3 items of note- 1: Your platen for the printer is anodized aluminum- use a plastic putty knife vs anything steel on the surface- 2: when you use the UV cure light please use an enclosure- reflected and ambient UV (Although it is much less) can be an issue (As well make sure the spectrum of the cure light is the same range as the printer UV source). 3: Bravo on this process- its a great medium for replicating and prototyping! (And I agree with DAHIGI about using the platinum investment) I personally use this for my master then silicone a mold for shooting waxes. Bravo and good content!

Thanks and the only problem with using a placitc putty knife was that I ruined it getting the other parts off so all I had left was my metal one haha. I know the wax resin is a lot easier to get off from what I have seen but this stuff, I have to hammer it off 😅. I do agree that a UV bath would be better with a different light setup but I was given 3 of these grow lights from a friend that stopped growing so I just use them for now. I will get a better setup going once I get moved to my new place. 😁

grow media is tricky to burn out properly when you have very fine detailing. it's best to use platinum investment so your final burnout stage can reach 1800 degrees. it's also less apt to break off small pieces when your pour the metal

Good stuff, I've been experimenting with casting resin prints for the last few months. I've gotten some good results, but I still need to get some things like a proper oven and vacuum table. I've been using the Form 2 and it produces amazing prints, they even have specific resins made to burn out of molds that are mostly wax.
@GomeowCreations4 жыл бұрын
Do you have any helpful tips? 😁
@00011theman4 жыл бұрын
@@GomeowCreations Off the top of my head, adding sprues and gates are critical in getting metal to flow into small areas of the mold, like prongs for setting gems. I've actually started importing the ring models into Meshmixer and added sprues and gates directly into the model so that I don't have to add them post-print. Porosity is the largest problem that I have so I think having a strong vacuum table for degassing and pouring is important. I would love to see a Blender or even Rhino tutorial for basic ring designs, they both have steep learning curves that I'm still trying to figure out. There's some jewelry specific addons for Rhino that makes ring designs super easy but they cost thousands of dollars.
@00011theman4 жыл бұрын
@Vincent Patrick Yes, you can swap out standard and casting resins on the printer just by changing the cartridge and tank. A vacuum table would certainly be the best case, it would probably help with the porosity I was having. I was simply pouring the cast while trying to introduce as little air as possible and then vibrating the mold to get any residual air out. Like I said, I had some porosity that I had to grind out of the final parts and a vacuum table would have probably helped prevent that.
@00011theman4 жыл бұрын
@Vincent Patrick You'll want something to catch the resin or wax as it burns out, that's the case with any lost wax casting. I just had to experiment and see how long it took to fully burn out the size mold I was making.
@00011theman4 жыл бұрын
@Vincent Patrick No, I'm using a Form 2 SLA printer so I have to swap out the cartridge and the vat to match the cartridge. Anything that has a higher melting point than that you plan on burning out at would work. So most iron based metals, steels, aluminum would be cutting it close. I'm just using a homemade furnace made out of firebricks so I let the small amount of resin drip out onto the charcoals below. Most of it gets turned to ash by the end but inside a proper furnace, you would want something to catch any drips.

I am a jeweller and I am looking for a 3D Printer to print castable waxes. I am currently looking at the Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra - would this work for what I need it for? Most jewellers in the trade say to me to get high quality prints you have to spend thousands for a very high quality printer. What's your views on this as you also use a entry level printer?
@GomeowCreations5 күн бұрын
Budget review printers definitely work especially nowadays with the high detail that they can put out. You also need to look into the castle resins that you can use or you can just print using normal resins and make molds from them. If you make silicone molds from normal resin you do have to coat it in something (it's been a long time since I've looked into this so I don't remember exactly what it is) but if you don't do that the normal resin reacts with silicone making it not cure properly. Here's a video that I did on Lost wax casting using budget printers and resin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOrkJ-Mba6Cr7s

So is resin printed parts wearable or not? I found sources say it will definitely kill me, other say it wont...
@GomeowCreations2 жыл бұрын
It's really hit and miss depending on the resin you are using and the conditions it's going to be in. For the most part you don't want it being in contact with your skin for too long. This resin cures using UV light so that light can only cure so deep into the part so there is a chance that the uncured resin can seep out of it over time. Some reasons are better at curing all the way through it's usually the ones that are translucent. And some of them aren't as porous as others so it doesn't seep through it.

I had an Idea: using my Rhino software i use my 3D printer make a positive jewelry piece asvwell as a negative of the same as a mold. If the mold is about 6/8 around dimentionally I can use a PRECIOUS METAL CLAY and a klin. Precious metal clay hardens. Once that happens klin firing is between 5% - 15% shrinkage for the organic clay to burn away leaving metal. I can place the Precious metal Clay in a Delft clay investment cylinder does that seem workable? A 3D printed mold negative from my original jewelery print, Precious metal clay folded in removed once dryed hard -- placed in a clay investment tubing and klin fired??

if you wanted to make this ring in sizes 6 -12 it's going to just take the same amount of time that it would to print one size 12. this is because the printer prints in layers all at once all the way across the entire build plate. So basically whatever the tallest object is is going to be the time frame for everything.

You talk way more than it's needed. Try writting a script, or reharse what you'll like to say, then record, and cut unnecessary chatter time on the editing. I feel like you have good instructive things to say, but the same could have been said with way less and more precise words. PS: Is not a hate comment, sorry for being rough, you sound like a person who knows what he's talking about, but making it simpler and more digestable adds value to your content.
@GomeowCreations3 жыл бұрын
I have tried a script and it takes a over long time for me to come up with along with me having to deal with all the times messing up when reading it. Doing voice over after shooting everything ads about 6-8hours to my editing but makes a shorter overall video for the views. Talking as I work cuts down on my editing time dramatically but makes the videos much longer. In short I'm switching back over to voice over to make sure stuff is more to the point without extra fluff. 😅👍
