The Green Water Machine is a one gallon jar kit that comes with everything you need to make your own live green water. I’m using “Green Water” as an umbrella term for a living culture primarily consisting of multiple species of single cell algae and other infusoria. What algae specie is in the kits? I was also interested in if you have tried various algae culture types vs daphnia long term success? Here's a list of algae species commonly used to feed Daphnia: 1. Chlorella vulgaris 2. Scenedesmus obliquus 3. Ankistrodesmus falcatus 4. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii 5. Nannochloropsis sp. 6. Tetraselmis sp. 7. Isochrysis galbana 8. Dunaliella tertiolecta 9. Phaeodactylum tricornutum 10. Spirulina platensis

For search engine optimization, I think that you should add the keyword "bioreactor" to your website (and I suppose your KZbin videos too) as this is the scientific term for these devices. I know that it's probably a trade secret but if the nutrient you sell is the commonly used one in lab settings (the "/2" one) then you might be interested to know that one study found a much better nutrient for chlorella growth in a paper titled: "A Low-Cost Fertilizer Medium Supplemented with Urea for the Lutein Production of Chlorella sp. and the Ability of the Lutein to Protect Cells against Blue Light Irradiation" Will add the doi of the study in a reply below for ease of access because the link might not make it through the filter and I don't want this comment to vanish.

I love this! Thanks for making it so accessible. You did all the hard work and now we just have to get a starter and can potentially keep it indefinitely with a little fertilizer/nutrient. I'm just getting started with daphnia and wanted to avoid all the powders and the like.

I just ordered both Daphnia and a few other things but I'm kinda wishing I bought the green water also. I have a few buckets made with the scuds I also purchased from you a few months ago and they are thriving Tony. But know I'm seeing your green water cultures I should of bought that as well,, my 5 gallon bucket has been going for 2 months and the water is definitely green. But I have 2 other 5 gallon buckets going that I have the light on 12-14, hours a day it might take a little while to turn green. Anyways I love the videos and this one is gonna be good and it will give me pointers on getting green water. Tony you definitely do live cultures great man I enjoy your videos and I enjoy getting those live critters from you oh and my fish love it as well 😀

Which is better at eating biofilm? Shrimp or scuds?

I made some green water with the same principles in a 5 gallon bucket, added daphnia and all died. They are kept "outside" under a clear polycarbonate ceiling. The water was dark green like yours, it was made by adding plant based fertilizer but no salt. I don't know what could have possibly killed them, I thought it was going to be great for them... I got some pictures of the green water. Some people say "don't add too much food" could that be the cause? Can you help understand what went wrong? Thanks a lot
