Hi, art historian here! I specialise in 19th-century Victorian art history, but know a bit about some of those townhouses you mention. They used to be the city variant of any member of the nobility or gentry - where they'd have a country estate, and then a townhouse in London for when they would be in the city (fun fact many nobility could pay their way into parliament - if you were rich enough you'd get a say in politics). Then, in the 19th century - some of the neighbourhoods that now have beautiful townhouses, such as Kensington (which you see suggested at 1:03) were actually still half-farmland hamlets back then. My favourite example is the artist Frederic Leighton, who built his own studio-home in Kensington, still there, absolutely stun and that was a commissioned piece of architecture. Aka many townhouses from the 19th century were by rich men wanting to have a nice pretty home in the city, that was still all their own, so yes, most townhouses in those google photos would have been built for one person (mostly men; include the wives and potential spawn, and of course they have help and servants) Hope this was interesting to someone haha edit: the tenements you mention in Edinburgh for example, they existed in London too but they were the crappily built ones, specifically a product of rapid urbanisation and industrialisation - they were not the ones with the nice white outsides that look real grand

10:12 I couldn't stop laughing when Jesse said the For Rent pillars were perfect for the front entryway because of course it is. The Brits colonized half (I say half, but it's really the half where _I_ live) of Southeast Asia and brought their Georgian and Victorian aesthetics and sensibilities with them.

@@beep6185 That’s insensitive, everyone knows autistic people “are incapable of having meaningful (romantic) relationships /s That aside, I’m 30 next year and still unmarried. You should really make the case to them that you cannot take this anymore. A lot of medical professionals don’t empathize enough with just how much autistic period-havers suffer during periods just on “the off chance (we) might want to have kids.” It’s disgusting.

For anyone struggling with a heavy flow, I can highly recommend looking into getting an IUD. My periods haven't gone away by any means, but my flow is so much more manageable, I no longer have to get up several times at night to take care of them, I don't need to pack 4 extra pads for a normal workday. It's honestly a godsend, and it's made my life so much better!

@@Plumbellaplease look into the full affects of having an IUD, and the affects of removing an IUD!! I only say this because I, and many others, were not fully made aware of the side effects. Many doctors will dismiss the side effects because the IUD packaging does not disclose them. There’s literally lawsuits about the crash that happens when you have them removed, and now some doctors are finally starting to acknowledge some of the affects. You don’t have to read my experience, but please please please do a bunch of research. I know you have dealt with mental health issues, so please research the potential affects of having a hormonal IUD and “mirena crash”. My personal experience, no pressure to read: I had a period for 6 months straight the first time I had an IUD, and horrific pain. My periods did stop entirely after about a year. I had Mirena for 10 years (2 different ones, 5 years each) and suffered terribly with pain and depression and brain fog (I had no idea it was related). I had the second one removed and opted to go with nothing for a while, I felt amazing. I recently had Kyleena for 6 months because I needed birth control (I can’t take estrogen based birth controls like “the pill”), but going back to depression, migraines, brain fog, etc was too much. I started another endless period like the first time again for 2 months straight. I had it removed, thinking I’d just go back to normal. Oh no, I was in for a different type of hell. I’m going through the IUD crash for 3 weeks now. My anxiety is out of control, I’m having panic attacks in public again (I thought I was past that a long time ago with grounding techniques and therapy), constant nausea, some days throwing up, and intense body aches. It’s literally made me incapable of doing anything. It feels like the flu + stomach bug + panic attacks. I’m back to being scared of going out in public, when I’d previously been totally in control of my panic disorder for years. Mirena crash can last for up to 6 months or more. I don’t know how people maintain their life. On top of it all, if you feel that the IUD is causing you issues and you want it to be removed, you have to get it removed at the doctor’s office. It’s not just deciding to discontinue taking a pill. I had to go to the doctor 3 times before they agreed to remove it. I’m sure plenty of good doctors take it out any time someone requests, but it’s super common for them to deny the request because they don’t believe it’s causing any side effects. If you’re like me and kind of passive/anxious/shy, it can leave you with no option but to keep making appointments and hope they listen next time.

I used to live in Kingston, Ontario and my favourite thing was the architecture because you could see how the settlers tried to replicate the townhouses from London over here! A lot of them around Queen's University were specifically built for boarding situations, and some of the buildings close to campus proper (by the welcome building, Stauffer & Douglas libraries, etc.) have very obvious additions to the backs and sides of them to accommodate more people, more modern amenities, and so forth. I found the downtown core particularly fascinating because some of the buildings were actually expanded on the front and given new facades, and then they were sectioned off and rented so that some stores/apartments are only accessible from the alleyways! It's so neat.

Omg with the period chat, read PERIOD POWER by Maisie Hill! It completely explains how a cycle works (because school & some docs teach us a lottt of inaccurate info😅) & why we get so knackered during PCOS & then feel like ‘beyonce’ (or manic😂) 2 weeks later. She also goes into how to use your cycle to your advantage to make the most of your ‘beyonce week’ & rest more on your PMS/ period. She also goes into PCOS & endo which is all definitely worth the read!!

I totally felt your troubles there. I, too, tried to replicate a real house not too long ago. But you made it work, and it came out amazingly! 👏🏻 I built the house from Full House. It was difficult, and then on top of that was the unmatched interior layout of said house. 😂

Hello! Fellow iron issues lady here! Two things - one, I ended up getting an IUD to basically stop having a period to even out my iron. Really worked for me. So, consider this option if it is right for you. Two, if you're taking iron, it will make you feel soooo bloated. But, the iron supplements with added vitamin c make you feel far less bloated. The brand I took was vitron c and I highly recommend. Best of luck, fellow low iron friend!

What a stunning build! As a Londoner I am so excited to see people build these types of houses and I want to populate Newcrest with them :D I also think we need to talk about intimate health in general more often. I am waiting to speak to a Dr about pain I'm experiencing which it turns out could be pelvic floor dysfunction brought on by years of anxiety! But it was a chance conversation with a friend that prompted me to look into it. Also more talk about hormones and neurodiversity since I also only recently started reading about the links between menstrual cycle and menopause with executive functioning, and ADHD. Brains and bodies are wild.

For heavy periods with sensory issues, I 100% recommend period pants! Feels like normal pants and can last 12 hours, I’ve never woken up to leakage in the bed either when wearing them when with even rly thick pads I always do
