@@tombuck Tom, thanks for your fast reply! I currently have an older MacBook Pro that does not have USB-C adapters, so it has been hard to find a hub for it. I am thinking about getting a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram and either the 256GB or 512GB hard drive, so I would be curious which one your got and how you like it. I also think I will need a hub on it as well, so let me know if you have any recommendations. I am a speaker and coach and plan on using this set-up for online courses and streaming. My wife is also a teacher, so I plan on getting this researched and tested out, so she can use the finished product as well! Thanks again for your authenticity and sharing great videos and information!

This looks like a fantastic tool. Thanks for sharing. I can't justify $32/mo to add some graphic overlays to one or two Teams meetings a month, but I'll keep it in mind if I need it more often.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a big investment, but it can be an absolute life saver. And it's worth noting that since you can also just record directly into Ecamm, it can really speed up the production process.

Thank-you for this video. I use Ecamm and Zoom for workshops and am having trouble getting the PiP to work when I use a pdf overlay. Have you ever had that issue? Also do you offer consulting?

I haven't had any issues once the scenes are set up. My problem is that I often forget to lock the scenes and then accidentally move stuff around while I'm live 😬

Actually really curious what your classes look like, how does the sound effects come in?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I'm not teaching anymore, but when we were online I tried to keep as much of the interactivity that we has in person as possible. Plus I was teaching high school students, so a goofy sound effect every once in a while went a long way for keeping attention or making someone laugh 😁 But all of these tools were really great for sharing presentations and doing video critiques. It was easy to bring in different A/V sources and have students present their projects and everyone could give feedback. Kind of amazing now that I'm thinking back on it!

Great video. Do you have any tips on solving looking into the camera while looking at the face of the one your answering on Zoom? Becomes a little weird when you want to see their reaction and it looks to them that you’re not looking at them.... Thanks

It is strange. I try and position my computer screen as close to the lens of my camera as possible, and then I try and direct as much of my attention as I cna directly towards the camera lens (think of it as a person sitting there). You could always find a teleprompter and rig it up with a second display from your computer so that you're literally staring into the camera when you're looking at your meeting. Caleb Pike from DSLRVideoShooter made a cool video about it.

Great video but when you zoom with more people the virtual cam will become out of focus if other start talking. Is there a way to pin my video like I see it when I use screen sharing?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
You can use the Spotlight feature in Zoom to do that, and it'll be the main image on everyone's screen 👍

Can I ask a) why do you use both? B) when I’ve done classes on zoom, it can’t stream music through my computer and pick up my voice well on my yeti. It only likes one at a time. What would you recommend please?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
This is one of the reasons Ecamm is so great. Zoom has gotten significantly better, but Ecamm allows you to have maximum control over what your A/V inputs look like to everyone else. This is also where you can add in multiple audio sources and mix them together. The only tough part is getting the audio from Ecamm to Zoom- you'll need an app like Loopback that will let you create a "virtual audio device" that Zoom will recognize (basically it lets you mix and match and audio sources you want from anywhere on your computer- I do have a video about it too).
@mrsbutchart70543 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate your reply. Thank you! I’ll check out your other video about Loopback. I’m still a little confused as to why you’d use both ecamm and zoom at the same time?
@koyaanisqatsi74043 жыл бұрын
The problem I ran into, was that zoom downscales „webcams“ when the connection of a student is not perfect. So my overlay and presentation, that are run through my virtual webcam are unreadable. I now use the screenshare ->document camera feature of zoom which does not get downscaled, as far as I know. Did you have this problem as well and what was your workaround?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
A lot of it does depend on your network connection as well as the connection of the people in the meeting. It'll likely be clear for some people and blurry for others. I don't have a great workaround other than doing what you're doing and using Zoom's screenshare for critical items.

I'm assuming that it's saving faster because you are already sending it i an format that doesn't need to be converted. Just random guess.

So you're getting me excited about the possibility of trying Ecamm as a new workflow! Previously I was using Screenflow when doing a combination of screencapture and showing myself on camera. But this looks like it will give me more options... So if you're doing a screencapture recording using ecamm, is it possible to have two separate files, one file for your screencapture and 1 file for your webcam file? Then you can go back and swap back and forth between the two files as you see fit? Or do you have to make that decision on the fly as you record w/ ecamm? Also, when you turned on the new camera at 10:32, the colors don't look nearly as vibrant and amazing as the rest of this video. Is that because of a certain setting you're using for the other cameras to get your colors to pop and look so good? I keep getting all fired up about new possibilities as I keep watching your videos, thank you!!
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Ecamm is amazing! My wife does all of her screen shares for everything directly in it, and I’ve been doing it more and more too. But you only get the one file, not separate sources. As for the colors, I adjusted colors on the regular footage, but Ecamm was straight from the camera. I do have a video about how to create custom LUTs to adjust your image in Ecamm, and you can download mine for free in that video. 👍

Hi Tom after your last video on ATEM mini you convinced me to buy it lol and then after that so far I did 2 LIVE on my channel. one with eCamm and another with Streamyard. Streamyard free version only allowed me 720p and ecamm I see trial ends in 14 days, so after that I have to pay monthly fee , but if have to go that route do they do provide 4K streaming with their standard / basic plan or 1080P?

I went with Ecamm Pro. I found a discount coupon online, which brought the price to $364 for the year. For about a dollar a day, it’s absolutely worth it. I personally don’t have a network connection capable of streaming 4K, but really wanted nice 1080 with all of the added customization.

Hi Tom thanks for the video. I assist my pastor who does the preaching on Zoom. Sitting at my home I want to use ecamm live to capture the video from Zoom into ecamm live and then add the bibles texts etc as overlays and send it to Zoom. I am able to send the output to Zoom via the virtual cam but how can I bring the Zoom video in my scenes? Please advise, Thanks. (i am ok with the audio since I am using the Loopback).
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. You could use NDI.tv to use Zoom as a source for Ecamm. It might be taxing on your computer though. The simplest way, if possible, is to have another computer run Zoom and then use a capture card to bring it in as a video soruce to Ecamm.
