Descriptive Transcript
This video describes the use of Android Auto with the Uconnect system. The audio contained in this video consists of voice over with music. Some sound effects that support the visual movement are present, but are not integral to the information contained in the video.

[voice over] From work to play, your phone is a big part of your everyday life. Now, make it a part of all those miles in between with Uconnect, now with Android Auto integration.
Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for your Uconnect touchscreen. So you can enjoy your Android-powered phone on the go!
[Text on screen] To use Android Auto on your phone screen, you’ll need an Android phone running 5.0 or higher and the Android Auto app. Google, Android, Google Play, Android Auto and other marks are trademarks of Google LLC.
[voice over] Jam some tunes right from a favorite streaming device, like Google Play Music, Pandora or Spotify. Make calls and send texts. And you’ll always stay on track when Google Maps leads the way. These features, along with many of your favorite Android Apps, are now available with Android Auto.
If you want Android Auto to launch automatically when your Android phone is connected, go to the Apps page, then Projection Manager, and select Smartphone Device Mirroring… otherwise, keep the box unchecked.
And, the Auto Play feature automatically plays music from your Android phone whenever it’s connected. You can turn it on or off in the Audio category of your Uconnect Settings.
To use Android Auto, just get the app on Google Play using your Android-powered smartphone. Then, connect your phone to the USB media port in your vehicle.
[Text on screen] Be sure to use the factory-provided USB cable. Aftermarket cables might not work.
[voice over] You may have to accept terms of use and enable your Bluetooth connection the first time you launch Android Auto.
Look at the Phone icon in your touchscreen menu bar. You’ll know your phone is connected and recognized when it changes to the Android Auto icon. Android Auto should then launch automatically, or you can press the icon to get it rolling yourself.
There are four ways to interact with Android Auto, and all of them keep your phone safely tucked away. Use Android’s speech technology, your steering wheel audio controls, radio faceplate controls, or the touchscreen itself, which displays a special Android Auto version of your phone.
Now, let’s say you want to use Google Maps for navigation. All you have to do is launch Android Auto, then push and hold the VR button. Once you hear the beep, you can set your desired location by voice.

Every time I get into my car and turn it on I lose the sound of my phone and it doesn't go to my speakers until I navigate to the proper connection. If I'm listening to the radio or an audio book, it keeps playing yet I hear nothing. Would you know how to have your phone connected yet only connected yet only connect when you choose to?? Manually?

Unfortunately you still have to check to ensure your model phone is supported by the make and model of vehicle you have. My primary car is a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. I recently upgraded my phone to a pixel 7. They do not work together. AA works on my older wrangler . I am not sure why they don't work on the newer Jeep

I was able to connect to 2018 Bighorn but only to call and text. The truck shows 5 contacts as favorites. One contact does not show a phone (walkie talkie) icon to the right of the name. For the life of me I cannot figure why this one contact shows different than the others on the truck's screen.

Couldn't connect the phone to uconnect. Kept saying device is not supported. I tried different usb cables. I just realised i had USB debugging mode ON and and soon as i turned it off the phone finally connected. It was a pain to make waze working. Not sure why. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall it. But waze did not open on my phone when android auto was connected. When i logged out and i tried to log in using facebook creditentials instead of my cell number it finally worked. Yay

You can't use it wirelessly. Unfortunately. Your phone has to be connected with your USB cable for Android Auto to work.

Bluetooth can't (at the moment) handle the data transfer rates needed by Android Auto. That's why you have to use it through USB. if Google fixes that on a later update, bluetooth connections may be available on more phones.

I just bought a 2020 Dodge Challenger ScatPack with the 8.4 radio.I put my Android Phone too BlueTooth and able to connect by Pairing the radio and phone with Bluetooth.Butttt I thought the Android Auto App was also Bluetooth???Only way for me to get to the Android Auto App too appear is to Plug the Android phone into a USB in the Glove box next too the seat.Thought that the Android Auto app was BlueTooth if I wanted it too be?So I would guess if I want to use the Android auto App and use the Google GPS is that the Android phone HAS to be CONNECTED to the UBS connection and not able to use BlueTooth at all?I really don't care but would be nice too know.Thanks allllll

my understanding is that the amount of data involved is too much for bluetooth to handle. What I've heard though is that you can connect the head unit and the phone via Wi-Fi; this might require connecting an Android TV stick to the head unit as a Wi-Fi antenna.

I haven't tried it yet but I belive older vehicles have to plug in mine is a 14 Ram. According to my research new vehicles don't need to plug in but ours does. But I did see a video where a guy got a device to make it wireless to use Android Auto.
