@@CurtissB Yeah, I understand that, I'm just impressed at the fact that someone thought of this. I, personally, if I had to design something like the Wii, would have probably went with a convoluted design where you attach a lot of infrared sensors throughout your screen in order to detect an isosceles triangle of shaded lighting emanating from the front of the Wii Remote. Far, far more complicated, expensive, and likely to fail than the actual design.

CENSOR BAR LOL
@UahUahUah
@UahUahUah Жыл бұрын
The Wii sensor bar is essentially a long housing with two infrared diodes at either end. These lights are detected by the infrared sensor behind the lens on the top of your remote and then transmitted back to the console for it to determine where you're trying to aim. The candles emit the same infrared light and so they can act in place of actual diodes of light.

It works because the sensor bar is powered and gives off two infrared lights that the remote tracks to find it’s location. Since fire gives off infrared light, it works!
@Chevsilverado
@Chevsilverado Жыл бұрын
I always assumed it was reversed and the wii remote gave off an infrared light and the sensor bar picked it up and the wii processed it. That’s really cool how it really works and I guess the Wii remotes are a lot more than glorified tv remotes.
@thegreenbean6777
@thegreenbean6777 Жыл бұрын
But how does that transmit back onto the screen if nothing is plugged into the console?
@Chevsilverado
@Chevsilverado Жыл бұрын
@@thegreenbean6777 The Wii remote has a wireless connection to the console. When you press the buttons to do the pairing thing it sets up some sort of connection like Bluetooth. Idk why they did it like that instead of using the sensor bar as a sensor and having the IR come out of the remote, it certainly would’ve made the remote simpler and smaller, but that’s how it works. However the Wii remote does use accelerometer data to do gestures too so maybe processing all of that stuff together on the Wii remote was better than trying to send a stream of accelerometer data and IR data to the Wii console then processing it there. They could process and combine the data in the controller then send it all at once as a single stream. I guess it was a matter of latency and bandwidth.
@AcousticJammTheGamer
@AcousticJammTheGamer Жыл бұрын
@@Chevsilverado Okay, but while the remotes are wireless, the sensor bar is connected to the Wii. How does it work when it's NOT connected?
@Chevsilverado
@Chevsilverado Жыл бұрын
@@AcousticJammTheGamer the sensor bar isn’t what’s connected to the Wii remote and the cable coming out the back of the sensor bar is actually just only to power LEDs and no data is transferred to the Wii from the bar. The connection between the Wii remote and the Wii is through wireless chips not IR so the sensor bar serves only as a LED light source without any sort of sensing. So if you replace the bar with candles, the Wii remote senses the candles, processes it, then sends it to the Wii via a different wireless system. No data is transferred from the red thing at the end of the Wii remote to the sensor bar.

The bar is two points of infrared light. Heat gives off infrared wavelength. The remote has an infrared reader or receiver.

I remember having to point my wii remote towards the window on a sunny day to navigate the menu for Brawl when my sensor bar broke. The thought of using candles never crossed my mind...

if you ever go for skill point related goals again, it could be good for you to know that the way the game awards skill points is based on how well you've done previously. So if you take a brand new mii and play horribly in it's first game in a given sport, you only have to do slightly better than that to gain a whole bunch of skill points. Whereas is you play really well right off the bat, you have to do at least that well or better to keep gaining skill points, making it a lot harder for yourself

How it works is that the Wii remote uses the two infrared lights in its field of vision to determine where the cursor is, the distance between the two to determine how close your remote is (and you were too close because you kept fucking up that vacuum microgame in WarioWare), and the rotation to rotate the cursor.
