Who else would love to see a standalone version of the mic that attaches to the bass drum, so that you could record that directly into a computer, so people can still use it to record without the need of the expensive controller?
@Slay-Man2 жыл бұрын
I know I'm kinda late but you can use Zoom H series as a stereo mic. H4n has a stereo mic and 2 xlr combo input if you want to connect more cables. You can connect to your pc via Usb cable and use it as and audio inteface. And it's half the price of an EAD.

I recommend blending it with your mic setup. The EAD has a great mid range punchiness and dirt to it, compared to the clean sound you are getting from your mics. Blending the EAD signal in with your mic setup would give a thicker sound overall and I know that's how I would use it.
@konradkarolczyk9138 Жыл бұрын
There's no phase/latency issue if you blend with live microphones?
@timpo9238 Жыл бұрын
@@konradkarolczyk9138All mics that are a different distance from the source will always have a different phase. This may not always be a problem but in this case you should probably time align the mics with delay. If you are working in post you can time align the drums acording to the close mics. If working live you obviously can't add negative delay so just delay everything to the farthest away source (room/overhead). In most cases you shouldn't time align the rooms, because it's there for the ambance and ads mostly nice phasines but you can experiment with this.
@Kaedes81406 жыл бұрын
I tried it myself, its pretty decent if you're recording for a demo or a pre-prod. For metal drummers out there, the trigger sucks for double bass. Altough, u can plug an extra one for the bass drum and mix it with the ead 10 trigger and it works perfectly !

Late to the party here, but am I the only one who actually preffered the EAD10 audio over the standard mics? I'm admittedly a bit of a minimalist, old-school dude, but the drums just sounded so much more alive to me. I like the fact that this thing will kinda make you work to actually tune your drums, which is a lost art these days.

I picked up one of these when it first came out. I really wanted to use it like an effects pedal for drums. It was fun to mess around with, but a pain in the butt in a live setting. It caused feedback and sound engineers couldn't figure out how to mix it. If I wanted to use it to run triggers... that is another $200-300. Now I am in $800 or more... I might as well find a used Roland kit for that cost. I ended up returning it.

I think EAD is worth if you want to record on a budget, and if you need some triggers for your metal band. Two uses in one. The fact that they also make the app with IOS that can sync music and video automatically, also loop sections of the songs,slow down or make the song audio faster without effecting the pitch of the song. I think YAMAHA have built a great products for multiple use. I'm save up and buy it.
@kryptoniterazor6 жыл бұрын
Very cool device. I don't think I've seen any hardware that explicitly combines electronic and acoustic signals before, but obviously studio engineers have been doing that on drums for decades so it's about time we caught up. It seems like it'd be a good for gigs where bringing a ton of extra mics and cables and stands is a pain and you can't always get your placements dialed in. The cymbal sounds are noticeably less bright because of the placement of the mics, so maybe just pairing it with a mono or stereo overhead would get you the best of both worlds if you filter out the lows/mids to avoid phasing issues. Might even be good to have 2 XLR jacks on the EAD so you could blend the signals.

I'm sold. That's a badass unit, would fit right at home in a home recording studio environment and/or a band rehearsal space. I like its features... I'm a huge fan of Compression in the drum mix, and this unit has it. I'm also a huge fan of the incredible Yamaha RX5 drum machine, and this unit has that sound! Reverbs, and a mad gang of effects galore... this unit has all that, And TRIGGERS! If you put that EAD10 in front of me you'd have to put a gun to my head to pry me away from the traditional Mic recording standards to get me to use the EAD10 instead; because I'm always learning about studio mic recording methods, and along comes this EAD10 to make me wanna forget everything I've been learning about drum mic setups and recording, and so forth. Would I buy the EAD10? Yes. It makes life easier setting up to record drum play-throughs for KZbin and instructional videos to share with fans and friends... And, the EAD10 is great for recording the drums to your smartphone or iPad. High Fives!

As a live sound tech i'll give it a 9... I wish there could be a firmware update so both Drummers & Sound Tech could bring the EAD10 some interesting uses... Uses like - recording both AUX & ESD sound on the USB - Individual volume & EQ Mics settings to have a more controlled sound on the mixer or headphones... I'll post a link using the EAD10 DRUM RECORDED TRACK with my GOPRO ambience sound during a gig... Obviously the drums will be clearer due to the track from the EAD10 - NO SETTINGS ON THE EAD10 - NO TRIGGERS - NO EFX - NO REVERB - JUST THE NATURAL SOUND OF MY DRUM KIT... Just don’t put your ride cymbal anywhere NEAR this thing. If you have a bass drum mounted 2 up and 1 down setup like this it’s probably fine. A 1 up and 1 down setup with rid in between, no bueno. ALL you’re gonna hear is that ride cymbal. Same issue if you have an offset tom setup.

I think these are fun and indeed a professional tool; I predict we'll be seeing a bunch of these on the resale market in about 4-6 months. If you want a great practice tool; play 2 up toms (thus your ride is already higher and to the right); have quality isolated earphones; and don't really expect (or desire) to take this to live shows - then you will really find this product amazing. A++; If you don't use that extra tom and have to (weirdly) move your ride cymbal over (the score will drop to a B+). Don't have great headphones (C+). Really think it will work amazingly live w/o additional mics (C) or find that it is hard to get band and drums in your live mix because there isn't an Aux IN then (C- or D+).

@matt_pick Жыл бұрын
What's it like with dynamic ranges? I've heard that's the main downside to triggers and electronic drums, doesn't give the same authentic feel and can sound sightly fake and programmed. Doesn't always catch the same variety of tones as an acoustic setup. I'd be interested to know how this handles a wider dynamic range.
@harrisonstaley77426 жыл бұрын
Can see this being useful in a live context. Record samples of your kick and snare at home with a decent mic, then use the ead to trigger the samples live. Cut down on the channels needed in the desk, do your own mixing.

How would I use it? Hmmm. I think I would use it to add a bit of definition and fat to my toms. Perhaps a bit of sub content to my kick. That's it. By the way, in your video where 'EAD Audio' appears in the lower right corner (like at 12:32) how is the EAD10 picking up the full mix including cymbals?
