I have used braid for several years now on my spinning gear, it defiantly makes a big difference in the sensitivity, I had to go to a little more stiffer rod to get what I needed/wanted out of my set up. I just purchased some of that hi-vis braid, I have always used the green power pro so I am kind of excited to be able to see it better, I love the drop shot technique and anything I can do to improve on that is just an added bonus. Thanks Steve for all the amazing content !!

Agreed. It took me a long time to switch over, but between the sensitivity and sight of hi-vis I definitely have had much more success. Maybe it's because I'm just getting older. Lol.

For me, power pro is my favorite. Smoothness and castability. I've tried most available on the market. Started with spiderwire when black or white were the only choice.

If I were a tournament fisherman I would probably be mat at you for letting the cat out of the bag, but I'm just an average Joe. I have braid with a leader on all of my reels, both baitcasting and spinning except one. I use a baitcaster with straight floro on my cranking rod. Everythign else is spooled with 10 up to 50 lb braid and a leader. Awesome tips about spooling. I use the tape on the spool and the double Uni for the leader. Thanks.

Before spooling my spinning reel with braid, I use self adhesive elastic bandage instead of electrical tape. I make sure I wrap it tight and in the same direction that the reel rotates. Make sure you cut it to the exact width of your spool and you should be good. I also use the self adhesive elastic bandage for improving the grip of the rod and the color is almost an exact match to cork. When it comes to tying braid to a 100% fluorocarbon line, I use the blood knot and add a drop of superglue for a protective layer over the knot. I like to use KVD line & lure conditioner on my line as well to aid in smoother casting.🎣

I really started using braid on spinning reel because my team tournament partner would flip out every time I hooked a big bass off a bed with a 3” Slug-go on 4 lb line. Switched to 10 lb straight braid. Being super thin and limp most finesse techniques work well with straight braid.
@SteveRogersOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is so strong. Love it.

I am a huge fan of using braid on my spinning rigs. I'll often use a mono leader just so I can get a little bit of extra stretch. And I know this has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but judging by the shape of the cowl over your big motor, I'm guess that's probably a Bigfoot 60 2 stroke ELPTO motor. I say that, because those motors didn't change for 20 years and my Bass Buggy has one from 1997. The only difference is, the cover is gray and not black.
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
It’s a 50, but yes it is an ELPTO. Been running great so far and only had to do some minor maintenance on it. Keep my fingers crossed it keeps on going.
@LowBrowFishing Жыл бұрын
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Those are simple yet excellent motors. I've had to do some work on mine, but she still fires up and purrs like a kitten (when I make sure the fuel line is attached, that is). Not bad for a 25 year old motor.

Would be nice to do a comparison of braided lines. Castability, smoothness, durability as in fraying . how does any of these issues affect casting. I use braid on almost all of my spinning. I have for over a decade.

I am planning on adding braided line to my reels and was concerned with the slipping. Was going to try a bit of tape. Appreciate your thoughts. Best way to secure it? Best wishes
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I have had good luck with the tape. I know that some anglers use a drop of super glue, but I have never had an issue with placing a piece of tape to hold it on the spool.

Most of the time I tie a fluorocarbon leader on and change the pound test based on how clear the water is. I have also tied on a mono leader. Here is a video link that covers the type of knot I use. @@SteveRogersOutdoors sorry can I ask why not using braid straight through ?
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@KhaledKhaled-fo9zb excellent question. In really clear water, straight braid is easily seen by the fish and can turn away bites. If the water has some heavy stain to it or dirty, then I will use straight braid.

I just recently switched to 20lb braid on a spinning reel. I also coincidentally just started experimenting with weightless plastics (fished primarily hard baits for 20 years). I noticed the slack line doesn't bind tightly to the spool, specifically right after the cast but also while hopping a Texas rig 5" senko, and it ultimately ended up binding on itself mid-cast and creating a cut-worthy knot. Any tips on how to avoid this aside from using the non-reeling hand to keep tension on the slack line like you would with a baitcaster? I was very careful spooling the reel. I assume it's simply from inexperience but couldn't find a clear answer anywhere. Thanks in advance!

I heard fluorocarbon doesn’t hold knots well. Makes me worried about using it as a leader.
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
There are several knots that will hold really well. The double-uni, the FG or modified FG, and the Red Phillips knots are all great choices when going to a leader. It definitely takes some practice though.

I fish it without a leader most of the time. Fish aren’t that smart I think line visibility is way over rated.

Hey Steve What advice can you give me for river fishing. It's slow moving to stil water with littel to no structure. +- 2ft visibility max depth 12ft
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Even with little current, most fish will face upstream waiting for food to flow down. Whatever lure you are presenting, make sure it looks natural coming down with the current. Not too heavy, not too light. The fish will also move to the front side of a current break when actively feeding and slip to the protected side when resting. I do have a video on river fishing as well.

So even using wobbling spoons and say Mepps spinners you don't get line twist problems?
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
They can eventually cause the line to be less manageable and get some issues, but nothing as bad as mono or fluoro. Not a bad idea to still put a swivel in the equation if a particular lure has given lots of twist issues in the past.

I’m new to fishing. Why can’t you use braid from reel to lure? Why do people add fluorocarbon leader?
@SteveRogersOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the water clarity. If you are on a lake or river that has a lot of stain to the water and poor visibility, going straight to the lure with braid works great. People will put a fluoro or mono leader on when the water clarity is very good. This helps to reduce the chance that the fish will see the line. Excellent question! Thank you.
