Except that wasn't how the Maginot Line fell. In fact, Germany was unsuccessful in defeating the Maginot Line even _after_ encircling it and cutting it off from the rest of France. The only reason it fell was due to the French government's choice to surrender.
@JabberwockOclock3 жыл бұрын
@@bluntcabbage6042 The Maginot line was also designed with an intentional hole in its defense to lure a German assault into it, where their advance could be halted by reserve forces until France could fully mobilize. The problem with this strategy was that Germany's advances with tanks and the ingenuity of paratroopers allowed them to widen this hole enough that the reserves were overwhelmed. The improvements to tanks let them get through a forest that was regarded as impassable to an invasion force, while paratroopers were critical to taking over a particular Belgian fort. Thus the trap failed and it was a straight shot to Paris after that.
