Wow, brilliant rescue on the pink dress. I love how you don't give up. Tinkerers unite! And *mind blown* on that woven/knitted elastic demonstration - I had no idea you could cut knitted elastic like that. MERRY MERRY!

Brilliant hack to the black and white pants. The elastic at the shortened pant hem and styled with chunky boots - you nailed it! No old lady style for you!

Simple change that made a huge difference. I always learn something from your content. I have tried cutting the width of a woven elastic and when it failed I just thought that all elastic would behave that way. Thanks! Have a very merry holiday 🎄

Have a wonderful holiday! I've always made my elastic bands the way you described, I got my first serger in the 80's and realized I could have a band that doesn't curl, twist, or move by doing it like that. Everyone thought I was crazy but it also saves time. I do, however, almost always use woven elastic. Since the edge was serged (4 threads) it doesn't matter if you nick off some, it's well enclosed in the thread. I prefer woven for the strength. If I'm making a lightweight something then I might use knitted elastic but I find it doesn't hold my pants up very well as a waistband. For cuffs it's fine. Give the dogs big hugs from me and kiss Claude.

I do sometimes have to make my waistbands smaller due to the knitted elastic being less strong but then it's easier for me to sit down and eat 🤣Claude wishes you happy holidays Charlotte and so do I 🎄

I love how you altered the look of the garments with elastic... and really appreciated learning how the different types behaved. I generally prefer knitted elastic as it stretches better, but for some reason never considered it could be cut lengthwise. I have a roll of wide knitted and wouldn't you know it, thought I had to buy some narrower for a project. Well duh !! Glad I didn't buy much. Slash/boat necks don't flatter me AT ALL, but look cute on you, by the way.
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
I've done that exact same thing with my wider knitted elastic. Too big? cut it down, saves on having to buy three or four different sizes. 🤗

Hi Ginni , I used the nani iro dress/ top pattern from book. I split the side seam by about 6inches. hemed it with a one inch turn. I added elastic to the middle of a roulough tube. Then threaded it to the front and back and tied it into a knot at the sides,..difficult to explain, but looks great and breaks up hem and gives a slimmer look. Another thing to try is casings in the back just below the knee and add elastic to pull the back in a bit. ...

If you’re ever bored - would you consider making another Chris woods top, but with a neckline hack? I find that it feels like it’s choking me and my plump neck sits on it 🤣🤣 But I’m too novice to figure out how to fix that problem myself. Could I just scoop it?
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
because of the way that neckline is made "scooping " it is going to be a challenge BUT since you ask, yes!! I will do a tutorial on how to lower that neckline. I've been thinking about It since I first read your comment and I think I came up with a solution. I'll work on it over my little break. Thanks for the suggestion 🤗

Not sure if you measure your elastic to your hem and then steam and then stretch to sew to hem or not. Can you let me know. And Merry Christmas!
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
Sorry SIstertotwo I wasn't very clear on that in the video. I cut the elastic about 20% smaller than the hem of the garment then stretch the elastic to sew it on and THEN steam the heck out of it to bring the elastic back to it's original size.

Elastic trick question - is the circumference of the elastic the same as the circumference of the elastic? The steaming is the reason it is drawn in a bit? Thanks!
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
no, sorry MJ I wasn't very clear on that part of it. I cut the elastic about 20% smaller than the dress hem then stretch it to sew then steam it back to its; original length.
