Bjorn, thanks for making these videos. Making a vertical and horizontal reference on the photo is a great idea that I have recently put into practice. Prior to this I would use the pupil of the eyes, the chin, and the bottom of the nose as a reference. The problem with that, though, was sometimes I would get the tilt of the head wrong and I would need to start over. The vertical and horizontal reference lines have completely eliminated that problem. I have used the Accurasee Proportional Divider for about 2 years. It is a very useful tool and I have saved a lot of time using it. The great part is how economical it is. It is so economical that I have several, one for the studio and others for my plain air, charcoal, pencil, and pan-pastel kits. I agree with your last statement. It is best to do as much of the drawing on your own and use the proportional divider to check. I think as an artist I learn the most by drawing first and making corrections with the proportional divider only as needed.

This tool works fantastically. I'm a non-artist teaching myself to draw using many of the excellent resources available online. This product was purchased to get me on the journey and minimize my frustration. With the use of this tool and reference lines/points, I'm able to transform my reference photo into a drawing that looks passingly like the photo. My dog looks like my dog and not like an alien dog. My cat looks like my cat and not a whack-cat. It is teaching me to see and build the important eye-hand coordination--and it makes drawing both approachable and fun. The tool is well-designed and well made.

I recommend measuring a lot to begin with to avoid frustrations and giving up....Then measure less, and less over time....Keeping on drawing is the main aim....You'll need measuring tools less and less as you develop your geometry eye.
