Notice how Mark is wearing a plain black dress shirt, this could also affect the way people react to his questions. In a psychological aspect, people in black uniforms, suits, etc are usually respected, they are seen as authority figures, or are even considered intimidating. I went to college for Fine Arts and one of the things I learned is that color is very influential to reactions, thoughts, choices, etc. Certain colors grab your attention right away, ie red, blue, yellow, green... take a look at the colors used in advertisements for example. Nah definitely not fake (to be fair it’s quite obvious trimmed out the people who ignore him or didn’t give him information) but he is using some pretty interesting psychological manipulation techniques. (If you’re actually interested the REID technique has many of the components to what he’s doing, you can generally skip the rapport phase if you can avoid making the person feel threatened (which people normally do in an integration room) and no so much in the street) This is an integration technique but does give a pretty brief overview of some of the psychological tactics he’s using.

this is shocking honestly i thought most people were to themselves and in their own little bubbles and would totally either ignore him or tell him to go away....i guess California its different.
