cool ideas! With the new chord detection in Studio One 4 you don't even need the upgraded version of melodyne :) You can now automatically detect chords in an audio file and throw the information on a midi track (which you can init with playing just the same single cords and they get transposed/transformed to/by the detected chords...)

it's great but in 5.2 it can't be set uip since on a mac there's no option to receive from iac bus 1 in either send...or in receive..simply my soundcard midi plus the name of the keyboard....any thoughts for using this principle in 5.2?

Why wouldn't you bounce stems from Reason as audio and then mix in studio one? Isn't that faster than setting up all the retire channels, record midi, bounce to new audio track, then find your mix channel is split in 2 channels? I am trying hard to understand what the advantage is??
@velanche8 жыл бұрын
That last part where you osed Melodyne to convert audio to MIDI. Looks like the Essentials version that came with S1 Pro isn't gonna cut it. Are there alternatives to upgrading to the full version that can do that hat trick? That upgrade solely for that one feature ain't cheap. Thanks.
@audioknocker8 жыл бұрын
yes that's correct. the polyphonic conversion is only part of the upgraded melodyne package which unfortunately is not included in S1 by default. in terms of other ways to do it, I don't know that many other plugins off the top of my head. MIDI Guitar 2 by Jam Origin is a polyphonic audio to midi convertor (intended for guitar leads and chords). I have it and it works fairly well.. but not sure how it would handle something other than a guitar. Some of the other DAWs can do it too I believe (like Ableton). Doesn't help much though if you don't have access to it. Maybe some of the other viewers know of other options? Either way even with the upgraded Melodyne the technique is not always perfect like in the video. Often you'l have to use your ears to tweak some of the notes and put them in the right place. So if all else fails I'd say fallback on those ears and work it out in the piano roll then load it up.

OK, so I'm a total newbe. You set up the virtual midi cord thing on your Apple computer, and gave us a link for info to do it on Windows. Awesome...just what I need! I have Windows 10, Studio One 3 Pro, and the links you gave just confused me. So Is it correct to assume that with the most current version of S1 pro I need to buy or get a plugin to use Chorder the way you described? Can you help out a Windows user?
@audioknocker8 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you have Studio One 3 Pro or greater that will have the Chorder tool built in. It also has instruments like Presence and Mai Tai included so you wouldn't need to buy anything extra to use this technique unless you wanted to buy other 3rd plugins because you like them better. Unfortunately I don't have a windows machine so I can't help you with the virtual midi setup for that. There should be some other videos on KZbin that explain it. I would recommend though if you are new to hold off on this technique for awhile. The virtual midi cables is more of an advanced trick and there is so much to explore in S1 before you get bogged down in routing issues!

@audioknocker9 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Earwood yes you can do something kinda similar with a multi-instrument however it is much more self-contained and not nearly as flexible. With this approach you can send midi to *any* track in the whole song and also record midi differently for each track if you desire. But really just whatever works for you workflow. Thanks for watching!

@audioknocker5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support! Yeah sorry I think KZbin must have taken down the annotation on the vid that use to be there earlier. But for Windows I'd recommend LoopBe1. nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html It gives you a simple, easy to use virtual midi port that can accomplish the same thing as the IAC driver on Mac. Good luck!

Hey audioknocker while I'm playing chord on multiple track can I trigger the root noot on the 3 track while I'm playing the chord on track 1and 2. ????
@audioknocker8 жыл бұрын
yes this is possible! instead of having the third track input from the IAC Bus 1 Receive just have it receive from your keyboard as normal. So... Chord Track -> Keyboard Receive & Send to IAC Bus 1 Instrument 1 -> IAC Bus 1 Receive Instrument 2 -> IAC Bus 2 Receive Instrument 3 -> Keyboard Receive make sure monitoring is turned on all tracks and the 3rd instrument will only play the root notes while 1+2 play the full chords. hope that helps!

You may have saved me: Trying to use Reason with tools like Kirnu Cream, Xronomorph (check it out if's free...), Microtonic, Scaler (best chords tool on the planet, from PluginBoutique), etc. and couldn't route midi like most DAWs do as a MIDI EFFECT. Have to try the one of the 3 Windows virtual MIDI port tools you suggested and see if I can then route the MIDI out from , say, Cream on track 1, and back in to a VST I'm monitoring on track 2...
@audioknocker6 жыл бұрын
I have not tried this technique in Reason but yes you may be able to leverage virtual MIDI ports to do some routing workarounds to use those VSTs you've listed. Let us know how it goes. Good luck with it!

yes you can do something similar with a multi-instrument however it is much more self-contained and not nearly as flexible. With this approach you can send midi to any track in the whole song and also record midi differently for each track if you desire. With the combined instrument you're stuck with the same midi track driving all the instruments. Also things like automation per instrument tend to be a lot easier when you don't have a bunch of combined instruments. But really just whatever works for you workflow. Thanks for watching!

The chord track in v4 is very powerful for sure. You can still use this type of technique with 3rd party plugins (plugin boutique scaler, captain chords etc) if you want. The nice thing about Studio One maturing is now there are so many options for creativity! Personally I do gravitate towards towards the v4 chord track.

Use the loopmidi software for create one or more virtual midi ports inside the loopmidi and then, run studio one 3 and put configuration the same of the tutorial, but adding a midi port, you use a loopmidi port inside the studio one 3. I runnig this software and no have any problem. My system is windows 7 x64 and studio one 3. Loopmidi can run in system x86 and x64. I hope you can use this method for getting more ideas in your music production. Big hug

Why didn’t you create a multi-instrument within S1 instead of opening IAC busses?
@audioknocker7 жыл бұрын
yes you can do something similar with a multi-instrument however it is much more self-contained and not as flexible. With this approach you can easily send midi to any instrument in your entire song and also record midi differently for each track instead of a combined lane like in a multi. But really just whatever works for you workflow. Thanks for watching!
@Camolismo7 жыл бұрын
but in a multi you can add/remove any instrument/effect, modify the dataflow in any point, reconfigure the tree or whatever and all within S1. To me it looks far more simple and flexible.
@audioknocker7 жыл бұрын
depends on your goals. you can only have a midi lane for the entire multi-instrument as a whole opposed to unique midi lanes per each instrument . sometime you may want different/varying note data per instrument but still have the benefit of a shared chord bank to pull from for example if I have 10-15 midi instruments in my song and I want to be able pull/record chords from a common chordset into any of them at any point in the track I'd have to combine every instrument into one giant multi or use multiple chorder tools per track/multi and keep them in sync. certainly use the multi-instrument if it works better for you. for layering a couple of instruments together multis are good...for sharing one chorder tool for many tracks throughout your song using IAC for more flexible routing may work better imo.

wow Dude, this is amazing.. you should get a prize for this :-). Thanks for the great tips. As you are such a genius and you used Logic in the past: is there something like the Channel Strip settings in Studio One? I can't find it. Like a function where you can save the entire Channel setting and then recall it in a different song with the identical settings? U da man :-) PS: Please make high def videos... :-)
@audioknocker8 жыл бұрын
+Oliver K. Hitz thanks for the kind words..glad you found the tutorial useful. Yes Studio One 3 has multi-instruments which would allow you to save an entire channel (including multiple layered instruments and fx) as a preset. There's also a concept of "extended fx chains" which could be stored as a group of fx to be recalled. They are both pretty powerful features with all sorts of goodies inside however they may not be as intuitive and easy to use as the logic channel strips. Check out this video for an intro... kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3KQgHeDeZZsl9U There are some prebuilt ones available to try out in S3 already in the browser.
