Mark Wallace, my external speedlite flash is a generic Neewer one that doesn't have high-speed sync capability. So I have to shoot at 1/200 or maybe 1/250 at the fastest. Is there anything I could do to underexpose a very bright bckgrnd without having to purchase a new flash?
@BernieLovato12 жыл бұрын
Great video Mark, Nikon user, I understand how to underexpose the background in manual mode but how do you adjust for the flash exposure in manual mode, and why do you use TLL and not TLLBL mode on the flash outdoors.

Great video as ever! What metering mode is set on the camera, would it be spot to ensure accurate exposure for the face?
@keumkusou2488 жыл бұрын
you used use matrix metering. if you used spot meeting, the subject would be exposed properly but the background would be blown. with what he did, expose the background then add flash to bumpe up the light on your subject.

@JorgenSindyCortez8 жыл бұрын
Nice video. but I have just one question. .. did you shoot at full power in the last shot. ?????
@TheStigHCE098 жыл бұрын
+Jorge n Sindy Cortez It would not have been at full power as hi-speed sync pulls power from the flash as the shutter speed increases.

Mark, were these all using TTL for the On-Camera Flash in the studio? And no Flash Compensation?
@IsbergNiklas10 жыл бұрын
No need to switch to Canon. Check your auto ISO settings. Even though you're in manual mode and you've set your ISO to 100, it automatically tries to get the biggest ISO value in order to get rid of the dark space. Just switch auto ISO off and always use manual. That way you can control the brightness/darkness much better. Not sure what is the best value for D3200 for not getting any film grain but with my former camera D3000, the biggest value was 800. Try it out! =)

only thing I wasn't sure about this video was ..what setting do you put the flash on, I mean the external flash? Is it ITTL for Nikon or ettl for cannon or manual mode?? If its manual mode how do you work out which setting to put it on or just trial an error Great Videos as usual though..

@sardaomalandraj12 жыл бұрын
Two questions: will you always use the flash at direct angle on the subject, like you did on the video? And also, would you ever change the flash strenght to adjust the proper flash power directed to the subject? Like to help diminish the "flash appearance" sometimes the subject gets?
@tahomyjo4 жыл бұрын
God I certainly hope not...And yes on the power adjustments, I'm sure after all these yrs have passed you've got it down by now

For ppl without hss on your flash, instead of adjusting the shutter speed to get the correct exposure for the ambient light, stop down the aperture instead. Now yes you are sacrificing that bokeh effect because of the higher aperture but you can at least get a similar effect as far as lighting goes. This just shows the benefit of having hss capabilities.

What do you mean meter your light/background?
@gilegraam12 жыл бұрын
@Uscbryan949 nikons do it better since you don't see any curtains at max sync speed unlike canon with which you need to use around 160. nad yeah 250 is enough, just use higher aperture.
@RoybalPhotography11 жыл бұрын
Mark typically uses ETTL on canon when doing these :)

what is the iso value when you shot 1/4000shutter speed
@patrickb43214 жыл бұрын
I am thinking it's iso 100 because he is trying to underexpose the shot before introducing the flash, and he is keeping an open aperture for a shallow depth of field. A high iso would negate anything that he is trying to accomplish by increasing the shutter speed, because iso affects overall exposure, i.e, foreground and background.
@jdawg206A11 жыл бұрын
you may have auto ISO turned on in your camera. you will need to check your camera menu to ensure that is turned off.

Hi, Would would you provide the caption of your videos? To download automatic captions of a video, you must be the owner of the video. If this is the case: Log into your account Subtitles pane, look for a track titled English: Transcript by machine. Click the Download button next to the track. So, KZbin saves a file called captions.sbv on your computer. A. BLS is just a text file with time code information. You can use it in a tool captions or open it with an ordinary text editor.

@kaybrown56378 жыл бұрын
+brianminkc - My Pentax K5 doesn't have HSS, but if I bought a higher end Pentax flash unit for my camera, that does do HSS. It's all in the flash unit.
@brianminkc8 жыл бұрын
+Kay Brown Well on Nikons its in the body and the flash. I guess Pentax is different then.
@kaybrown56378 жыл бұрын
On my Pentax, my maximum sync speed for an external flash (your basic Rokinon bottom of the line type) is about 1/180th of a second. If I use an HSS enabled external flash like a Pentax 540 FGZ II, I can surpass that, from what I've heard. It may happen just with the Pentax flash, or if I use a Cactus V6 with it. Going to try it out in the next few months.
