I am delighted to kick off Season 4 of Feel Better Live More with former monk turned social media superstar, Jay Shetty. After having spent three years living as a monk in India, Jay believes that you don’t have to live like a monk to think like one. With his social media following now totaling over 32 million, Jay is transforming the ancient wisdom he has learned into bite-sized nuggets that will help us all live more meaningful and purposeful lives.
So many of us these days are living lives that are not truly ours. Instead, we base our opinion of ourselves on what we think other people think of us. In today’s conversation, Jay and I talk about how we can figure out our own identity and live our truest and most authentic life. He talks us through his value audit exercise which will help us all on our way to living the life we really want.
We also discuss the importance of staying open and curious to new ideas and how our childhood experiences play into all our relationships. We delve into gratitude and Jay shares some brilliant tips to help you get more out of your daily gratitude practice.
This conversation is full of timeless wisdom, personal stories and actionable tips and I really hope it helps you live the life you were born to live.

Hello Rangan - I started listening to your podcasts during my daily walks. I’m a pharmacist trying to balance my work and life. During lockdown my husband got Covid and thankfully recovered quickly. He’s a hospital consultant and I’m sure picked up the virus there. Whilst he was home recovering myself and our boys (both off to university soon!) had an enforced 2 weeks isolation. I absolutely loved that time with our boys and looking after Hardeep my husband. I had been working continuously through the lockdown with no break and the pharmacy was the busiest I’ve ever witnessed in my 30 year career. Isolation for me came at the perfect time. I had started putting on weight and eating unhealthily- something I was acutely aware of but it became a chronic problem. I had breast cancer 9 years ago and was getting concerned that I must take better care - as I had always done. The busy pharmacy and constant work to home and back to work again was getting very tiresome. For me the enforced quarantine was a blessing. I have always practiced yoga and have been meditating daily for 9 months. Your podcasts have been amazing to listen to and are a must during my hour long walks. I had read Matthew Walkers book on sleep - a subject close to my heart! I think after eating healthily- sleep is my next favourite thing to do. I take daily naps - essentially only 10 mins at 2pm everyday before I return back to work. My production is always higher after a nap. I just wanted to let you know how much I’m getting out of your podcasts and that I have gone back to series 1and started listening to them all. Jay Shetty is great and your guests are exactly the people I like listening to. Learning about oneself IS the best thing you can do for yourself - I wholeheartedly agree. Thanks again so much. PS I have requested to reduce my working week by a day so that I can focus more on my life… they accepted my request! YAY!!

This was really a good conversation loaded with practical wisdom and kindness. Most of it I realized to be true when I was so much younger but it's good to be reminded by those wisdoms that we have learned over the years but because since there was no validation on those wisdoms and with our severely busy schedule, we have naturally forgotten some of those wisdoms. Shetty has an aura of kindness, humility, sincerity and the desire to help the humanity. He doesn't have a threatening personality and he's very likable. His values and personality are so admirable, appealing and very insightful to regular people with the desire to upgrade themselves.🙏✌❤✝️.

Brilliant interview Dr. Rangan. Thoroughly enjoyable. You asked such appropriate, searching questions and were in synch with Jay throughout the entire interview. Love your authenticity, pace, critical thinking and your facial expressions! Thanks very much.

I came across this attachment styles concept a few years ago and it really is enlightening to understand the different styles and where I’m at with it. Hardly anyone fits into the secure style.

Lots of great content! Regarding the diamond ring example...it's mind boggling how much people are influenced by advertising instead of making their own decisions.

I really enjoyed this interview and it has made me see Jay in a new light and positive way. I’ve seen lots of controversy about him not giving credit and it really put me off his content but he seems to have grown so much since then

I often lived ... in a perception of a perception of me thinking that is what the other person or people think (or value) of me .... that is where I left it umm in hindsight maybe or maybe not? 👍 Being authentic me. Thank you xo
