these are so cute. i googled cigarette cards and you were partly right, they are trading cards that were issued by tobacco companies to stiffen cigarette packages and it was also for advertising the cigarette brands.

The cards also came in packets of tea. You could get books that you could put the collections in, there were a number of themes including flowers, animals, and many more.

I always enjoy what you make. Thanks for explaining clusters. Chesterfield cigarettes used to have little cards in them. It was to protect the cigarettes from moisture. I had family members who smoked when in my younger years. I think Raleigh did too. Grandma collected those. The history is interesting. Those old cards are worth money now.

I so enjoy watching you and your thought processes. It makes me want to grab papers and start crafting every time I watch. You inspire us! I found this info on Wikipedia. Very interesting. Cigarette cards are trade cards issued by tobacco manufacturers to stiffen cigarette packaging and advertise cigarette brands. Between 1875 and the 1940s, cigarette companies often included collectible cards with their cigarettes. Started in US then to other countries. They depicted the styles in interests of the era. I had never heard of them before. TFS and Stay Safe. God Bless, Linda

There were many different series of cigarette cards - flowers, butterflies, trees, various sports and they were very popular. Sometimes books were produced eg. I have a book of butterflies, the book contained information about each butterfly with a line drawing then the cigarette card was stuck on top. Children used to swop the cards and often there would be a limited number of some cards to encourage people to keep buying that brand so their children had a better chance of collecting the cards they wanted

1870s Cigarette cards were first produced in the 1870s as a means to stiffen flimsy cigarette packs. Initially they were blank until an American businessman thought advertisements should be placed on them. Soon, companies began putting everyone from kings and queens to actresses and baseball players on cards.

I have tried making a sort of vellum. I saw someone taking a bit of baby oil on the paper that they had already put their print and even did it on some plain printer paper. After it soaked up the oil it looked like velum. Have you ever tried anything like that?

Hi Edith, these are great! I have a question about digitals. I’m a longtime scrapbooker but I’m new to junk journals & digital papers. Do you have to have a certain type of printer to print digitals - or a certain type of ink? I really want to give it a try but I’m not a computer person so it makes me nervous. Thank you so much for your help, I’ve enjoyed your channel for years. 🌷

No special printer. I have a $24 WalMart HP color printer and a $300 laser jet one and they both print digital a the same. And I joined the HP ink service and it is very inexpensive to print as much as I do. And I print tons. Hope this helps.
