Using Bluetooth Remote with Sony a7C Camera

This video shows how to use a Bluetooth remote control device to control some operations of the Sony a7C camera. The remote used for demonstration is the Sony RMT-P1BT. The other remotes shown, with features similar to that remote, are the Sony GP-VPT2BT and the JJC BTR-S1.

The C or Custom button on the camera corresponds to the C1 button on the Bluetooth remote control, yes.

Helpful thank you. The camera obtains focus before taking the picture, correct? So in other words just like pressing the shutter on the camera.

Yes, the camera will use its autofocus before capturing the image, assuming it is set to an autofocus mode and the AF w/Shutter option is turned on.

Yes, I believe it will, although I no longer have the camera for testing this function.

You can use the RMT-P1BT, shown in this video, for Bulb exposures. Just set the camera to Manual exposure mode, set the shutter speed to Bulb, and press and release the shutter button on the remote to start the exposure. Press it again after the time for the exposure has elapsed, to stop the exposure.

The Sony documentation for the a7C camera says: "You cannot use the following functions while [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] is set to [On]. Linking location information with a smartphone Power-save function" So, yes, it does appear to be mandatory to turn off the Location Linking option if you want to use the Bluetooth Remote control.

If you power the camera off and then back on again, the remote will connect to the camera again and can be used without pairing again, assuming no menu options have been changed on the camera. No, that remote uses infrared, and the a7C does not have an infrared sensor. You can use a Bluetooth remote, such as the RMT-P1BT.

Stupid question...Do you always leave it paired or just manually cut off Bluetooth from your camera

It depends on what I will be doing with the camera next. If I won't likely be needing the remote in the near future, I turn off Bluetooth, to save battery drain and to avoid conflicts with other menu settings. I only leave it paired if I'm pretty sure I will be using the remote again fairly soon.

This remote will work as shown with the a7C camera with any lens attached, including the 70-200 f2.8 II, though the power zoom function will work only with a Power Zoom lens, designated by the PZ notation in the name of the lens. Every other function of the remote should work as described in the video.

In my experience, the battery life has been excellent, though I haven't used the device heavily. The battery has lasted a long time between uses.

@@alexswhite ok the one I have now is using 2xaaa on the remote and 2xaaa on the reciever And I have to recharge them every single day if I take 3 real estate homes. So annoying.
