Excellent tip on relaxing the arms Todd! I have done this in addition to loosening my grip pressure and has definitely improved my ball striking. Your "vertical swing" suggestion that I am now using is another added benefit to my golf game. Always learn from your videos! Keep up the good work!

Todd: Allan Patrick, 67 year old retired surgeon New Brunswick Canada. I've only hit balls in a short indoor range but I can already hear a much better "whoosh" when I swing the club using the Vertical Line Swing. Effortlessly, compared to trying to create that sound with my old rotational swing. From the top, all I have to do is slightly drop the club into the slot to signal the transition and let the weight shift create all the club head speed. It seems like effortless power. I KNOW I will be hitting the ball farther. I typically hit a 7 iron 140 yards with the old swing. Adding 15 yards will shorten the holes a club or two. Can't wait to tell you my distance results.when the season opens here around May 1.

Allan, great post. Nice to hear you are making progress with the Vertical Line Swing. It is amazing to see the impact we are making on the golf community. Have you seen my book, The Bad Lie where the entire system is covered? Here is the Amazon link if interested www.badliegolfbook.com/

@@USGOLFTVshow I got a copy of "The Bad Lie" and have read and reread it many times, made notes in my phone, and now know the setup cold. Even at this early stage, I can reduce my swing thoughts to only two. Keep the eye on the ball and make a good weight shift back and through. I've been playing golf about 30 years and this is the first time I have felt solid in a swing. I've bought so many on line courses and taken so many lessons that there were way too many swing thoughts and too many moving parts. I am so grateful to you for doing this important work. I can't wait to message you once the season starts and let you know how I'm mAking out

I been working on exactly this during this offseason. I am finally on plane and not under it. The concept of the left arm straight back and up is very easy to mentally grasp. So much instruction can get so complicated . This is simple, control the left arm, keep the left shoulder down and get the hips rotating. That’s it, now the downswing doesn’t need to be manipulated because of a bad backswing……..

Thanks for the post and kind words. You are spot on, golf instruction has gotten way too complicated! Golf should be simple, not easy, but simple.

I’ve recently started swinging the club “steeper”, and it has helped tremendously. My misses before were blocks, and over draws. I was too flat. I even stepped a little closer to the ball, and stood a little taller at setup. Great advice!

Here in the Northeast US, we are in our downtime, so I started doing this drill indoors and within three swings taking the club back more upright, I was/am making much better contact. Now I can't wait for the snow to melt.........

VLS works great for me. However there is a disconnect between hip shoulder turn and arm swing. Club gets too deep when turning hip shoulders and straight back arm swing does not result in enough turn and club goes outside in downswing

Thanks so much for your tips targeting us more “experienced” golfers. I do have a question: years ago I took a lesson and the pro wanted me to feel as though my right knee (trail knee) moved towards the target and led my right shoulder through the swing. His contention was that would get me over onto my lead side and also make it much harder to come over the top if that trail knee is moving laterally instead of down towards towards the bal. Is this correct thinking, does it square with your teachings?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this makes sense. Getting the trail knee to work towards the target in the downswing is good advice. Thanks for asking..

New subscriber Todd. Enjoyed the video. I am having a problem hitting hooks that are sort of low and quick diving. Divots appear from the inside with closed face. Am I being quick on the downswing and flippy?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 жыл бұрын
Welcome! If the hook is low then odds are you have a clubface issue. Grip the club a little firmer in the last 3 fingers of your lead hand. Pinky, ring finger and middle finger. This may help keep the clubface square. 👊

That's exactly how I take a practice swing. The trouble comes with execution. It's amazing how standing over a little white ball can change your mind. Dam I love this game.

Yup!!! Stand over that ball and everything changes. I think your mind tricks you to go right back to your bad habits because it feels right.
