Just wow man! As an MK3 user, I thank you for the Kontakt lesson! That was a crucial level up lol. I swear I learn something new every single day with Native Instruments. It's just so expansive with control options. Kontakt is surely intimidating, but well worth the effort to explore and learn. I truly enjoy watching your videos as you touch on more intermediate skill sets and navigate crucial nooks and crannies. Thanks so much for sharing your skill set and sonic explorations! Also I love your shoutouts and recommendations to the youtubers that inspire you. You've woken me up to a community of inspiration and teachers that fill my cup with motivation and a hunger for more knowledge. Loving Blezzbeats and Ave Mcree!! 👊 Cheers, thanks and big ups! My hats off to you bruv! Your video content is the breakfast of champions!

Your tutorials are always great but sometimes they kind of blow my mind. That Kontakt part kind of just blew my mind. I did not know you can do that. So we can create instruments from the expansions. And I suppose I could do that from my mini brute instead of just sampling one sound. 🤯 If you ever wanted to do a full lesson on Kontakt that would be amaze balls.

I found Kit Maker through Ave Mcree as well, it’s pretty good BUT what I hadnt considered is that many of the sounds / samples in kits aren’t just the sample hits. They’re layered effects and synth patches quite often which don’t translate over like you mention. I use it for making some random drum kits with sample packs. I have a zillion samples from over the years ( Free sample packs add up) and sometimes it’s nice to just use serendipity to create some kits.They’ve added some new features since I last used it so need to try it out again. I often sketch out my tracks in Maschine as a stand-alone and make 8-16 measure loops to sketch something out and then export stems. It’s definitely an extra few steps but it forces me to focus and make some decisions. I could open an instance of maschine in Ableton but I have more flexibility in Maschine. I tend to work with multiple kits and sounds( three sounds from one kit.five from another etc). Your tutorial is a great reminder though. I could use Battery in Ableton which I never consider any more. I also hadn’t considered using Kong or komplete Kontrol either . Many ways to skin a Kat. The quick Kontact demo was interesting. I’ve owned Kontact since NI Komplete 3 or 4 and I rarely use it. It’s never seemed user friendly to me and I’ve never been a huge fan of sampled instrument libraries (Besides drums) I know the library is a huge part of Komplete. Maybe it’s time I dive in and bite the bullet, learn how to use Kontact! Thanks for the content as always.

Must be good, if I'm watching this for a second time 😘 Putting the Expansions on an external drive is smart. How much space does is save on your internal drive? I have everything in Komplete 13 in it's default location, which makes filtering for an Expansion a little challenging. Looks like in Komplete Kontrol, you can filter by 'Bank' which lists Expansions. Why NI calls in 'Banks' inside an instrument, but 'Expansions' for marketing is confusing. Also, it looks like Kit Maker just reorganizes all the Battery samples into folders, which could help me load Battery kits into Logic's Drum Machine Designer (DMD) - or at least make that process easier. I had been surfing the web, looking for anybody who might have already mapped out Battery kits in Logic DMD, but no luck so far. Jef - this topic was very helpful and I couldn't find any YT videos that explain how to use Expansions without Maschine. Kuddo's for having such insight into the marketplace!

Hi Jef. Great video as always. You mentioned that you have all your samples loaded on an external hard drive. I recently bought a Mac Mini M1 for music production, but it only has 256 GB SSD drive. Would you mind sharing what external HD you use? You have a ton of samples and they all seem to load super fast.

I have one Lacie drive that is 7200 RPM for my samples... the others are cheap Costco drives, and they work just fine! I do all my video editing on Costco SSDs, and then transfer them onto cheap drives afterwards.

How to add customs tags for expansions' sounds, loops and kits?

Hey first off great video! I have 2 questions. I have Komplete Collectors edition. 1. Is it possible to use Komplete Kontrol the plugin without owning the keyboard? Will there be any limitations? 2. The demonstrations you displayed at 12:00 regarding loading actual sounds. As opposed to assigning those sounds to Kontakt, could I not also use battery and accomplish the same thing, which is to spread the sounds across the keyboard? Thanks!

It would be nice to have the same sampler like it is in Maschine Software in Komplete Kontrol

Great video Jef! really educational! I have a few Expansions but didn't know their full potential. Just went and another 9! I have a doubt however. If I can use the samples directly in Komplete Kontrol as a full instrument, Why would I want to drag them into a sampler? I don't understand the difference.

Can I use NI expansions in Arturia keylab mkii by any chance?
@TheBiggerNoise3 жыл бұрын
I’m not quite following your question. The key lab mk2 is a hardware MIDI controller; by itself, that’s not going to do anything with an expansion. It comes with Analog Lab, but that wouldn’t be useable with the NI expansions. You can use the samples with the (free) Komplete Kontrol.
@shonenjump93 жыл бұрын
@@TheBiggerNoise I’ll rephrase it: is there anyway to use mk2 in maschine software at least mapping the pads like am using maschine+ hardware?
@TheBiggerNoise3 жыл бұрын
@@shonenjump9 Gotcha. Q: Can you configure your MKII pads so that the Maschine software will treat them like they are the pads from a Maschine hardware unit? A: No (Mostly). The Maschine software and hardware communicate via a protocol that is outside of MIDI. I think you can sorta work around this by using the Maschine as a VST and then assigning each MKII pad to a different MIDI channel. If you have the Maschine software, you should be able to try this out. Mouse click enter a pattern, then drag the MIDI to your DAW. That should tell you what you need to map things to.

@jefgibbons Жыл бұрын
I had to watch this again to catch what you meant. Couldn't agree more that it should be easier! Only thing I'll say is that at least you can easily access the samples in the expansions. i.e. I have an Ableton expansion that is proprietary... can't use it anywhere else.
