Use a few drops of W&N blending medium and they won’t dry out at all it’s been so helpful since I came across it

I don’t have gouache or use it, but I have heard Sarah Burns recommend W&N blending medium to stop gouache from drying out. If I remember correctly, mould did not grow either, despite remaining fluid.

@@awatercolourist yes I have had my gouache in a stay wet palette mixed with the medium for over a year now and no mould or drying out

I love the painting. Those clouds on the right half of the painting ... 😍🥰 I've never worked with gouche, but I've been following Sarah Burns for many years here on KZbin, and she paints with watercolor and gouach and has recently fallen in love with dried gouche. 😊 I hope you're having a great time, and thank you for posting! 💞

From what I've seen online the only gouache that had molding problems are m graham gouache and miya himi gouache. The whole painting turned out nice but I'm especially in love with how you painted the sea 🥰

Definitely the most tricky part about using reconstituted gouache is knowing how much water to add to each pigment so they get a nice creamy consistency and not too transparent. I've noticed that each color will take a different amount of water. Otherwise I think they work really well.

I am a huge fan of gouache and just started using dried gouache in my palettes lately (easier for travel or to avoid getting out all my tubes). I’m quite impressed with its rewetting ability! Love how your gouache scene turned out 😊.

That’s a really gorgeous gouache painting! I love how bright & fresh the colors look. Great details & composition! I use both the same brand of W&N Gouache & the stay wet palette. Mine do the same thing with drying out & I have not had any issues with mold growing on them either. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Have a great day!

Sarah Burns loves using Daniel Smith gouache when its dried up. She did a whole series of testing gouache brands. If you haven’t checked it out then visit her channel. She does a lot of videos on gouache. Loved your painting. I love seeing you paint. Your paintings are always so beautiful and they inspire me to paint more. Thank you for inspiring me ❤

Great painting! You’ve inspired me to dig out my gouache and put it in a pallette to dry out (have an allergy to mould so keeping it wet kept putting me off). I think I’ll use distilled water to re-wet them too. Belt and braces…that’s me 😂

im autistic and too much mess overwhelms me. i love watercolor but want more opacity like acrylic. so ive been testing out y dry gouache that ive not used for 5 years and adding honey too it to lessen cracks and so far im enjoying it! was able to get thick consistency even before the honey. w&n designer gouache is amazing! bought a new set and some half pans and hope to mix a new batch with the honey . dry is sooooo much easier.

Hi Helen. Can I ask please do you use normal watercolour brushes when painting with gouache or do use use brushes just for gouache?
@helencryer
@helencryer 9 ай бұрын
I usually use synthetic brushes used for acrylics and oils, so that they can cope better with the thick consistency of the paint. If you were using the gouache a bit watered down, you'd be OK with watercolour brushes.

Very good results, yes! The Sarah Burns Studio channel has a useful video on curtailing mold in a "stay wet" palette with a very small spritz of clove bud oil (not the same as clove oil), starting at 7:00 at "How to prevent MOLD in your gouache palette - Brand comparison mold tests." kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaCmiX6Xa9t5fck She also suggests refrigerating the palette (but not freezing it) if circumstances allow. Of possible interest, too, is her experience with the crumblies: "How to use DRIED gouache - palette setup, brand comparisons, & tips" kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJO3qXl6Z56bd7M She talks about reactivating the paint starting at 10:46. She uses a pocket-sized spray bottle in an effort to get just enough water into the wells without turning the gouache into watercolors.
