When I dropped out of magic in 2002, I stored all my mtg cards in the Pringles cans (they were more… metallic back then) and wrapped them in multiple plastic bags. The cards were stored that way for more than 16 years in my grandmother’s summer country house without heating, so cold in winter while nobody lives there. Perfectly fine. Couple foils became clouded, that’s all. So cheers to the deck boxes of my childhood :))

There’s actually a very efficient and cheap way to prevent your cards from curling. What you have to do is when buying/picking your cards, you choose the ones that specifically has no shine to it or foil as they call it. It’s almost always half the price and it even looks better in my opinion.

I've solved this problem stacking a bunch of curled foils very tight into a bundle box with a lot of other cards. It took a bit longer, but it did really worth it.

Blue painter's or masking tape is a bit easier to handle but doesn't hold quite as well. The most effective and least brute force method I've found to fix curled foils is to put them in a small bathroom or closet face down with a humidifier near.

my solution to curled foils is to sleeve them, then get the whole deck & just weigh it down with heavy things for a day, i usually put 5 double sleeved commander decks in boulders on the newly sleeved deck, it helps with curls & even trapped air that makes your deck very puffy & hard to hold

Can confirm this method works. Been doing it for a while. I wrap for about 12 hours followed by heavy compression between books for 2-3 days. Normally sorts them out pretty well.

As a carpenter, I have a vice on my back porch. Double sleeve, stack all victims of Pringle-isation together, slap 'em between two 2×4s, and tighten the vice until they fit snug. I leave them for 18-24 hours, and they'll be golden when I come home. Just make sure it's not scheduled to rain anytime soon :P

I actually do the same thing but with a coffee bean can, I have a reusable set up with masking tape and large sleeve. I usually throw in 2-4 cards and wait a day, works (most) of the time!

My coworker on a whim decided to try and use a hot laminator on low heat on one of the penny foils. It worked perfectly. You have to use a thin board so there isn't direct heat on the card or it can melt the foil. Also any specks, dust, or blemishes will be permanent to the card so you have to make sure there is none of that. Much faster as it only needs 1 or 2 passes usually 3-5 seconds per pass through. You should experiment with cheap cards to figure out what works best before trying it on more expensive cards. Originally he did it to non foiled cards with severe warping and later on the foil after it worked so well to fix it. If anyone else tries this method I would like to know how well it works as we haven't tested it on lower grade laminators. We used the one at our workplace.

it doesn't actually fix the curling, it just counterbends it to make it look uncurled. It's a good enough fix but magic cards are developed to bend back to "flat" (in this case curled) over time, so it would recurl immediately. I find doublesleeving in a tight binder in a drawer with silica packets has been working a charm after about a month or two.

Wow, cheap, easy, and bonus irony on top! A good method. I would suggest using the humidity method over this if any of your foils are valuable, though. It seems like forcing the card back with mechanical stress might be a bad idea in that specific case.

​@@ChrisBcards The card's paper expands or contracts because its moisture content changes; the reason it curls is that the foil it's attached to doesn't do that, causing the paper to warp. You can fix this by adding/removing moisture to bring the paper element back to its intended size. The safest way to do that tends to either be a desiccant or a humidifying pack depending on which way it's cupping. Foil bulging out means it's too dry, cardback bulging out means it's too wet.

I use a similar method. 1" PVC pipe and I roll the cards around it. Bends them back in about 2 tries. Also very fast, you don't have to wait.

I find that you can use the tall thin "Ice" drinks for much quicker results. I just press it down with my fingers for 10 seconds roughly and that tends to do the trick.

I just put mine in a magnetic acrylic photo/award frame, and leave for 2 days, they come out 100% flat. Can only do 2 per frame though, so I have 5.

Plastic bottles work just as well. The cards do slowly get the bend back with time, but it will always stay an improvement.

ok this seems serious and not a joke. so i will add: you just have to get a humidity pack and put it in with the bent cards. they are dehydrated they are thirsty.

Unfortunately, they curl again shortly afterwards. Another option: double sleeve them (especially if they're going into a double-sleeved deck), then put them between the cover and last page of a thick hardback book. Close the book, add weight, and leave them there for the better part of a week. Then, make sure they stay in the deckbox with little wiggle room. They'll still curl when not compressed, but hopefully that will only be while they are being played, and they'll retain the straighter shape for the majority of that time out of the box. Alternatively... buy non-foil? WotC has proven consistently that they will not solve this problem at the printers.
