This has been debunked many times by many people including AVE and even chuck manufacturers. The way the chuck clicks back approximately 12 degrees after tightening is an artifact of the way the chuck works. Not a feature either by design or accident.

It works though !
@mikew19728 ай бұрын
Placebo I'm afraid. It's been scientifically tested and demonstrated. When subjected to objective rather than subjective tests it has been shown that it actually makes the chuck more likely to come loose. The manufacturers have explained that this is because turning the chuck backwards disenguages the locking mechanism of the chuck (if fitted) to allow you to loosen it and remove the bit.@@superkartwaldo

This isn't true, Many people including chuck manufacturers say this is not how you use them, Just tightening as you've always done is still the best way

Ok true or not I will be using this method as I have found it better than not using it, everyone to their own method, if people don’t think it works, well don’t use it stick to what you know. 👍

I'm not surprised that it's new to you. Since you just started using keyless chucks.

@@superkartwaldo I've started using cordless drills back in 20th century. And when click chucks came out I used them since. You using them correctly but with extremely fast stop drills now days get loose anyway. So no matter what you should check if it's tight constantly.

this is a myth 🤦🤦 what your doing is unlocking it and its more likely to come loose when the drill comes to a sudden stop

@superkartwaldo no no it really doesn't. Have tried it wasn't impressed and then watched AVE's video about it and it all made sense. There's a reason manufacturer's don't tell you to do it

That is a fantastic tip, it's a shame that the manufacturers do not put it in the manual. Like you I find it so frustrating when the drill bit works loose Many many thanks Chris

If the chuck has a central screw deep inside it, it can be possible to remove it and replace with a proper keyed chuck. I've done this with one of my drills. I'm by no means certain if this is universally possible, but it certainly worked with one of my drills, which was a keyless full-size mains drill I'd stupidly purchased without checking what kind of chuck it had.
@superkartwaldo8 ай бұрын
I’m sure you can change from keyless to chuck key chuck if you so desire 👍
@Marty2011uk8 ай бұрын
More of a dead zone. Bit is locked after 2 clicks from turning chuck anti-clockwise. Turning it clockwise it clicks, turning it anti-clockwise again it clicks but bit is still locked. Hex shank drill bits stay in place.

It’s a little hard to tell what you are doing. If you are further tightening the chuck until it clicks, then that’s correct, when you tighten the chuck further until it clicks and you can no longer turn it you’re engaging pawls In the chuck which remain engaged until you loosen it. There is a myth going around that if you tighten the chuck as far as you can with the pawls clicking and then back it off one click, you’ve locked the chuck but all you’ve done is disengage the pawls and your drillbit is probably going to come loose at some point. Den of Tools looked into this myth with several tool manufacturers and reported it as false. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIDSXmBqeM9rgaMsi=ko3rpcccqP253Zhk

Hopefully you will put out a correction vid. Or at least a clarification vid that you think this only works for the chuck in the video. Putting out largely incorrect videos, even if you think the idea works for you, will lose you viewers. For nearly everyone who actually tests this, it won't work.
@superkartwaldo8 ай бұрын
Well quite a few of my mates have tried it and believe it works better than the normal method, I have said in lots of comments to other posts that maybe it isn’t a definite fix and may not be correct, however, I am using this method and lots of people are, but people can make up their own minds just like you have. 👍
