I have to re-watch this video every time I need to pull out my speedy stitcher for something. You'd think after five times I'd remember how this worked but nope.

Great device! When you need to sew something heavy without spending a fortune, nothing else will do. Thank you! It’s a pleasure to work with a beautifully made tool that is made in the USA.

Didn't point out here that there are 2 sides of the needle -- one with a groove, the other without. When starting, thread from the side with the groove.

Good video. One part that got me was this: when I pulled back the needle after a stitch, a loop formed on the smooth (non-grooved) side of the needle. But on the backside you need to feed the end through a loop on the grooved side of the needle. The other way doesn't work and creates a tangle. After I figured this out, all went well.

Yes the grooved side is the thread feed and faces the post and hole the thread comes through. It's easy to get the needle on backwards.

Skiving tip for you guys that you may or may not know. A razor blade scraper. Like the ones used to scrape stickers off of windshields. Works great for skiving leather in a pinch. The scraper has a razor blade at a 90 degree angle to the handle.

Did it last the whole year? Are you going for year two? Did you buy a new camper?
@BrotherAlan
@BrotherAlan 2 жыл бұрын
@@bosshoss69lee yes, I got another year out of it. I was going for another year but got plain stupid and put a 4" gash in an already weakened canvas when I set it up a couple weeks ago to prep it for this season. Then I went stupid. A storm was approaching and I was set to leave the next day so in a hurry I tried to break the camper down, with "break" being the operative word here. I could not slide the trailer tonge side bed in and I could not figure out why. I pushed and pushed. Rather than stop reevaluate, go inside and look I pushed harder. It was the pole that supports the canvas. Yep, ripped it out of the ceiling. Furious at myself I took a step back and a breath and correctly did the rest. I hooked the trailer up the next morning and headed out. After 4 hour drive I arrived at the campsite and went to raise the roof. about halfway up the roof stops raising and all I hear is a click click click as the rod turns. I thought well maybe the safety is not engaging so I reseat and try and it goes up some then comes back down to the same spot, click click click. Like an idiot I keep trying this. Finally the roof is almost at the top but it needs about an inch to go so I try one more time to raise it and the whole roof comes slaming down. I ask a few people to help hold the roof up while I stuff the canvas back under the roof. Then I locked the roof down and drove 4 hours home. I still have not looked under it to see what happened.

A well-wound full spool from the factory works well, but the first time after you run out and try to wind more thread on it by hand, the irregularity causes it to jam and it will not pull through. You end up having to get thread from a separate spool.

I boought one of these years ago,and put it in the pack I carry everywhere. Its saved my probably hundreds of $$$,since I've used it to fixboots that I wouldve otherwise thrown away. I've also made tool belts out of firehose and slings for carrying firewood.

Beeswaxed thread in invaluable. It waterproofs and helps the thread through holes and tightening and holds final knot.

I had my cavas and sail repair kit/gear stolen. The first thing I replaced was the Speedysticher. I also picked up a cheap leather sewing kit from a m o z o n. That has punches, needle forks, stitch wheels, thread all for 25 bucks. Still need good sail needles from England and Germany and a good leather hand palm, but it's a start.

This is the second video I’ve seen that doesn’t show how to get the spool out of the handle. Does it screw in? Do you press it in and it pops back out? Do you turn it upside down and shake it out?
@speedystitcher3655
@speedystitcher3655 3 жыл бұрын
The spool typically just slides out of the handle. If you turn it upside down and shake it out, it should just fall out.

This demonstration is missing some very important steps. 1. You need to align the groove in the needle with the groove in the needle holder. 2. Place the thread in the groove when threading the thread into the needle 3. And very important! You have to pass the bottom thread through the loop from the right side (in the direction from the previous stitch to the next stitch) - and in any case you have to be careful not to accidentally wrap the thread around the needle , otherwise you will end up in a mess, so always keep the thread on the side from the previous stitch.

I have wasted an hour or more of my life on this thing. I pass the needle through and get the thread on the back side. I pull out and push the needle in for the first stich. I pass the thread through the loop created on the back side. I draw the needle out and end up with three threads. The thread coming off the post is in the fabric and the thread on either side of needle is in the fabric. In the last hour I have had ONE successful stitch. This stitch was created doing nothing different than all other attempts and upon attempting the second once again yielded three threads and I had to snap the thread and start over. I am seconds from throwing this thing in the trash...
