Welcome back to the woodshop! We are just wrapping up a beautiful White Oak hutch so we are preparing all the pieces for finish. We wanted to demonstrate how we apply the Odie's Oil Universal finish mixed with the Titanium White pigment that Odie's Oil offers. We love the line of finishes that Odie's Oil makes and we use them on almost all of the pieces of furniture that we build. If you learned something today or got inspired to do something yourself, please hit that like and subscribe button! We will see you on the next one!

Very informative video. Great content and gives me some real cool ideas I hadn't thought about. Camera work to show end result comparison = NOT so good. And I really wanted to see that much more clearly. Yeah, I know - I'll just have to try it myself. Ok, I will. Thanks!

Great video. Can you do the same finish with red oak?

Do you have any suggestions for Red Oak? I don't want the color tone to look very yellowish pink.

This method might achieve that. As always I would make a test sample so you can see what it would look like!

Thanks for this demo! I’m working on a project with quarter sewn white oak at the moment and considering this option. Did you sand to 220 for this application?

Hey thanks for watching! I did sand to 220 for this sample. I usually sand to 220 and some times up to 500 however Odie's Oil suggests stopping at 220 for the best results with their finish. We love how the white pigment works with white oak! Good luck with your project! Let us know how it goes.

Great video! I'm considering doing the same thing for my current project. Have you used other Odie products? I called the Odie # this am and they recommended the "super duper oil" w/ pigment, I'm wondering the actual difference?

Hey thanks for the comment! I would listen to whatever they recommend, from my understanding the pigments will work with any of the oils they offer! I have used the super penetrating oil as a first coat then used a pigment in their universal finish on top of it and it looked great! Especially on woods that have checking like white oak does!

Can you tell me what grit did you sand your piece in preparation for Mr. Cromwell's? If not staining, Odie's website says 1000 grit. I am afraid that is too fine. I am working with red oak veneer doors. Thanks for the help.

Hey thanks for asking! I sand most of my pieces of furniture to 250. Sometimes (depending on the material) I'll sand to 500 but never over that. This piece of white oak in the sample was sanded to 250 using the festool rotax sander and the finish turns out lovely!

Thanks for the quick response! I forgot to tell you I loved your video! Most videos are full of so much rhetoric but yours is concise and informative. This is my first time using Odie's as I have always used Varathane for 30 years+, but the project I'm working on really calls for a different finish. I'm really excited to try Odie's and you helped a lot to take the fear out of the product switch. Thanks again for the help. God's blessings to you!

Very interesting video. No need for the background music. It’s annoying when trying to watch you work and hear your comments.

Don't the proportions of pigment and oil matter? You just eyeballed the measurement, so how is it consistent from piece to piece?
@schoonercreekdesigns
@schoonercreekdesigns Жыл бұрын
To be honest I have always eyeballed it within reason and have never had problems. It would be a good idea to keep a set of measuring spoons in the shop and document the ratios you use if you're needing to put multiple coats on a piece in different stages to keep it consistent. This pigment and oil combo from Odie's is incredibly forgiving and you can continue to re apply until you achieve your desired color!

It matters if you are finishing several pieces that need exact same color. I ordered several samples of Mr. Cornwalls Colours in order to my preferred end color. I wanted to see a mahogany, purple (yes, purple), and dark brown. I used measuring spoons to adjust the Colours. If you open one Colour and are not mixing, exact measurements aren't necessary.
