USGenWeb is what we used to a call a "web ring", a network of independent county/borough/parish/town sites all linked together. As state and national coordinators, one of our main functions is make sure that every county-level area is represented in our network.

I had pretty much forgotten about this, as well! Some of the greatest things I remember are things like lists of churches, or tax lists, or postmasters. Family bible transcriptions. Great historic maps, even at the very local level. I NEED to go back to looking here, and querying, and making contacts again....

I have used USGenWeb a little in the past. But after watching this, I really think I have not utilized it's full potential. I can't wait to dive into the site and see what I can discover. Thanks for the video Connie!

US GenWeb is wonderful but I sometimes forget about it. A while back I asked about a document that I was looking for in Pennsylvania and the county coordinator found it, transcribed it for me and emailed it to me!! Thank you for this video. I just recently discovered Taneya on Facebook and enjoy your videos.

I have a question not related to this video (though I can't wait to watch!). I'm doing some family research while at work and came across a potential family member listed on an 1870 NY census. The ages of everyone are between 10 and 14 years old. They all have the same dwelling number. What could this be from or tell me?
@GenealogyTV
@GenealogyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Likely that they’re all living in the same household. Look for an adult on the top of the list who would be considered the head of household.They all have the same last name they’re probably all siblings.

@@GenealogyTV That was my thought at first, but the entire page top to bottom is full of kids aged 10-14, and no adults listed, at least on the page I have. I appreciate the response!

@@chelseas2884 sounds like you need to go to the page before the one you are looking at. This will tell you what kind of a facility they are at.

Yes I agree with @Kathy Wiseman. You always want to get in the habit of looking at the page before and after to look for other family members anyway.

I used to use this site all the time but the individual who ran our local counties quit. I will have to go back and check for new information.

I was correct that page is still down in our area. Only one town in the whole thing has been updated and while the information is relevant the pictures are not.

I have been trying to contact the US GenWeb for Delaware Sussex County, but it only allows me to pick which email I want use. None are listed. An email address is preferable to me.
