Doin great Russ! I suggest you bring a safety pilot along while you learn your new avionics. Someone who can just watch for traffic. All the screens and technology become a big distraction and will keep you heads down in the beginning. Once you become more proficient it won't be as big a deal. Fly safe, have fun!

Love how real you are with your experience. You need a cameraperson or whatever they call them today. I know it's expensive but the angles and effort that go into making videos will pay off, in my opinion. Bloopers at the end would help also. "Good Lord, this bleepin' plane is heavy!"

I cracked up at the last sentence in your comment!😂😂😂 that’s definitely a fantastic suggestion. I thought about trying to engage people to help me do videography and editing. Especially since I’m still really challenged by it. But I think you for the support, and the positive feedback. Take care, and thanks again for the suggestions!

Oh man, when I started getting checked out for a high performance, I had to learn to not fight the controls, I was so used to a trainer! Going to a well-maintained high-performance airplane is such a welcomed transition; I haven't gotten to experience auto-pilot step yet, one day! Keep up the great videos, fly safe Russ! Edit: Posted before I watched the end of the video, my motto is "Just fly the ----ing plane!" Aviate, Navigate, Communicate, watching you follow that gave me chills, keep it up! Lastly, I built a small tug for taking the plane in and out of the hangar, I'm not happy with it though, I'd recommend spending some money on a good used unit (or riding mower?) if you can find one, our challenge is the wings get really close to the side walls, so precision is a part of it, makes it more difficult.
@RusscanFLY6 ай бұрын
I hear you on that switch from trainer to high-performance! One of the things that I still kind of struggle with is coming into hot and high. High performance planes want to fly, so getting it slowed down on final is still a challenge for me. Also, I’ve just figured out that a little nose up trim goes along way to help control the airplane in the flare. I will say that flying with an auto pilot is awesome! Actually to be honest, it feels like cheating! It makes aviator so easy. At any rate, thank you so much for your support, it is greatly appreciated. Fly well!

Nice piloting. I did notice one thing that may seem insignificant but could be a problem should you encounter turbulence. You may consider getting a kneeboard that can contain a memo pad with a pen holder. some of them even hold that plus an iPad. I'm glad you are very clear in your aviation intent. Loved that you configured the aircraft in case you had to do a go-around. Always keep that attitude and never grow complacent when you think you have mastered Charlie. And always stay ahead of fuel management. A lot of birds are dropping because of fuel starvation, even though there is fuel onboard. God bless.

have you done much IAS descending/climbing with the '500? so easy to use, and the best way to climb (better than fpm in most cases). 15:20 lol new hangar problems. looks great in the hangar though! I miss the '500, it was so nice in training. I know I'm late in the comments but I appreciate your vids and flying.
@RusscanFLY5 ай бұрын
It’s interesting that you asked that question! I understand the vertical descent settings perfectly. I do struggle a bit with the indicated airspeed settings. Just today I had somebody explain to me how to set that. So I’m going to try that next. I did have an instructor say use indicated airspeed for climb, and vertical airspeed for descent. Anyway, thank you so much for your support and taking the time to watch and comment. You are awesome!
@flysport_tedder5 ай бұрын
@@RusscanFLY IAS is fun when you figure it out. It safer for climbing- you don't want to climb at 500fpm because at some altitude you'll run out of airspeed doing that climb. That's what makes it great. And the 500 has all the settings right there, not buried behind 5 button presses. Descending with fpm makes sense. I've been testing "best glide" settings and descending with IAS for that reason.

Oh man Russ. Wait until you start using that autopilot on an instrument approach. I bet your CFII will show you how to use it but won't let you use it use it much in training. Honestly using the AP to fly an approach is so easy it's like cheating. I still hand fly approaches with a safety pilot for proficiency. But the AP makes instrument flying a TON easier. It's an incredible safety improvement. I won't fly single pilot IFR without one. Can't wait until you get to experience that.
@RusscanFLY6 ай бұрын
Definitely looking forward to it, brother! It already feels like cheating to me. I mean, it’ll climb at a certain speed, descend at a certain speed, change to a different heading. So crazy!
@Kingovcali86676 ай бұрын
I find this video very interesting because I am a student pilot and learning through my PPL on a glass cockpit to use auto pilot is weird to see someone that has experience to use it for the first time. However, it is amazing to see we learn in different ways at different times or different systems, keep up the good work.
