Also, if you check the documentation pages from Allegorithmic you can find a Mental Ray MILA preset created by them, all you need to do then is import the preset to your shelf. As Mike said, this process is pretty long and tbh, very difficult too.

When the cube had the texture on it in Substance Painter, it definitely had some specularity. Does Substance Painter have a default spec map value or did you actually lose a spec map when you exported to Maya? I know that Maya also applies a default spec value to objects the same way but I'm just curious

Hey Mike, many thanks for the info. Would you by chance be able to do a short series that addresses this issue for specific renderers? Starting with one for Maya Mental Ray, that would be amazing :)

I really thought you'd have shown how to implement the textures in Arnold. For some reason nothing looks the same when it's imported in Arnold i'm obviously doing something wrong and cant figure out what it is.
@nixon62168 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial though I learned something.
@MHTutorials3D8 жыл бұрын
You are not doing anything wrong. Lighting is different in Substance painter, textures respond differently etc

@kaidkyoung42986 жыл бұрын
do you know why when i applied texture in Maya, part of texture just turned to black with a few stroke of texture showed up?????
@Alfoncos7 жыл бұрын
What is considered a texture set in Painter? Is it a UV map?
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
Not really. A texture set in SP is a group of faces ( quads or tris ) on a model that have been identied to get the same material. So for example a bottle with a cap. The bottle ( glass ) would be a texture set and the cap ( metal ) would be another
@EarleSara6 жыл бұрын
I've mapped out the UVs for a glass window and wooden frame in Maya. They are separate objects but exported as one with different shaders applied. Substance painter seems to recognize one shader (and won't let me texture objects separately). What is the best way to import these two meshes so I can work with them together but be able to texture separately?
@MHTutorials3D6 жыл бұрын
Apply basic shaders to each component that should receive a different texture in SP. Then combine mesh in Maya and bring it into SP

i really need your help ,i have Substance Painter 1.3 and i don't have export to v ray or anything, i only have options to export to game engines is there a fix? by the way i tried to export the texture images and place them in v ray manually but i don't now where to put the metallic texture and it is also exporting wrong , it is exporting the metallic texture as white or black color
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
There is not really a lot I can do about options not being available in older version of SP. Try building your own export list and pick the ones you need

Well im not sure what size the textures are im just using smart materials and materials from Substance at 2046 resolution... How can i tell if the textures are large enough.? or how can i scale them up... thank you for your quick response...
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
2K maps should be fine but I would check the scale of the models though. ( You might also want to check the model tesselation )
@edenkeeping22985 жыл бұрын
when creating a texture to go on arnold rendered glass, the texture is incredibly faint and is almost completely transparent, why might this be?
@cine-ish4 жыл бұрын
You could just apply arnold materials instead

Hey Mike love all of your videos... question. I'm trying to create a wild west town using maya 2016 and Unreal engine 4 for a game project im doing for my environment art portfolio next year (still a student in my final semester) I spent basically the summer and this past fall semester (between classes and work) designing and building about 17 buildings for this town... literally plank by plank. Now my texturing skill is very new (substance painter) however when i started the UV'ing process and brought my first model into substance the materials were all blurry (which was very frustrating to say the least) I know as modelers especially in on a team or in a pipeline we should not fall in love with our models (at least this early on in the game) But i really dont want to or have the time to rebuild all of these buildings... and I cant find hardly any tutorials on architectural modeling. Dont suppose you want to do an old wild west building from start to finish Maya to Substance and exporting to UE4 do ya...? lol Thanks for everything you do... You have been a great inspiration and motivator for my modeling so far...
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
Michael, the textures being blurry are caused by the scale of the buildings or the scale of the textures. If your building is 50 feet wide and your texture is 5 inches that is your problem
