I've been watching the progress of your hand for a while now without commenting and your updates have always been a bright spot in my day. The level of dexterity you can get with a fully analog prosthetic is amazing. And watching your hand get sleeker and more reliable with each iteration is awe inspiring!

I loved the grip selector! If you can bring back a bit of that without making it too bulky, or heavy, I say go for it. Once your done tinkering with it, you might even get some decent use out of it before moving on to the next itteration. 😆

Right! All this work refining the current iteration just to use it for a month and start coming up with the new new version.

Very nice. Impressive how it keeps getting smaller. It looks incredible. So sleek. I love this channel. It's just cool to see what he creates. I think the grip patterns seemed to be a helpful function and would be worth adding to this version.

Maybe you can add more or more difficult grip patterns than in the old one. Please keep that old one, as well. It has that awesome steampunk style. The new design looks really sleek and futuristic. Both are great.

I think having the 2 position selector is well worth the extra parts. Having extra positions would be nice but 2 is a good compromise.

It’s amazing how far prosthetics have come. So much effort in the past was wasted on hiding it or making it blend in.
@missingpartsclub Жыл бұрын
That's really true! I'm more of the mindset, at least for upper limb, accept that it isn't your natural hand and make it the most cool looking compact techno functional device that you can. Make it something that when people see you out and about that they aren't looking at you going awe, youre missing parts, and more, dang! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen!
@BayLeafff Жыл бұрын
@@missingpartsclub I can't speak for everyone but I get the sense that young people my age will strongly agree with that! If I ever lose a few parts you can be sure I'd be getting something that makes me look like the terminator. You're going to improve so many lives and make a lot of people feel better about their missing pieces when you clear the regulatory hurdles and get your hand to market. Best of luck mate! It is fascinating to see mechanical prosthetics being developed in this day and age with the technology we have. It gives those who never had the chance to utilize their full physical potential the ability to do so.
@noodsdood6977 Жыл бұрын
The best part of making it so that the kit will have sequential fingers (to my ear) is that even if that's not someone's style, they can simply choose NOT to adjust the springs to length, and then all of the fingers will bend at once, just like the original. Very Cool!

Every time I see your progress and ongoing ideas my brain just melts from merely trying to comprehend the creative process you undergo. Since I'm bad at complimenting, consider this a one.
@benhaylock Жыл бұрын
That splay is phenomenal. The distance between the fingers is so natural even if exaggerated to allow lack of mechanical finger mushiness to link fingers together. Much more refined. I think letting the pinky first and following fingers close after would be more natural too. I'd try link the sequence to pinky/ring then middle/index to give your fingers quicker flow and less moving parts, but that's just me.

It's looking really good man! Having a couple of grip patterns seems useful without going overboard. Making the fingers close sequentially definitely adds a little bit of flare to the whole thing and makes it look a bit more anthropomorphic and less robotic! You seem very happy in this video, it's lovely to see. Very much a naïve and uneducated commenter here so take with a grain of salt, especially as I'm aware others have already mentioned using electronics; but have you had it suggested that the grip pattern selection be controlled by electromyography? It feels like being able to switch pattern mid movement without having to perform an entire other movement would be the kind of option that would compliment the speed, strength and control that your otherwise entirely mechanical construction has over conventional servo prosthetics. Something like tensing and releasing a residual muscle to adjust the pattern like a sliding scale, or more like your current implementation where you cycle through them one at a time. Just a thought, though I suspect your considerable experience and efforts have already yielded this thought at some point! Thanks for your videos.

Looking again at this product, it looks like a highly niche segment for just this application. A custom build. Can't be used as a mass produced part. What if the person loses just one finger or the entire hand. What if that finger is the thumb, which is not present in this model. What if there is other damage towards the elbow. It is amazing and great achievement but not as a selling product, but as a service. You could create custom pieces for each individual, just like dwarf or goblin craftsmen in sci fi / fantasy movies. A sort of steampunk style.
