I've had my 550D since 2010, it was a lot of fun and was ground breaking for its time, I learned a lot from it but quickly realised that its image quality lagged behind its modern competitors, much respect to the 550D though!

Bro it holds up today incredibly well for photo and video. 1080p. No stabilization but the image with pro lighting is phenomenal.

I love my 550D so much. I wouldn't call it soft at all, it's really down to the lens you put on it. If you use the stock one then sure, but the perfect combo is with the EF 40mm lens, as it's not only super lightweight and affordable, but also has incredible optics. The shaky video and poor low-light performance are the only thing I find lacking in this camera these days. And the crop sensor. Although I do like it. But sometimes it's just too narrow so it'd be better to have a full-frame camera with crop option instead. In any case, a cracking little camera that's easy to take with you and that can take really good pictures, still by today's standards. I actually tried upgrading to a 6DMkII but it was so heavy it hurt my fingers, so I'm back with the 550D and thinking about getting the RP, as this one has a nice light weight too but as a bonus a ton of good features. Meanwhile, the 550D is absolutely fine.

Facts on that "most people use there phone to watching things, nobody's really gonna notice 720 vs 1080 or even 1080FHD vs 2 or 4k" don't need to spend the money if you dont need to

im watching it on a notebook, and despite most videos i watch are aviable in 4K, im watching in 720p for battery reasons or 1080p if i want "quality"/a sharp image. But on the TV, well, if its aviable in 4K and my TV is 4K, damn why not.

I do notice when it's 4K but I'm not bothered tbh. 720 and 1080 are perfectly fine.

Nice video. These are the cameras I own as well. I agree, you can still get quality video with the t2i and the price is very low now. I actually still prefer it for photography over the gh5.

T2i was my 1st dslr. My friend had the 7d and made fun of my camera. We got hired on gigs together and the client didn't care and couldn't tell the difference. It bothered him. Lmao.. I'm on a GH5 too. After the t2i I bought the t3i, 60D, 6D, GH5.

Great video. I have a t2i I've used since 2010 and really want to get into higher budget music videos after learning so much but the other cameras at the g85 price point are just... Too amateur for me. BMPCC4k is what I want extremely bad but I just can't justify spending 3k+ for a low level set up with how much I currently make. The upgrade is just too high even though that's the base for amateur filmmaking these days. Still love my t2i though, it's served me very well.

you basically only talk about video. In my opinion the 550D is still an excellent photo camera in its class, ofc its video features are behind, but thats pretty ok if we think about the fact its soon 12 years old. I tried a friends new EOS 250D, well, considering i paid years ago already only 80€ for a 2nd hand, heavily used 550D body which is more or less as good as the much newer 250D +kit lens which costed 650€ in 2020... Even the 850D isnt much of an upgrade when it comes to high iso performance, thats where you have to go at least to a 70D/7D/6D (Mk2), and full frame especially! I hope to get soon my hands on a fair priced 6D Mk2 since im not really happy with the 550Ds low light performance and the much bigger problem: i cant work anymore with this annoying crop. I would love to take my 50mm 1.4 as main lens, but on crop its not a allrounder anymore, and as i saw, only the higher end full frame bodies delivers anyway a noticable better high ISO performance (and the consumer/beginner models stick "sucks" like my 550D does)

Please show the 550d some love and give it a proper lens, it's not fair to make comparisons with a decade old $100 kit lens. Canon F1.4 50mm perhaps or anything from Sigma. I like your video. I would love to see your Lego movie, it looks fantastic.

Hear hear. Perfect lens for it is the EF 40mm lens. Or even vintage high quality lenses with adaptors. The kit lens is really not good enough.

Great video man! I am getting into photography and filmmaking using my dads 550D as it is there and while I’m tempted by the Fuji film x t20 as a good bargain can’t beat paying nothing for something that I’m mostly only using at the weekend

Hi! Thinking on buying T2i now for video calls (online counselling). Is there a chance of it overheating if used 6 hours non-stop with a power cable? Do you have to press the on button with every session? Overall, do you think it is a good idea?

Light it well, expose it well, frame it well etc. - the 550D can still hold up surprisingly well as long as you accept it's limitations (especially with poor low light performance and somewhat softer image). You can still get a decent image out of it and if you do it well, people won't even realise you're using an older camera. DSLRGuide on KZbin was using the 600D for professional work until very recently and it looked amazing (and he may still be using it too).
