I use it too as drum monitor, it's so confortable !! To gain some time, I've setted up one kit for each song. Just need to press + button after each song, the tempo is programmed and I'm sure there will be no mistake !

I was literally thinking about this scenario the other day with a friend. I’m building an IEM/Split Rack that our band can bring to venues and don’t want to deal with the hassle of splitting all the drum mics. This is also a life saver for any of your other bandmates using IEMs cause they could get a nice stereo drum feed/bus and not have to worry about dealing with more than 2 drum channels in their own IEM mix. Great video!

If u run stereo out from a mixer into the B input on the EAD, it uses all the microphones connected to your mixer for the EAD.
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 24 күн бұрын
You also risk frying the output stage of the mixer as the EAD uses non standard phantom power through input B to power the sensor.

I love it ! Playing around with positions i got great sounds. Having the Mic/Trigger right in the middle of the Bass Drum it was very bsss drum heavy. Moved it toward the nearest bass drum lug towards the right and the sound came alive.....not in the middle like suggested ! Even not pushing the mic right up againstthe hoop was very balancedin sound. 👌 If i can help anyone just ask no problems.

@@edruminfo sorry mate, I have another cuestion,, I want to use the EAD10 to replace the microphones and record a drum track using the AUX IN as a monitor as you have put it in the diagram. I take the signal from the EAD10 through the L R output to the desk and from there to the DAW (reaper), the problem is that the AUX IN signal gets into the recording .... is there any way to avoid this? i only want the signal from the drum kit and the BD trigger..... in other words... you can use the EAD10 as a monitor and as a mic system at the same time???????????? Thx !!!
@edruminfo

@@nolopyllo1746 In this video I'm not sending the EAD to the PA or a recorder, so it doesn't matter if the Aux In can be heard. You can not take the Aux In out of the master outputs. What you need to do is monitor from the desk. Connect the computer output to the desk and monitor from there. Then you'll hear the EAD, and the track but only the EAD will be recorded.
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 3 ай бұрын
@@nolopyllo1746 Anything plugged into the Aux In will also be sent to the main outputs so you cant use it for monitoring at the same time as mic'ing without using a separate mini mixer. Mount the EAD on the kit and send the outs to FOH. Get them to send back your monitor mix with the EAD mixed in and that will work but obviously your mix will rely on the FOH engineer being on top of things.

Awesome video. Thank you for putting it together. For the click, are you manually changing the tempo between each song? I saw that there’s a way to tie different tempos to a scene, but I’m not sure how that would work if staying on a single scene like you’re doing here. Ideally it would be nice if there was a “setlist” feature like I have on my Roland TD-27 electric kit module. Thanks!
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 2 ай бұрын
Hi. For this gig I did just stay on one Scene and manually change the tempo. However, if there wasn't time to do that, I would just duplicate the one Scene (as many times as tracks we were playing), name each one the same as each track, and then save the click tempo for each one and drag them into set order using the Sort function. You can assign a pad or a foot switch to cycle through Scenes so I'd just have to hit a pad or hit a foot switch to change click tempo.

Hi Simon, thanks a lot for this Video! I‘ve had my EAD 10 for a couple of days now and took it to an audition/rehearsal today. Thanks to your tips this was a great monitoring solution. I used it exactly like you did. Especially the idea to put an adjustable headphone amp between the band feed and the module was golden. Do you know wether the firmware is still being improved? I loaded a 2bar percussion loop into the module and put the triggering into hold mode. Unfortunately the wave file didn‘t loop seemlessly, there was a short gap before the loop started again. A loop function like in the DMX12 or Roland SPD-SX would be handy. Thanks again!
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 4 ай бұрын
No problem at all. I would suggest you have a look at that loop, as it does loop seamlessly so not sure where the problem is. Was the loop originally an MP3 by any chance? That could explain it.

@@edruminfoThanks for the fast answer! I created the loop in Reaper from a percussion vst and exported it as 16bit, 44.1 wave file. In Reaper it looped seemlessly. But I look into this again. Good to know, that the EAD can loop seemlessly.

It would sound like a Traps kit but louder I guess. Traps kits dont project very far so I'm guessing the floor tom would be quite quiet but everything else should be OK. At least the bass drum has a steel hoop so you could use a Ddrum Redshot trigger for that, but how you'd mount the Sensor Unit on the bass drum would take a little more thought.

Great video again, thanks! One question: how and where can you separately control the band volume in the monitor mix from the drum throne?
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 7 ай бұрын
Thanks Richard. In the video, the band are coming in on the XLR provided by FOH. I've got that going through a passive headphone mixer, and I can adjust the volume of the band by turning the volume control of that up or down. To get the mix correct, you have to balance the monitor feed, with the click, with the kit, which takes a couple of minutes, but once its done its pretty quick to nudge volumes up or down as required.

Really appreciate the info, Simon. Something I was wondering while watching: with this live setup, could you also use the EAD10 to send backing tracks to both headphones and FOH, in such a way that the BT level can be adjusted separately from the click and band mix? It would be such a game changer if possible!

Love how you explain everything perfectly! However I still have a question. If I want to use my EAD10 just like you for monitoring myself, but I have to play to a clicktrack (coming from a laptop for example), would I still need my own mixer to run the EAD 10 + Click/tracks separated and plug my headphone to the mixer, or is there an easier way? I need to send the split track to FOH so I am guessing I still need my own little mixer. Thank you!
@edruminfo

It will feedback - the microphones in the EAD Sensor will pick up the monitor - that's physics. This is an advantage of IEM - they lower the stage volume (no drum monitor) and much less likely to feedback unless you have them incredibly loud.

Thanks for posting about the EAD10. Your videos are helpful for a newbie like me. I have a question. I have my EAD connected to an Avid MBOX Studio Interface by using the 1/4” L/R EAD Outputs to the 1/4” 5/6 Line Inputs on my MBOX. Does the EAD Outputs require pre amp mic inputs on the interface? Thank you again!
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 7 ай бұрын
Hi. A few things here. No, it doesn't need mic inputs as the (mic) signal is already being processed in the EAD and the outputs are jack plugs (normal), not XLR (the 3 pin connectors found on the bottom of microphones). But also, you don't need to connect the EAD via an audio interface - it has one built in so just connect the EAD to your computer with a USB cable and find the EAD as an audio interface. Much simpler.

I don't quite get what you mean. Yes, you can use this to mic the whole kit. Yes, you can send it to the FOH mixer. Yes, you can listen to yourself as a monitor at the same time. You cant directly with the EAD as the Aux In is wired directly to the outputs. You will need to use a mini mixer and take your monitor feed and combine it with the headphone output of the EAD (sent at a very low level so it does not distort). Not quite. When you put the knob into Data mode it actually changes ANYTHING on the screen so if the Scenes are on there, it will change Scene. If you have the tempo on the screen, it will change that. It will just change whatever is on the screen, not JUST the Scene. Try it - you'll see. Its actually must better as a default position that the knob just changing the Scene.
