@FringeSpark The maximum thickness for soft metals (copper, brass, etc) is 24ga. Nickel silver maybe 26ga. We suggest keeping harder metals away.

We honestly have not explored other brands of dies, but some research tells us that many people are happily using Cuttlebug dies in the Big Shot. Those dies appear to be very similar to the Sizzix Texture Fades dies which handle 26ga soft metals (copper, brass, etc) with ease. So it appears "yes" on thinner metals.

@irenegiorgio The Big Kick and the Big Shot are the same machine internally. The differences are basically cosmetic because they are sold through different distribution channels.

I think it's a little less hard on your Big Shot if you used hinged dies so it's a continuous pressure verses all at one. I'm glad I found this video my boyfriend and I were just talking about metals being used in a Big Shot. Makes me think one will be in my hands very soon-lol!

What is the maximum metal thickness you can use for this (gauge)?

hinges always go first through the machine, not only one the folder, but also the platform. Also, there is one side that says it should go on the bottom (i.e. the platform). ;) This side is up in the video. Easy to overlook when you're busy explaining. :) Otherwise nice video ;) love the lighting, too.

Can you use cuttlebug embossing folders with metal pieces in this machine to emboss?
