HOW TO USE SPEECH MARKS IN STORIES
If you want to brush up on using punctuation for story writing - perhaps you're a new to creative writing and want to figure out where to use quotation marks (speech marks) then you're in for a treat.
Here are 6 rules to get you started. Using speech marks in creative writing is really important - it's the difference between knowing who is speaking, and getting really confused.
There are a whole lot of rules in punctuation for writing stories, but these are the most important.

I'm enjoying many of your videos while trying to get on track to complete one of my fifty children's stories in progress. You seem to be answering so many of my unknowns. I love your planners (something that will certainly help) I'm going to get to that straight away here on the other side of that ocean where you took a dip with that Dolphin. Thank you for always being so upbeat. Have a marvelous day.

@@JulesMarriner That's a clever way to put it. I already missed a few days and didn't accomplish what I planned, how do you deal with skipping or readjusting to fit your life?

@@karleelk9622 I just keep reminding myself I am doing the best I can. I always said to my boys, if you do the best you can, you LITERALLY can't do any better. My life can be a bit chaotic, so I just try to stick to my schedule, but if I have to change it, it's 'meant to be'. Got to take a philosophical approach, I think.

Lovely video! Can you also make a video on how to punctuate stories for picture books? My picture book text is in first person. It’s actually a 18-20 lines poem, with many of the lines broken and spread across multiple pages rather than each line getting over on the same page.

joanne lopes Ooh that sounds interesting. Do you mean how to break the story up, or do you mean do a video on punctuation?

@@JulesMarriner Love the writing videos and this one was especially helpful (let's face it, it's been a long time since I've been in and English/Writing class). I would be interested in how to break up a story for the illustrations as I'm doing both the writing and the art.

2:24 surely here you should say "once" rather than "when"? I'm not the greatest at english, but once sounds better to me.
@JulesMarriner
@JulesMarriner 2 жыл бұрын
Sticking by ‘when’, I think that’s fine, but you could use ‘once’ - it’s just a bit more formal. Depends who you are talking to or the context.
