Love it! I just played with my tombows for my junkjournal July balance piece- and I rediscovered the blending pen. Perhaps I’ll use them in my holiday!

Hi Katie, this video was very helpful…. I’m amazed at the way you lay out your artwork without sketching it in first without any guidance of a pencil. You just see it in your mind and go to work. You are amazing and talented 😍

Thank you so much Kathy 🥰 I haven't ever thought of it like that, but yes I think you're right! I have a layout idea in my head and just go for it 😄 Thank you for watching 🧡

genuine question, how is the blender different from water? if the pens can also be blended out with water?? 🤔 this spread looks fantastic, I love the way you combine the markers with colour pencils 🥰

Awesome question, I didn't even think of that!

Really great question! I've used water before and because the Tombows are water-based, it does work to soften the colours. I've just filmed a little experiment over on my Instagram stories comparing the blender pen with a water brush in my Royal Talens sketchbook! I think it would work much better on a different stock and with minimal water, because the brush meant I had a lot less control compared to the blender pen so the pigment was uneven and the paper struggled!

Thank you for sharing your tips and process. This would simplify my travel kit for sketching on the go. Wondering if a water brush would help with some of the blending, but I suppose it depends on the paper being used and how much water it can handle. Peace.

Thank you for watching! 😊 A water brush definitely works with blending out the Tonbows as they are water based, but as you say, it depends how much the paper can take! I've just tried it on my Royal Talens and compared it with the blender pen, and although it did blend out the Tombow and picked up the pigment, it left a lot of water marks and uneven colour on the paper. I expect it would work great much better in a sketchbook with thicker stock!

Are the colorless blender harder than the regular brush pens? I recently bought the blender, but it seems kinda dry and stiff compared to my other tombow pens. Wonder if it’s supposed to be like that or if mine is a bit dried out? 🤔 love your videos, I learn so much from you and that’s really inspiring 😄

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you find them helpful 🥰 I've just done a test with my blender pen, but it feels very similar to the coloured Tombows! On blank paper I can see the 'wet' of the blender pen when I put it down, so it does sound like yours is a bit dried out! It might be a little stiffer but not much. How do you find it when it blends with other colours, does it do much?

@@KatieMoody Thank you for answering 😊 sounds like I have to get a new one. I can barely see a hint of wet on blank paper and I really had to press it against the paper to even see anything. I felt like it didn’t do anything when I tried to use it with colors, so it doesn’t look anything like it did in your video when using it. I feel like it just messed up my paper and didn’t blend or soften any colors (I use a royal talens sketchbook too).
