You have perfectly articulated why I feel overwhelmed and totally devoid of energy all the time, haha. One thing I am taking away from this is to have more self-compassion, adjust expectations, and stop comparing myself to the seasoned KZbinrs who have been around forever. Baby steps! If learning takes up a bunch of my time, it's okay.

Thanks for sharing!! It was my hope with these last 2 videos to accomplish exactly that and give realistic advice on how to deal with it and move forward. I don't mean to sound harsh saying it, but Small KZbinrs really need to stop watching people with millions of subscribers. For most it's just going to give them imposter syndrome and impossible standards.

Really appreciated this honest assessment. I'm 50+, full-time job, three kids, and just launched my channel this year. I even know the basics of video production and have decent equipment, and it's still a challenge. One of the best strategies I've found is to do specific tasks in chunks... make 10 thumbnails all at once, film 10 videos at once, edit 10 videos at once, upload 10 at once and schedule them out at regular intervals. It gives you a little breathing room and helps get you up the learning curve faster.

It's always refreshing to see a KZbinr who is honest and direct. So many others just repeat what everyone else says or they don't remember their own journey. I also like how you acknowledge that many (if not most) of us aren't doing this full-time, so we don't have the same opportunities as others. Another mark that many KZbinrs miss when they're trying to advise their audience. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Roberto. You are talking right to me. I feel it. I am 40 years old, learned how to do KZbin at 39. I work full time and I'm the sole breadwinner for my family. I work 40 hours a week, spend time with my wife and girls, and try to grow a channel in a small niche (probably too small, but there's a reason). I constantly feel overwhelmed and unsure, but I know my goals and what I want to do. I used to do more editing after I learned each step, but have since focused more on Titles and Thumbnails. I'm on my 5th year here on KZbin. I've been watching KZbin Gurus and heeding their advice from the start. However, 80% of it proved to not apply to my niche. I've spoken to many creators in the guitar gear demo community, and they all say the same thing: average KZbin advice does not work for our niche. I still watch your channel as it is clear that your advice comes from experience and not just rehashing the same information that others are already serving. Cheers

As a music creator, the easiest thing for me to do was make my beats, upload them to my distributor and let the distributor automatically upload to KZbin for me on a weekly basis. I claimed my "Topic" channel, linked it to my main channel and if I have the time to make some additional videos, I will. Overall, it's lifted a lot of pressure off of me to constantly try and create content. If one of my beats do well -- Great, if not then hopefully the next one.

I feel this message hits hard even moreso when you consider that at the beginning and infancy of your KZbin journey even if you do manage to get the quality that you set out to achieve, if for whatever reason you don't get the views you desire due to the audience, you might feel disheartened and conclude that KZbin is not for you. I feel that at the beginning you are in a test phase and should be feeling out the whole KZbin experience with test videos. The advice in this video is complete gold and will guide you in a good way towards balancing time and outcome.
@theartfulsage86252 жыл бұрын
Would it be safe to say that a new creator should consider what commitments they want to adhere to early on in terms of frequency of uploads and the duration? Like a bi-weekly topic/theme used as platform for a 30 minute video, with 2, 5 minute videos that either extend the subject matter, respond to comments, or gives updates/notifications of the next topic?
@RobertoBlake2 жыл бұрын
I would say they very much need to be realistic about it and base it on aspects of their lifestyle too. Because you can only be as consistent as your lifestyle allows for. Your idea could work but it depends. Maybe a combination of 30 minute videos but also maybe a livestream for the community and if you want, shorts that introduce concepts to people.
@theartfulsage86252 жыл бұрын
I see, shorts and live streams should be accounted for in the pre-planning in support of consistently making content reasonably. So as an introduction, would it be beneficial to upload a series of videos associated with one another, but stand well of their own? Like a multifaceted mission statement of sorts?

I agree partially in that competing with the KZbin “stars” is unrealistic while working a 9-5 BUT being complacent with marginal quality I feel leads to a limitation down the road. Personally I published a video a week for two years, I recently dropped to twice a month and feel rejuvenated having some extra time to polish the content and get back to making each video a little better than the last.
@RobertoBlake2 жыл бұрын
But you intiially were consistent…. Which means you LEARNED through repetitive and consistent work FIRST how to do better with less…. You can’t just skip that process. MOST people in MOST things in life have to deal with a long period of marginal output because that’s what they are physically and mentally capable of. 1 is Better than 0.

Shorts are definitely proof there is an audience willing to consume content that focuses less on quality and the largest creators can make is seem otherwise but many creators are growing today with “ACCEPTABLE QUALITY”… it just can’t be poor quality. A lot of people only live in those two extremes. But perfect is often the enemy of good.

The video with the most views on my channel (which I am about to revive) is me with bad lighting and bad audio and a phone talking raw about being broke at 50. it's what I'm doubling down on now going forward and how we can all get out of it.

That is oddly encouraging.

I think "lower" quality can make your content seem genuine. Except for audio, if you have a terrible audio game over.

Been seeing a lot of that and the desire for more down to earth content

You're an Inspiration My Friend ! Being close to 60 years old, Married with grown children and working a full time job is an experience. I've gotten into a grove now where I spend around 5 hours a day to create a video from start to finish. At first it was Super Tough to stay awake and not nod off to sleep in front of my computer and gather the energy just to learn how to create a video. You're video's and others like yours helped me muscle though. Thanks Friend.

I really needed this. Last year was a wash because of some depression issues. But i'm coming with a vengeance for 2023. Thank you for doing what you do. It helps me more than you can know.

Robert - Wow! You’re talking straight to me! I essentially work three job, have a wife and 5 kids (who are between 11-22yrs), an author working on my 8th self-published book, and I have been publishing weekly KZbin content for the last 16 months or so. My first videos were definitely more “creative” than the ones I do now in some ways because I was trying to figure out how to edit and find my own style. Now I’m MUCH better at scripting, shooting, and editing and do it all in a fraction of the time it initially took me. With that said, I recently hit phase one of monetization! Keep up the great work!

This has been so helpful; thank you for sharing your positivity and wisdom. High value+high volume can help even building skill and experience that is missing in the beginning because of the positive effect of feedback from the community.

Been watching your channel for awhile now, thanks for all your advice man. Really helping me grow, also following trends and google keyword trends helping a lot. Most of your info is useful even for a gaming channel. Thanks a lot man!

I used to chase making the best video in my niche but switched to making videos that are simple but I enjoy making lol don't expect becoming a KZbin millionaire anytime soon but less pressure on me for sure

*OHMYGAWD!! THANK YOU! My primary channel has a good amount of subs, however I haven't produced much on that channel as I'm no longer living the nomad lifestyle. I started another channel based on my current lifestyle, but those subs just haven't crossed over. It sucks! I'm basically starting all over.* 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

This is very helpful for me as a content creator who has a 9-5 job and want to build online presence at the same time. Looking to apply some of your tips in this year and hopefully I can close the year 2023 with 10k subscribers. Thanks for sharing

Loved this video Roberto and the background is beautiful. Thanks for the advice. I'm a working class creator like others in this comments section and it's been a long and slow journey with KZbin, juggling a full time job, child, family and friends (a life) with limited time. Definitely switching to trying to make high value content rather than getting overwhelmed trying to do high quality then dealing with perfectionism and procrastination issues, for good measure. Honestly, it's just a question on doing the best you can with what you have and giving the viewer a feeling that they gained something from your video. Hopefully we can all apply the things you mentioned in 2023 and push our channels forward.

Thank you so much for this insightful video! I'm a small youtuber, and I've always wondered why my videos are not doing as well as those in my niche despite having better quality than them. But I suppose quality is subjective, and having more videos out there will definitely increase my chances of getting picked up by the algorithm

Thanks Roberto - I think I need to get past the fear and the idea of the 'perfect time' and just aim to pump out a bunch of videos on my chosen subject (music) and not care about how it compares next to my favorite music youtube channels.
