Hee Hee, I've been doing this for years and i put the appropriate pump clip on the pump. Because it come through the nozzle it looses carbonation n smooths out. They non the wiser 😄nice one Tom

I've been doing this since I got my pump a couple of years ago. I found the pressure barrel to be a bit of a pain as it needs air to release the beer so I've changed to a reusable bag which you can buy on eBay. It has the same kind of tap as the plastic pressure barrel and you just pour in as much beer as you want and squeeze the remaining air out like you would a hot water bottle and screw the tap back on on. It keeps the beer fresh and it shrinks as you pump the beer through just like the bag in a box beers.

That's a great shout too! How do you get on with cleaning the bag? I've used some of the normal bag in a box bags for some homebrew but I don't think they'd stand up to much repeated cleaning.

why don't you try some broadside or esb in this way. would be interesting to see if the full body and malt character changes in any way.

Purely as an experiment, and I guess in the odd instance where you really wanted to be able to hand-pull a specific beer that you otherwise couldn't easily get a keg of. You still wouldn't get the true experience of cask conditioned ale, but the same could be said on the beer-in-a-bag setups too.

Certainly could! Only issue with those is they aren't really cleanable / reusable. But absolutely valid option.

If left out for a while yeah absolutely. If you're emptying from the bottle and pouring immediately I don't see any issue.
