at one of the training camps but Tokyo gets two teams entered into nationals since they host the tournament and then every other prefecture has one team entered in, I think ultimately there's 48 teams at Nationals just based on looking up how many prefectures are in Japan which is 47 plus Tokyo's extra ticket. Fun fact: School in Japan starts in April and is 3 semesters separated by breaks. Summer break is around 40 days from the end of July to the end of August (where we're at in the show), winter break is 10 days. The school year ends in March and you get about 10 days before the next school year in early April. So they made it through the first semester of the school year and are on the first vacation. Not a whole lot of break between school years like in the US

The best thing about Haikyuu! is that you find something to root about in every team. Every team is working hard toward a dream of going onto nationals and each is ompeting to the best of their ability. The opposition aren't overly simplified to a bunch of "baddies" that you're supposed to "hate" and jeer at. Every team has different personalities, experiences, and any one of them could be the center focus of the show. Each of them has flaws which you can imagine them working to overcome in some future season. The genius of this show is it shows real life in the sense of everyone is a hero of his own story. And no one is just a cardboard villain put in place only for the "hero" to cut down on his way to the top. Winning isn't about cutting other people down. It's about a unique combination of skill, perseverance, desire, determination, and a bit of luck.

38:29 No no, you said it right. Aoba Johsei is written with 4 japanese characters. Seijoh is a shortened nickname for the school, taking the 1st and 3rd characters and mashing them together. The first character in Aoba is more commonly alternatively pronounced Sei, thus SeiJoh. They do this same name mashing thing with Ushijima Wakatoshi by calling him UshiWaka.

So basically the whole interaction with Mad Dog, Oikawa, and the other 3rd years is: Mad dog caused bad vibes and hostility with his teammates and the 3rd years a while back. Which earned him the nickname Mad dog because he doesn't listen to anyone and is aggressive and etc. Here Oikawa says that statement cause that's what he wants him to start thinking as he plays with him and Mad dog jumps back instinctually like a dog cause he felt he should be cautious of Oikawa(cause he is capable of making ppl feel that way as "The Great King") and it references the nickname Mad dog has as well.

A bit about anime production: shows are usually produced in units called a "cour" of about 13 episodes, which is literally a season (as in three month) long. Notice how the new song started in episode 14? That's the start of the secondc cour so they're changing things up. So any time you hit episode 13, expect it to be the last time you hear the same songs.

The interaction with "Mad dog" was basically Oikawa was declaring that he's gonna make him love being on a team with him. He's really manipulative in a good way but Kentaro still being a "mad dog" was reacting instinctually to Oikawa being manipulative. Basically Oikawa is trying to leverage his ability to get along well with everyone to make a teammate with a bad attitude mesh with his team.

i guess you're talking about Inarisaki...although i don't think she'll like them...i mean... idk, i feel like she won't like atsumu ..or even his relationship with osamu, Which is a shame coz they're so funny lol and atsumu is one of my fav characters :'D. Also, the thing about liking everyone in haikyuu is part of the way they're presented, as you said, but i woudn't say it's because their written humanly, oc that's part of it too, but it's mostly bc the series is way more realistic and relatable than other spokon series...somehow every team in haikyuu has its own protagonism, even tho the main one is karasuno, and that's bc the series is realistic in that sense. In real life, there's no such thing as protagonists, each person is the protagonist of their own life, and all those stories of everyone get connected at some point directly or indirectly, there's no main team, each team is living their own story and meeting other teams that are also living their own story, which is how real life is. And that's the secret of how haikyuu is the best spokon series in the anime universe lol, at least as far as i've seen.
@swan1153
@swan1153 3 жыл бұрын
@@nikolechastre28xd65 i guess we’ll see for inarizaki… in the end you can dislike a character’s personality and still appreciate a team for its dynamic and hard work. (and i love atsumu a lot too lol, so i get it.) as for the protagonism that each team has, i definitely agree and that’s kind of what i was trying to get at! narrative tropes don’t work 100% because, like you explained, that’s not how life works! and that’s probably why i’ve seen so many people be surprised about some choices furudate made later on in the manga, or why so many viewers/readers initially trash on the opposing team because they expect them to be assholes and expect karasuno to always be the best of the best. a fantastic series indeed!!!

Whenever the show naturally answers a question or thought that pops up in your head, it's a testament to the great visual storytelling that Haikyuu has. It's true Yamagucci had left the spotlight for a while -> -> which is why they displayed him still struggling with his float serve at the beginning of the montage -> -> which reminds you that he exists and you wonder if he'll improve -> -> Then they show Yamagucci aces Nishinoya, which feels great! We forget about Yamagucci in the first place because of how captivating the storytelling is for when the spotlight shines on the others.

Aoba Josai IS Seijoh. They are the same school so you were right when you called them Seijoh. Also the "Mad Dog" interaction was effectively Oikawa deciding that he was going to make "Mad Dog" happy that he returned to practice and that he would get to play with Oikawa, as he started skipping after a fight he had with other 3rd years. "Mad Dog" jumped back though because the look in Oikawa's eyes made him nervous and they are equating him to an animal that can sense a threat.

I have been waiting months for Victoria to finally see Fly High!(The opening song) and to be able to make this comment with an interesting fact about Hinata's growth, if you rewatch the first opening intro back in season 1 at the end, Hinata spikes with his eyes closed, then on the second opening intro Hinata spikes the ball but he opens up his eyes after he spikes showing that he is starting to grow, and now during this opening the first thing that its highlighted is that Hinata's eyes are completely opened, staring at the ball, showing us that he has overcome his weakness during every scene where he spikes during the intro his eyes are completely opened. IMO It is so cool that the anime gives you this type of information without you even noticing.

Shiratorizawa is one of my favorite teams tbh. The coach is really interesting, I love Ushiwaka and a couple other players. I love their tree and eagle themes and their chant and their school song. They're just a really competitive bunch who take the sport seriously and I dig that they don't let fear or other emotions get in the way -- even if they're only allowed that luxury because of their overwhelming strength.

in anime is normal to change openings (the songs) mid season bc it normally means the end of an arc and the start of another one

I love love LOVE the lyrics to the new opening. There's a particular part that goes like "A fledgling covered in wounds glares up at the sky." "Even if all the low-flyers laugh, I want to see the edge of the sea." It's all about shutting out those fixed-mindset haters too afraid to actually try to make it to the top because they think it's impossible and putting everything you have into becoming the best version of yourself.
