I love the suggestion to put the canister in a plastic bin and add a water leak sensor! I am ordering one now. Overall I love my Fx 6. Easy to use and seems to do an amazing job.

Hey ben just a idea if before you take you're fx6 out to service it. Shut of your intake hose first then your out take return. Then service it but when you put it back to use if you connect intake and return hose next. Next step is to open up the valve intake and then return line. If you did it correctly your fx6 will automatically begin to fill with water from the tank if your siphon was maintained before you took it out to sevice. I used to prime both my fx6 cannisters for years before i realized this. The reason it's better to do it that way is for weight reasons you don't have to move around a heavy cannister back to your tank. Not criticizing you bro just food for thought. Later ben.

A tip for filling the FX filters. Place the canister back in its location with no water in it. Connect the water input from the tank and crack open the valve partially. Shine a small light down the outlet connection and watch for the water to rise. You can control the flow coming in and shut it off when it is full. Make final connection and start up the filter.

Yes, the in hose shut down and then reattached and opened works as a great siphon.

Hi Ben I like your show just want know can you use barbeque lava rock in the filter canister
@BenOchart3 жыл бұрын
If it’s pure lava rock with no additives, just break it into smaller pieces, rinse and put it on the filter.

@@BenOchart I’m due for water changes. I was hoping I had time until tomorrow due to a busy schedule. Came home from working the night shift and noticed the water in the 125 was cloudy. So I did an emergency filter service and a small water change. It seems to be fine now. I’ll do my water changes tomorrow on all of my aquariums and they’ll be clear as air as usual. I had just finished rinsing all of the sponges and media in my fx4 30 minutes before I watched your video. You’re some kind of mind reader or something???? Following your advice, I’ll service the SunSun I also have running in the 125 at a later date so I don’t kill off my bacteria. Again, thanks for the video Ben.

Hey Ben, I have a question about your tank setup for your cichlid tank do you have a WaveMaker on it to help with the heater to function better and keep the water moving for better health for the fish. I am new in keeping cichlids and I am learning so if you and anyone else can help me with learning to be a great cichlid keeper. Thanks.
@BenOchart3 жыл бұрын
The 2500gph sump pump and the FX-6 output are producing a tremendous amount of water movement but I ask going to install a 3500 gph wave maker that will sit low in the tank to help “sweep” the bottom and move waste into the filters.

the inside rack of an FX6 sure looks like the leaning tower of Pisa! LOL
@HalfManHalfCichlid3 жыл бұрын
The first rule of an effective cannister is the Quantity AND Types of media is much more important than flow. I do not use the FX6 since nearly 50% of the internal cannister volume is plastic cages and other racks. This is why I stick with an Eheim 2262. I have one that is 30 years old. This cannister has nearly zero internal plastic displacing media. This is one reason why I can go 1 yr. between cleaning, and able to avoid the largest problem with FX6- they clog and are difficult to service. Not to mention that every time you clean a cannister you create a major disruption to the stability of your system. You lose a lot of BB.
@BenOchart3 жыл бұрын
I’m talking about a basic understanding of canisters. You’re talking features and preferences. That being said I get your point. Oase has some good cans that you might like. Smart design, well built and easy to service.
@HalfManHalfCichlid3 жыл бұрын
@@BenOchart Hopefully a few of your followers will get the points I made and consider them when they buy a new canister. I do understand that your video is about making life easier for those who already have made an investment in an FX6, and it is excellent The FX6 is "plug and play", along with the marketing "hype" from Fluval is why it dominates the canister market. Thanks for the tip on Oase, I checked it out and its highest rated flow is 400 gph for the largest size. My Eheim is rated at 907 gph and runs above 800 gph with the way I pack sponges and pot scrubbies. Oase are expensive for the low flow!!
