Its common sense to run the bar in Whakatane you only have to wait for the set to drop about 1 in 7 you get a flat break or just keep the bow on the wave in front and follow it it in .Going out is more exciting and can get very wet when the bar is like this its better to just stay home .Have fished out of there for 35 years never had a problem on the bar just treat it with respect if the seas shitty just stay home .

Easy, I've done it many of times. Just keep the same speed as the waves. Slower and you get swamped and faster you lose control.
